Online vigilantes turn tables on scammers who victimize the elderly
(NewsNation) — Los Angeles-based Trilogy Media is trying to unravel complicated global scams that target vulnerable people, including the elderly, and sometimes the self-styled internet vigilantes are even able to turn the tables on fraudsters. 'These scammers are becoming so prolific and so successful. They are really good at making several different layers of separation between themselves and the victim,' co-founder Ashton Bingham tells 'CUOMO.' With its online content, Trilogy Media primarily educates the public about how some of these elaborate scams work by coaxing victims to part with information or money. Bingham and co-founder Art Kulik say bringing the perpetrators to justice is challenging because of jurisdictional issues. More than $35,000 recovered in stolen Bitcoin scam for Ohio woman 'Domestic law enforcement will say, 'Well, they're out of the country, we can't do anything,' but then foreign law enforcement will say, 'The victim is in the United States, so we can't do anything,'' Bingham said. In certain instances, Trilogy Media has been able to find people in the U.S. who are working with the scammers overseas. 'You can talk to us, or we can report it to police,' Bingham tells a suspect in one episode. Internationally, scammers are believed to siphon $1 trillion annually from victims. How long does it take weight loss drugs to work?
(NewsNation) — Weight loss medications like Ozempic and Wegovy have become increasingly popular over the past few years. For those who are looking into using a weight loss drug, how fast they work often comes into question. While the timeline for noticeable changes varies from person to person, people have often noticed changes in their appetite and weight within the first few weeks of use. According to the Mayo Clinic, most weight loss occurs within the first four to five months of use. Long-term use of weight loss drugs can lead to sustained weight loss and improvements in overall metabolic health but must be paired with healthy eating and exercise. HHS cancels funding for Moderna vaccines to fight pandemic flu There are a few factors that can contribute to how quickly weight loss drugs can work for each individual, like metabolism and following the treatment plan. People with a higher metabolism are more likely to see results faster from weight loss drugs compared to those with a lower metabolic rate. Lifestyle factors like dietary habits, exercise routines, adequate sleep and stress management also play a role in the speed at which weight loss drugs work. Since the drugs can suppress your appetite, it can be challenging to get proper nutrition and possibly lead to side effects. Doctors say to manage any side effects, you should follow a nutritionally balanced diet and drink enough fluids. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Homesellers now outnumber buyers by half a million: Redfin
(NewsNation) — After years of rising prices and limited inventory, the housing market is undergoing a major shift: Sellers now far outnumber buyers. As of April, the U.S. housing market had nearly 500,000 more sellers than buyers — the largest seller surplus on record, according to a new Redfin estimate. Aside from the start of the pandemic in April 2020, homebuyers haven't been this scarce since at least 2013, the earliest year for which Redfin has data. As recently as February 2024, the number of buyers and sellers was roughly balanced, but the gap has steadily widened over the past year. Redfin now expects home prices to drop 1% by the end of 2025. The online real estate brokerage highlighted three factors tilting the balance of power toward buyers: recent economic uncertainty, high home prices and a mortgage rate lock-in effect that is beginning to ease. The new dynamics have given potential homebuyers more negotiating power than they've had in years, but so far, sellers have been slow to react. 'A lot of sellers have yet to see or accept the writing on the wall,' Redfin Senior Economist Asad Khan said in a statement. 'Many are still holding out hope that their home is the exception and will fetch top dollar.' Florida sellers are feeling the most pressure in today's market, with the state home to six of the top 10 buyer's markets, according to Redfin. In cities like Miami, West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale, sellers outnumbered buyers roughly 3 to 1 in April. The Sunshine State's housing market has been cooling for the past year, partly due to a homebuilding boom but also because of natural disaster concerns and rising homeowner insurance costs. Skyrocketing HOA fees haven't helped either, and buyers are souring on condos especially fast. Nationally, 31 of the top 50 metros are now considered 'buyer's markets,' per Redfin, meaning potentially lower home prices as sellers compete for buyers. Those buyer-friendly markets are heavily concentrated in the Sun Belt and on the West Coast. Elsewhere, particularly in the Midwest and Northeast, sellers still hold the power. In April, buyers outnumbered sellers by almost 2 to 1 in Newark, New Jersey, making it the top seller's market. Nassau County, New York, and Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, also heavily favored sellers. The housing market is considered balanced in St. Louis, Virginia Beach and Kansas City, where the number of buyers and sellers is relatively equal. Despite the recent shift toward buyers, homeownership is likely to remain out of reach for millions of Americans. Wages haven't kept up with rising home prices, and the supply of affordable homes remains well short of demand. In March, just 21.2% of home listings were affordable for buyers earning between $75,000 and $100,000 a year, according to a recent analysis by the National Association of Realtors (NAR). 'Without a significant boost in housing inventory at price points below $260,000, the path to homeownership will remain blocked for millions of Americans,' the NAR report said. The average rate on a 30-year fixed mortgage rose to 6.89% this week, the highest level since early February, according to Freddie Mac. How much unemployment will I get if I make $1K a week?
