Chicago Bears Linked to Nick Chubb by Insider

Chicago Bears Linked to Nick Chubb by Insider originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Chicago Bears are officially entering a pivotal stage of their offseason program with mandatory OTAs beginning this week. While the focus is on player development and system install under new head coach Ben Johnson, another narrative is quietly building around the team's roster. As the window for unrestricted free agents nears its next phase, one decorated name in the backfield has surfaced as a possible late-offseason pickup—drawing attention from both insiders and fans alike. Advertisement Pro Bowl running back Nick Chubb, 29, has been one of the league's most consistent ball carriers since entering the NFL in 2018. A four-time Pro Bowler and former second-team All-Pro, Chubb has compiled over 6,500 rushing yards despite battling injuries late in his career. After suffering a devastating knee injury early in the 2023 season, his future with the Cleveland Browns has become increasingly uncertain. ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, speaking on ESPN Cleveland and in a clip shared on X (formerly Twitter), weighed in on Chubb's next move: 'I do not expect him back with the Browns,' Fowler said, adding, 'the Bears and Commanders come to mind just in general terms as teams that could be looking for an extra back.' The Bears already feature veteran D'Andre Swift, who narrowly missed the 1,000-yard mark last season, along with Roschon Johnson and rookie Kyle Monangai, selected with the 233rd pick in April. Nick ChubbGetty Images While the room has depth, Chubb's power, leadership, and playoff experience could add another layer to an evolving offense looking to take the next step. Soldier FieldGetty Images The question now becomes whether Chicago, building around a young quarterback and a revamped offensive identity, would take the risk on a high-upside veteran recovering from injury. No move has been confirmed, but if the buzz is any indication, the Bears could be exploring every option to build a complete, competitive roster. 10 notable NFL free agents still available for Broncos

10 notable NFL free agents still available for Broncos The Denver Broncos have roughly $16 million in available salary cap space (according to so will they look to bring in any more free agents? Let's take a quick look at five positions. The Broncos have Jarrett Stidham as their returning veteran backup quarterback, so there's no need to look for a QB. A few of the team's old friends -- including Teddy Bridgewater, Jeff Driskel and Ben DiNucci -- are still available. Denver's also pretty set at running back with RJ Harvey, Audric Estime and Jaleel McLaughlin, but it's notable that J.K. Dobbins, Nick Chubb and Gus Edwards remain on the market. They are RBs to keep an eye on. After drafting Pat Bryant, the Broncos seem unlikely to target wide receivers, but Keenan Allen, Amari Cooper, Gabe Davis and Tyler Boyd are also still on the market. Denver is deep at pass rusher, so the team seems unlikely to bring back Von Miller or Shaq Barrett. The same could be said at safety, so a Justin Simmons return appears to be a long shot. Overall, the Broncos' roster seems to be pretty set. Denver is always looking for more depth, but general manager George Paton probably isn't going to make any more splash signings this offseason. NFL free agents still available RB J.K. Dobbins RB Nick Chubb RB Gus Edwards WR Keenan Allen WR Amari Cooper WR Gabe Davis WR Tyler Boyd OLB Von Miller OLB Shaq Barrett DB Justin Simmons The Broncos are continuing organized team activities this week, followed by a mandatory minicamp next week. After that, players will get a summer break leading up to training camp, which usually begins in late July. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans.

