MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Set Video and Photos Reveal Camila Mendes Suited-Up as Teela — GeekTyrant

Things are heating up on the set of Masters of the Universe , and thanks to some fresh footage out of London, fans are finally getting a peek at Camila Mendes in full Teela mode. The Riverdale star was spotted filming a few action-heavy scenes alongside Nicholas Galitzine, who's wielding the iconic Power Sword as Prince Adam. It looks like we're getting a version of the story where Teela comes to Earth to track down a memory-wiped Adam and pull him back to Eternia, where destiny awaits him in full He-Man glory. Teela has been a central figure in the Masters of the Universe franchise, often portrayed as both Prince Adam's protector and He-Man's most trusted ally (and, sometimes, love interest). In this new take, she's still the daughter of Duncan, a.k.a. Man-At-Arms, played here by Idris Elba. Fans of the franchise will remember Chelsea Field's turn as Teela in the 1987 film, and Sarah Michelle Gellar's voice work in Masters of the Universe: Revelation until the mic was passed to Melissa Benoist for Season 2. Mendes now picks up the torch in this big-screen reboot, and her look seems to strike a balance between tradition and reinvention. Her outfit nods to the classic white-and-gold palette of the original animated series, but adds some modern armor-style flourishes. I want to be excited about this movie, but the fact that the creative team once again set it on Earth is so disappointing. A behind the scenes look at the film was shared at Cinema-Con, and it teased the tone, look, and scale director Travis Knight is going for. The movie looks like its aiming to be the definitive live-action take on the franchise and it was enough to stir up excitement, especially for longtime fans of the franchise. The film is said to introduce Adam as an ordinary man, working "a boring office job" in the 'real world.' The Masters of the Universe stories are merely tales Adam heard as a little kid. The leaked synopsis reads: '10-year-old Prince Adam who crashed to Earth in a spaceship and was separated from his magical Power Sword—the only link to his home on Eternia. 'After tracking it down almost two decades later, Prince Adam is whisked back across space to defend his home planet against the evil forces of Skeletor. 'But to defeat such a powerful villain, Prince Adam will first need to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man: the most powerful man in the Universe!' The script was was written by Chris Butler ( ParaNorman ), and it builds on an earlier draft by David Callaham ( Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings ). Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, and DeVon Franklin are producing. The movie also stars Alison Brie ( Community ) as Evil-Lyn, while Jared Leto ( Blade Runner 2049 ) will play the villain Skeletor. Then there's Sam C. Wilson as Trap Jaw, Hafthor Bjornsson as Goat Man, and Kojo Attah as Tri-Klops. Check out the set video and photos at the links below—and let the speculation begin: are we finally getting the Masters of the Universe movie we deserve?

First look at Camila Mendes as warrior goddess Teela as she films new scenes for upcoming Masters Of The Universe reboot alongside Nicholas Galitzine's He-Man

