Mets superstar slugger wins impressive monthly award
Just a few months ago, New York Mets fans were restless, and Juan Soto stood at the center of the storm. The $765 million man wasn't struggling per se, but he wasn't lighting it up either. Expectations, however, were sky-high. Mets fans didn't want average. They wanted fireworks—Soto in full-blown MVP mode—and they weren't getting that early on. The murmurs started. Was he worth the record-breaking deal? Was the real Soto left behind in the Bronx? A portion of fans even booed, frustrated at the slow burn. But others stayed patient, trusting the process. That patience has paid off, and then some. Juan Soto didn't just bounce back—he exploded. NL Player of the Month — and It Wasn't Even Close Soto scorched opposing pitchers throughout June, earning the National League Player of the Month honors. He was simply unstoppable. He batted .322 for the month, hammered 11 home runs, scored 25 runs, and drove in 20. That's elite by any measure. His OPS for June? A jaw-dropping 1.196. The ball didn't just leave his bat—it left a vapor trail. Soto didn't just return to form. He blew past it, reminding everyone why he's considered a generational bat. It's not just the numbers, either. His presence at the plate shifted entire gameplans. Pitchers tread carefully, and still, he punished mistakes. A Superstar Settles In and Finds His Swing What Soto needed was time—time to settle into a new team, a new city, and a new dugout vibe. Every team has its own rhythm, and Soto had to find the Mets' beat before syncing his swing to it. He's not just producing now—he's thriving. And that level of comfort is turning into production the Mets desperately need. With 20 home runs and 10 stolen bases so far, Soto's stat line is steadily morphing into something special. A .500 slugging percentage, a 152 wRC+, and 2.4 fWAR show his all-around value. He's not just hot—he's elite. The Bat Speaks Loudest — Even When the Glove Struggles Soto's defense in 2025 has been underwhelming. That's no secret. The numbers are not kind. But when a player delivers like this at the plate, you can forgive the occasional missed read or awkward route. Soto's bat is covering for his glove right now, and frankly, the Mets aren't complaining. Neither should fans. In a lineup that's still searching for consistency, Soto's thunderous June was like striking gold in a drought. He's stepped up in moments that mattered—two-out rallies, late-inning bombs, and tone-setting first-inning lasers. A Beacon in a Rough Month for the Mets June wasn't a kind month for the Mets overall. The team staggered through rough stretches and tough losses. But Soto stood tall amid the chaos. If anything, he was the lighthouse guiding the ship through turbulent waters. When the offense went quiet, Soto refused to. His bat became the constant in a lineup desperate for one. And that's what stars do. They shine brightest when the sky darkens. Soto didn't just meet expectations—he redefined them. The Mets may not have soared in June, but Soto did—and that surge could anchor a second-half resurgence. The Weight of Expectations and the Payoff of Patience There's a lesson here, too. Talent doesn't always explode instantly. Even greatness can take time to settle and ignite. Like a luxury car needing the right fuel mix, Soto required the right mix of comfort, rhythm, and timing. Now that he's found it, he's tearing up the road—and dragging the Mets along for the ride. Juan Soto was never the problem. He was just warming up. And now that he's hot, the entire league should be on alert. Three-run fifth inning carries Mets to win over Angels
July 23 - Francisco Alvarez hit a game-tying two-run homer in the fifth inning and Brandon Nimmo delivered an RBI single two batters later as the host New York Mets earned another comeback win, edging the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 on Tuesday. The Mets have won three straight, all in come-from-behind fashion, and they will shoot for a sweep of the three-game interleague series on Wednesday. The Angels lost for the third time in four games. Los Angeles' Jorge Soler homered in the second inning off Frankie Montas (3-1). Nolan Schanuel's RBI double down the first base line in the fifth gave the Angels a 2-0 lead before the Mets mounted a two-out rally against Kyle Hendricks (5-7) in the bottom of the frame. Brett Baty doubled and Alvarez, playing his second game since being promoted from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday, followed seven pitches later with a homer to left. It was Alvarez's fourth round-tripper of the season and first at home. Ronny Mauricio singled on Hendricks' next pitch, stole second and scored on Nimmo's hit. The rally put Montas in line for the win. The right-hander, who made his fifth start after missing most of the first half due to a lat injury, gave up the two runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out six over 5 2/3 innings. New York relievers Rico Garcia and Reed Garrett combined for 2 1/3 innings of one-hit ball. Ryne Stanek gave up singles to Logan O'Hoppe and Schanuel in the ninth before closing out his third save -- and his second in the past three games -- by getting Mike Trout to pop out to first baseman Pete Alonso. Schanuel finished with a career-high four hits. He entered Tuesday with 17 three-hit games. O'Hoppe went 3-for-4 while Luis Rengifo, batting behind O'Hoppe in the ninth spot, finished 2-for-5. Hendricks allowed the three runs on five hits and one walk while striking out two in 4 2/3 innings. He retired 13 of the first 15 batters he faced before Baty's double. --Field Level Media

Alvarez's Homer Helps Mets Come Back to Beat Angels Again, 3-2
NEW YORK (AP) – Francisco Alvarez hit a tying homer in his second game back from the minors, and Ryne Stanek retired Mike Trout with two runners aboard for the final out as the New York Mets rallied to beat the Los Angeles Angels 3-2 on Tuesday night. Brandon Nimmo capped a three-run fifth inning with a go-ahead single, and Frankie Montas (3-1) won his third straight start. Juan Soto threw out a runner at home plate from right field in the first, denying Trout his 999th career RBI. After overcoming a four-run deficit in Monday night's series opener, New York won its third in a row. Nolan Schanuel had a career-high four hits for the Angels, including an RBI double. Jorge Soler launched a solo homer, and Logan O'Hoppe finished with three hits. Angels starter Kyle Hendricks (5-7) allowed only a pop-fly single through 4 2/3 innings before unraveling as the Mets banged out four consecutive hits. Brett Baty doubled before Alvarez connected for his fourth homer this season and first at Citi Field. Ronny Mauricio singled, stole second, and scored on Nimmo's single to give New York a 3-2 lead. Rico Garcia and Reed Garrett combined for 2 1/3 scoreless innings in relief before Stanek worked the ninth for his third save. With star closer Edwin Díaz receiving a rest, Stanek got Trout on a weak popup to first base to end it. Montas settled in after a rocky start and walked off the mound to a warm ovation after 5 2/3 innings. He permitted two runs and eight hits, striking out six. Key moment: After a run-scoring double by Schanuel put the Angels ahead 2-0 in the fifth, they had runners at second and third with one out. Montas whiffed Trout, walked cleanup hitter Taylor Ward to load the bases, and retired Jo Adell on a deep fly to center, ending the inning. Key stats: Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor went 0 for 4 with two strikeouts and is hitless in his last 30 at-bats – the longest drought of his career. He went 0 for 27 late in the 2016 season with Cleveland. ... Soto set a career high with his 13th stolen base. Up next: Mets LHP Sean Manaea (0-1 2.45 ERA) pitches in a Wednesday matinee. Los Angeles had not announced a scheduled starter and might go with a bullpen game.