Insider Suggests Commanders Could Sign Nick Chubb

Insider Suggests Commanders Could Sign Nick Chubb originally appeared on Athlon Sports. In 2023, running back Austin Ekeler was among the biggest villains of the fantasy football world. As he dealt with an ankle injury, his efficiency dipped to a meager 3.5 yards per carry as his production fell off a cliff. Advertisement A season later, Ekeler's production continued to decline. But in a new role, with redefined expectations, his reputation improved. On a resurgent Washington Commanders team, he wasn't alone in that regard. Now, Washington is attempting to get quarterback Jayden Daniels over the hump. It has brought in established veterans who are proven quantities, on and off the field. Could another veteran running back be next? ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler suggested that the Commanders could sign former All-Pro running back Nick Chubb. 'I know he [Nick Chubb] expects to play,' Fowler said for ESPN Cleveland. 'The running back market is tough. A lot of these guys are waiting, I think probably up until training camp at this point. I do not expect Chubb back with the Browns barring some sort of surprise or injury. Advertisement 'There are some teams out there that could be in the market for one. You know, the Commanders or the Bears come to mind. They could be looking for an extra back at some point. Right now he's in that mode where you just survey the landscape, see what develops, and keep working out to play next year.' Like Ekeler a year ago, Chubb is coming off a concerning season as it pertains to both his production and injury history. After recovering from a second catastrophic knee injury, Chubb ran for 3.3 yards per attempt—nearly two yards below his career average of 5.1. His toe injury ended his season and cast further doubt upon his NFL future. Advertisement As far as bounce-back candidates go, Chubb's case can't be considered strong. Age-30 seasons don't bring good news for most backs, much less those with Chubb's baggage. However, the Commanders could bring in Chubb with the intention of handing him a small-time role behind Brian Robinson Jr., especially with the allure of a deep playoff run. Perhaps more playing time or guaranteed money would appeal to Chubb more. As his market continues to shrink, though, Washington shouldn't be ignored as a landing spot. Browns GM's Latest Nick Chubb Update Sparks Strong Reaction from NFL Fans

Entering the 2025 NFL offseason, it was widely expected that Nick Chubb would re-sign with the Cleveland Browns on an incentive-based deal. He has meant a lot to the franchise throughout his years in the city, but things have taken a turn. Following the Browns' decision to draft two running backs, Quinshon Judkins and Dylan Sampson, Chubb is not expected to return to Cleveland. Advertisement Andrew Berry, the Browns' general manager, spoke out with an honest update about Chubb's possible return on Friday. "I would says it's probably increasingly unlikely," Berry said. "I'd say maybe a return is less likely, at least in the short term, with us right now." Fans are clearly not super happy with the idea of Chubb playing for another team. They have started commenting on Berry's update on the situation. Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb.© Tommy Gilligan-Imagn Images "Bring him back. He is The Browns," one fan wrote. Another fan commented, "I hope Chubb goes to a super bowl contender as a short yardage battering ram scores 15 touchdowns and gets a ring because he deserves that and the Browns don't deserve him." Advertisement "He really about to choose Jerome Ford over Nick Chubb? I hope they go 2-14 and he get fired," a third comment said. A fourth comment read, "Every new development stings more." "Goodbye Batman. This generations favorite Brown has likely played his final game for Cleveland," a fifth comment said. If Chubb has indeed played his final game in Cleveland, he will leave town with 1,340 career carries for 6,843 yards and 51 touchdowns in 85 games, averaging an impressive 5.1 yards per carry. He also caught 128 passes for 1,042 yards and five more touchdowns. Related: Insider Hints a Shedeur Sanders Trade Could Be In Play for Browns

Browns GM Updates Sad Nick Chubb Truth for Fans

The Cleveland Browns have a very public quarterback problem. But what's a little lesser known is their potential issue at running back. After seven total seasons with Nick Chubb in the backfield, including two injury-riddled campaigns, it appears the Browns could be moving on from the former Georgia Bulldog. Advertisement In this year's NFL Draft, the general manager, Andrew Berry, selected Ohio State running back Quinshon Judkins in the second round and Tennessee's Dylan Samson in the fourth. That, along with the reworking of Jerome Ford's contract, seems to indicate Chubb's time in Cleveland is done. 'I wouldn't rule anything out, but I would say it's probably increasingly unlikely,' Berry said in a Friday interview with Ken Carman and Anthony Lima on Cleveland's 92.3 The Fan. 'We do have two young guys that we like. We think Jerome plays a role. It's basically kind of maybe seeing how the roles shake out in the running backs room. 'Look, you're never going to rule out someone as near and dear to our heart as Nick. And I would expect him to take another step, being another year removed from the injury. But I'd say maybe a return is less likely — at least in the short term — with us right now.' How will things "shake out''? If it all doesn't go just right ... it's a problem. Advertisement And the Browns will get second-guessed here by fans who love Chubb. The Browns took Chubb in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft, and he was a regular contributor to the Cleveland offense, appearing in 75 of 82 games and eclipsing the 1,000-yard mark in four of those seasons. He also scored 48 touchdowns during that time. But after a devastating knee injury in 2023, he's played in just 10 games over the past two seasons and rushed for 502 yards total with three scores. Chubb is just 29 and might still have a couple of NFL years left. But it looks like that will be somewhere else and not in Cleveland.