Camila Mendes looked incredible as she was seen for the first time shooting scenes for her new upcoming live action remake of 1987's Masters Of The Universe in London. The Riverdale icon, 30, looked every inch of the superwoman as she transformed into warrior goddess Teela. For the hotly-anticipated He-Man movie, she was captured filming various action sequences alongside lead star Nicholas Galitzine, who stars as Prince Adam/He-Man. Camila sent temperatures soaring displaying her very toned physique in a figure-hugging white and gold jumpsuit, featuring high red boots and thick elbow pads. The actress rocked vibrant red hair, which she recently debuted on her Instagram, ditching her trademark raven locks for the occasion. The Do Revenge star caught the eye while taking on some action-packed stunts while playing the role of Prince Adam's love interest and protector. Teela's character was originally played by Chelsea Field in the previous live-action movie and was voiced by Sarah Michelle Gellar in Netflix's animated series before being replaced by Melissa Benoist. The superhero feature is directed by Travis Knight, produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel, and is scheduled to hiy theatres on June 5, 2026. Per THR, Teela is 'the captain of the royal guard and the adopted daughter of Man-at-Arms, the royal family's inventor of weapons.' Within the multiple variations of the animated series, her character suspects Prince Adam of being the true identity of the hero He-Man, but in other adaptations she has been his love interest. In the upcoming film, Purple Hearts actor Nicholas Galitzine will take on the roles of Prince Adam of Eternia and He-Man, after his casting was confirmed in May. Get Hard star Alison Brie is slated to play the villain, Evil-Lyn, who is second-in-command to Skeletor. Her casting was announced in early September, but an actor to play Skeletor has not yet been announced. However, Jared Leto is reportedly being considered for the role of the main-antagonist, according to THR. Additional cast and crew announcements have not yet been revealed but are expected as production approaches. Plot details for the new film are being kept under wraps at the moment, so it isn't clear how closely it will stick to the original animated series. The Masters Of The Universe franchise started as a 5.5-inch action figure line launched by Mattel in 1981. Each action figure came with a mini-comic that detailed the character's origins, which ultimately paved the way for children's books and a DC Comics run. Two years after the toys debuted, the Filmation animated series He-Man And The Masters Of The Universe debuted in the fall in 1983. The series was set on the planet of Eternia, centering on Prince Adam — who would turn into He-Man when wielding his Power Sword and saying, 'By the Power of Greyskull...' His primary nemesis was Skeletor, who would assemble various minions from his lair in Snake Mountain to try to defeat He-Man and his cohorts. The animated series aired 130 episodes that ran over two seasons, before going off the air in 1985.

BTS footage of Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man debuts at CinemaCon — here's what fans think

Masters of the Universe just debuted a first look at behind-the-scenes footage for the film at CinemaCon, and fans are already clamoring for more. The live action adaptation, which is set to star beloved heartthrob Nicholas Galitzine, has had fans wary ever since the initial announcement. The initial set photos that leaked online didn't do much to assuage hesitations, but apparently the actual footage is an entirely different story. Director Travis Knight debuted a sizzle reel featuring clips of the cast and crew from the production (which is still ongoing) at CinemaCon 2025. The footage hasn't been shared online, so we're left to rely on descriptions from those in attendance, but the reactions have been extremely positive so far. DiscussingFilm said there appears to be an "emphasis on practicality and accuracy, without it looking too ridiculous or uncanny in live-action." The Hollywood Reporter recounted shots of Galitzine's "rigorous training that included sword play and weight lifting," as well as footage of the actor in costume. Reports across social media have also provided hope that this movie will be the best version of itself possible — although Galitzine fans will definitely be seated on opening night either way. — (@) "OH MY GOD. Masters of the Universe looks HEAVENLY. He-Man fans are going to eat this up." — (@) "We just got a first look at the 'MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE' movie and to say we're wowed is an understatement. The costumes and set pieces all look incredibly faithful to the toys and the production design is top notch. Travis Night seems to have cracked the code." — (@) "Just one more thing about the #AmazonMGM panel at #CinemaCon - with many considering it the best among the studios so far - is the high praise to their first look of #MastersOfTheUniverse, for following a Universal approach instead of #Disney or #Netflix, with an extremely faithful live-action adaptation visually. Many attendees changed from skepticism to excitement about this production, which hits theatres next SUMMER, on JUN 5, 2026." — (@) "Shows off characters in costume and look gorgeous and accurate in epic fashion. The sword is perfect. Sets are breathtaking. ETERNIA IS A HUGE FOCUS." — (@) "MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE looks absolutely absurd. I'm kind of in? The BTS footage we saw is so indebted to the cartoon and toys, with bright colors and expressive sets. It's definitely for the "80s guys" in the audience. I'm curious…" — (@) "who said $1billion box office for masters of the universe ???" The world has also recently been treated to a new photoshoot of Galitzine in GQ Germany, making this a truly delightful week all around for his fans. — (@) Masters of the Universe is currently slated for a June 26, 2026 release.

