Woman in neighbouring apartment wounded in ‘unintentional' shooting in St. Catharines, police say

A Niagara region police cruiser can be seen above. (Wikipedia Commons) Police have arrested and charged two people from St. Catharines in connection with what they say was the 'unintentional' shooting of a female in a neighbouring apartment. Officers from Niagara Regional Police Service responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Ontario Street and St. Paul Street at around 12:20 p.m. on July 11. One female was subsequently located with a gunshot wound and transferred to an out of region hospital by the emergency crews, a press release says. Officers determined that she had been unintentionally shot by individuals in a neighbouring apartment, which was then contained for an investigation, police say. Andre Smith, 38 and Anikkita Beckford-Stone, 20, were arrested and charged shortly after. A firearm was recovered when officers executed a search warrant on the accused's apartment the next day, police say. Smith was charged with six firearm-related offences and one count of aggravated assault. Beckford-Stone was charged with five firearm-related offences and one count of aggravated assault. Both the accused were remanded in custody after a bail hearing on July 12. The charges have not been tested in court. Police are still investigating. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Man allegedly selling stolen trailers on Facebook Marketplace wanted by Niagara police

A Niagara Regional Police officer is seen in an undated file photo. (The Canadian Press/Francis Vachon) Niagara police are searching for a man they say is selling stolen utility trailers on Facebook Marketplace. Police say in June, two utility trailers were stolen from a local business in Welland, Ont. Investigators now allege 35-year-old Jeremy Boyer is selling the stolen trailers for prices 'significantly below market value' to unsuspecting buyers on Facebook Marketplace. They say he uses the alias 'Jeremy Troy.' One of the stolen trailers was recovered in St. Catharines, but the second one has yet to be found. Police describe it as a black, 2022 Norstar dump trailer with the decal 'Plaza Tenders' on both sides. In a release on Friday, Niagara police issued an arrested warrant for Boyer. He is wanted for several charges including theft over $5,000, possession of stolen property, failing to comply with both a release order and probation, among others. The release said Boyer is also wanted by Niagara police on a separate warrant for a different criminal matter relating to the Facebook Marketplace ads. 'Detectives remind members of the public to exercise caution when purchasing used trailers,' police said in the release. 'Buyers should verify that the seller has valid registration and proof of ownership before completing any transaction.' Anyone who has purchased a trailer from Boyer, or who knows his whereabouts, is asked to contact detectives at 905-688-4111, ext. 1009215.

Motorcycle driver and passenger seriously injured in crash in Lincoln

A Niagara region police cruiser can be seen above. (Wikipedia Commons) Niagara police are investigating after the driver and passenger of a motorcycle were seriously injured in a crash in Lincoln on the weekend. Police say just after 8 p.m. on June 29, a white, 2022 Hyundai Tucson and another vehicle with an unknown make and model were both travelling westbound on the North Service Road in the area of Bartlett Road North. The driver of the Tucson, a 22-year-old male, collided with an oncoming black, 2020 Harley-Davidson motorcycle and then 'left the roadway and came to rest in a nearby field,' say police. Police say the other vehicle left the scene and continued driving toward Hamilton. Neither the vehicle nor the driver have been identified yet. The 41-year-old male driver of the motorcycle and his 46-year-old female passenger both sustained life-threatening injuries and were rushed to an out-of-town hospital. 'Police are appealing to the driver of the other vehicle, as well as any witnesses or area residents with surveillance, dashcam, or other relevant footage, to come forward,' Niagara police said in a release on Monday. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 905-688-4111, option 3, ext. 1009089, or by calling Crime Stoppers anonymously.