(NewsNation) — Unemployment benefits provide temporary help to those who are fired for no reason or forced to quit their job. But how much can you receive in unemployment benefits? How much you can receive in benefits will depend on how much you made at your previous job as well as what state you live in. To qualify, you will need to contact state officials so they can examine your past wages, your reason for being unemployed and your availability for work. Homesellers now outnumber buyers by half a million: Redfin Overall, employees with a higher wage would receive a higher benefits check, but it is still just a percentage of what was earned previously. Certain states also offer additional benefits to individuals with dependents. This will all depend on what state you live in. Other factors that would go into calculating your benefits check include your income and recent work history. When to expect your Social Security benefits for June However, here's what you could expect in some states: Michigan: $362 each week for up to 20 weeks. Texas: $520 each week for up to 26 weeks. Florida: $275 each week for up to 12 weeks. Washington: $1,014 each week for up to 26 weeks. California: $450 each week for up to 26 weeks. New York: $504 each week for up to 26 weeks. Georgia: $365 each week for up to 26 weeks. If you want to calculate your weekly benefits amount yourself instead of using an online calculator, you must: Figure out what your base period is for calculating benefits (in most states, this is a one-year period). Examine the base period and identify the time when you received the highest pay. Find the highest quarter (three-month period) earnings with a calculator. Figure out what your weekly benefits would be if you got another job. Calculate your benefits for every week if the partial before-tax (gross) income differs. It is important to note that any benefits you receive are taxable. It is recommended that you set aside at least 10% of each benefits check for taxes. If you start working temporarily, you will need to report this to the state so that your unemployment benefits can be adjusted accordingly. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Chris Cuomo EXPLODES as viewer slaps him with stinging label
Former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo launched into a furious tirade at a viewer who accused him of suffering from 'Trump Derangement Syndrome.' Responding to comments on his YouTube show, The Chris Cuomo Project, the 54-year-old NewsNation host - who has previously discussed topics like aliens and UFOs - lashed out after one viewer wrote, 'Stick to aliens. Your TDS clouds your political vision.' 'You don't have any political vision, okay?' Cuomo fired back. 'You are the one suffering from myopia. Look that up.' Myopia, commonly known as nearsightedness, is a refractive error where distant objects appear blurry while close ones are clear. 'You are the one who can't get out of your own way. You have Trump Derangement Syndrome. I don't,' Cuomo continued. He then claimed to have predicted both of Donald Trump 's presidential wins. 'I called his first win. I called his second win,' he said. 'I don't necessarily like that he's what America is choosing, but I understand it.' Cuomo went on to insult the commenter directly: 'You don't, because you just see him as giving you this power that your lowly, stupid ass would never have otherwise. I think we can do better than that.' He added, 'I'm not running for office. I have to be fair. And I don't believe people like you should be judged the same way Trump is. There are a lot of people who are desperate for the right reasons - it's sad, it's unfortunate, and we should do better. 'I'm open to that. I am fair, despite the fact that I have to deal with assholes like you on a regular basis. If this were about my personal life, I might make different choices. But this is what I signed up for, so I will engage you.' Cuomo wrapped up by clarifying his views on extraterrestrial topics: 'And I don't give a shit about aliens. I don't believe in little green men. I don't believe in alien spacecraft.' The ex-CNN anchor's diatribe comes just weeks after he revealed that his bromance with his former co-star Don Lemon was just for show and that the pair now loathe one another. The now-fired duo regularly gushed about each other on-air as Cuomo handed over to Lemon, hosted The Handoff podcast and went on tour together. But, Cuomo has now said the friendship was never real - telling Patrick Bet-David's Home Team podcast their banter was actually the idea of former CNN boss Jeff Zucker, who had concerns about how Lemon would open his show. According to Cuomo, Zucker basically told him he had to 'stay over on Lemon's show to help mitigate whatever's going to come out of his mouth.' Cuomo has previously said that his relationship with Lemon fell apart when he was fired in 2021 over advising his brother, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, as he went through a sexual harassment scandal. The journalist said Lemon did not have his back and never reached out to him after his CNN termination. Cuomo has now sniped that Lemon's stature at the network was boosted by his relationship with Zucker. 'Zucker's best friend is Don Lemon's best friend - who's his agent - so, they had a real bond,' Cuomo claimed. Cuomo, now an anchor on NewsNation, emphasized that there is no love lost when asked whether he would do another podcast with Lemon.