First look at Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man in ‘Masters of the Universe' live-action film

Amazon MGM Studios has released the first official teaser image of Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man in the upcoming Masters of the Universe live-action film, set to hit theaters on June 6, 2026. The image showcases He-Man's legendary Power Sword, Galitzine's muscular transformation, and a costume reminiscent of the classic 1980s animated series. Eternia is in good hands. However, like its predecessor, much of the story will take place on Earth rather than Eternia. The teaser image arrives shortly after leaked set photos revealed a more grounded version of Prince Adam, sparking speculation among fans. Joining Galitzine in the star-studded cast are Jared Leto as Skeletor, Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn, and Morena Baccarin as the Sorceress. With a powerhouse cast and a director known for action-packed storytelling, Masters of the Universe is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated fantasy films of 2026. Fans of the franchise have long awaited a faithful live-action adaptation of He-Man's adventures, and this new image suggests the film will deliver on nostalgia while introducing the character to a new generation.

"Masters of the Universe" Movie Adds 3 to Cast

Yara Sameh The live-action film 'Masters of the Universe' is continuing to power up as three cast members have joined the Amazon MGM Studios project. The reimagining of the popular Mattel toy line, the film has started production and has added Sasheer Zamata as Suzie, Jon Xue Zhang as Ram-Man, and Christian Vunipola as Hussein. Nicholas Galitzine was previously announced to star as He-Man in director Travis Knight's feature that is set to hit theaters exclusively on June 5, 2026. They'll join the previously cast Nicholas Galitzine (set to portray He-Man), Camila Mendes (Teela), Jared Leto (Skeletor), Idris Elba (Duncan/Man-at-Arms), Morena Baccarin (The Sorceress), James Purefoy (King Randor), Alison Brie (Evil-Lyn), Charlotte Riley (Queen Marlena), Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson (Malcolm/Fisto), Sam C. Wilson (Trap Jaw), Hafthor Bjornsson (Goat Man) and Kojo Attah (Tri-Klops). 'Bumblebee' director Travis Knight is directing for the Escape Artists and Mattel Films production. Knight is helming the project from a script by Chris Butler. The initial draft of the screenplay was penned by David Callaham, Aaron Nee, and Adam Nee. Mattel launched the Masters of the Universe franchise with a line of action figures that debuted in 1982. A year later, the animated series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe premiered in syndication and was followed by video games and other merchandise. 'Masters of the Universe' has endured a particularly torturous, two-decade-plus journey to the big screen. The project was set up at Warner Bros. and Sony before moving to Netflix, which axed the film in 2023 over budget concerns. Countless directors, including 'Kung Fu Panda' filmmaker John Stevenson, 'Wicked' helmer Jon M. Chu, 'Charlie's Angels' filmmaker McG and 'The Lost City' duo Aaron and Adam Nee, have cycled through the movie since 2007. 'West Side Story' actor Kyle Allen was at one point attached to play He-Man; it's unclear when those talks fell apart. Plot details are being kept under wraps. According to a prior synopsis from the studio, 'Masters of the Universe' follows Prince Adam a.k.a. He-Man, who crashes to Earth in a spaceship as a child and, decades later, returns to his home planet to defend it from the evil forces of the baddie known as Skeletor. But in order to defeat the powerful villain, he needs to uncover the mysteries of his past and become He-Man, referred to in this world as 'the most powerful man in the universe.' It is one of 15 live-action motion pictures in development — some more curious than others — at Mattel Films, including Daniel Kaluuya's 'Barney,' the Jennifer Lopez and Anthony Ramos animated 'Bob the Builder,' rapper Lil Yachty's heist thriller 'Uno' and Vin Diesel's 'Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots.' Mattel's first and only film, so far, has been the billion-dollar blockbuster 'Barbie' for Warner Bros. 'Masters of the Universe' will be released in theaters on June 5, 2026.
