Collingwood star 'happy', says new contract coming soon

Star Collingwood ruck Darcy Cameron wants to stay at the Magpies and hopes his manager can sort out a new deal "soon". Despite being contracted until the end of 2026, Cameron is hot property. A report on SEN WA last week linked the 29-year-old to West Coast, suggesting the Eagles are highly interested in luring Cameron. Rebuilding West Coast are in desperate need of a quality ruck, so a move for Cameron would make sense. Originally from Albany in Western Australia, Cameron is in career-best form after placing second in Collingwood's Copeland Trophy last year, only behind superstar Nick Daicos. Asked if he wanted to remain at Collingwood, Cameron replied: "Of course I want to stay. "Very happy at the Pies," the premiership star told AAP. "My manager's in constant conversations with people around here and I'll let them sort that out. "They're such a good team. "We'll let them do the work and hopefully we can sort something out soon." Veteran big man Mason Cox made way for last Friday night's clash with Hawthorn, as Cameron instead received help in the ruck from Tim Membrey and Brody Mihocek up forward. Defender Billy Frampton also stepped in for Cameron at some centre bounces, as Collingwood demolished the Hawks by 51 points. "It was still pretty much the same game time, same amount of ruck time," Cameron said. "It was just asking a bit of Tim Membrey and Brody Mihocek, then Billy Frampton for some bounces. "They all do a good job, and they (Hawthorn) don't have a second ruck either." Premiership favourites Collingwood (10-2) have an extended break before facing Melbourne in the King's Birthday match at the MCG.

AFL world has a field day over Nick Daicos' drought-breaking stat

Nick Daicos has finally ended one of the most bizarre statistical anomalies in the AFL in Collingwood's 51-point thrashing of the Hawks on Friday night. At just 22 years old, the Collingwood superstar is already a premiership player, a two-time All Australian and a club best and fairest winner. But staggeringly, one thing the diminutive midfielder had not done in an AFL game was take a contested mark prior to Friday's dominant 16.11 (107) to 8.8 (56) win over Hawthorn. FOX FOOTY, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every match of every round in the 2025 Toyota AFL Premiership Season LIVE in 4K, with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Daicos' failure to add that stat to his glowing resume had gained a life of its own, with countless comments, plenty of ribbing from his teammates and even an X account dedicated to the pursuit. Just over five minutes into the Pies' huge Friday night clash with Hawthorn at the MCG, the moment that has taken Daicos 82 games and well over 1000 days finally arrived. Watch the milestone moment in the video player above After a ball up following a goal from Hawk James Worpel, Steele Sidebottom took possession and wheeled around, spotting Daicos in the middle of the ground. Daicos had a small gap to his opponent, coincidentally Worpel again, and took the mark right as the Hawthorn star made body contact and tried to spoil. While there were some doubts over its authenticity, the moment appeared as a stat on the live scores and was immediately noted by the commentary team on Channel 7. 'That looked like a contested mark to me,' Matthew Richardson said. James Brayshaw replied excitedly: 'I think it is. Is that the numero uno?' Richardson replied: 'I'm calling it. That had to be.' Daicos can slice and dice teams like only a handful of players in the league, but when he pushes forward he's severely hampered in one-on-one contests. That at least explains part of the reason why he'd never taken a contested mark since entering the AFL. It's something his teammates are well aware of as Isaac Quaynor pointed out once again during Collingwood's clash with Fremantle a fortnight ago. 'You want Nick Daicos wherever you can get him and it's good to have him up forward,' Quaynor told Channel 7. 'He almost took his (first) contested mark. We've been trying to get him a contested mark all year so it was close.' Brother Josh Daicos also took great delight in ribbing his brother's inability to take a pack mark following the club's win over Essendon in Round 7. 'We get into Nick sometimes trying to get him a contested mark,' Daicos said on Fox Footy. 'When they saw me have two back-to-back they got around me which made me feel good.' Adding to the theatre of the situation, a parody account on X had begun keeping track of the number of days. Prior to Friday night's game, the account titled 'Has Daicos taken a Contested Mark?' last posted on May 22 that it had apparently been 1,145 days without the star achieving the feat. In a superb pivot, the account tweeted again during the match-up with the Hawks, writing: 'Has Daicos won a Brownlow? No. Day 1,170.' Fans online were also having a field day over the so-called achievement. 'Reckon he might get his first bruise at some stage in the next 82 as well,' one fan quipped. 'Never seen any player get congratulated for this,' wrote another. 'Here comes 'doesn't count' or 'softest contested mark',' another fan correctly predicted. 'I've seen my dog take a tougher contested grab than that!' was another observation. A fifth joked: 'He's got a taste for it now. Watch out.' A sixth added: 'The fact that people care about this is concerning.' Outside of Daicos' moment, the Pies trailed briefly in the first term before putting their foot down in another ominous performance. Kicking 12 goals to five after quarter-time, Collingwood star Jamie Elliott led the way with a game-high five, backed up by Brody Mihocek (four) and Sidebottom (two).

Collingwood v Hawthorn AFL Round 12: Live updates, SuperCoach scores, teams

Nick Daicos may have snapped a mid-season malaise at halftime against North Melbourne. After three uncharacteristically low SuperCoach scores – 89, 79, 95 – and some heavy tags, Daicos was looking at another middling tally when he entered the main break with 10 disposals and two marks. But he exploded after the break, racking up 11 touches in the third quarter and 17 in the last to signal an ominous return to form ahead of a Friday night clash against Hawthorn. The one possible catch – he could run into occasional Hawks stopper Finn Maginness, who famously restricted Daicos to just five disposals in round 21, 2023.

Maynard hobbled as depleted Magpies swamp North late

Brayden Maynard is the latest Collingwood veteran hobbled by injury after their depleted AFL lineup blew away North Melbourne. While Magpies coach Craig McRae expects to welcome back some players for Friday night's match against Hawthorn, he said Maynard will need scans after a planta fascia problem flared early in Saturday night's win. Maynard was subbed out of the game in the first quarter at Marvel Stadium, with McRae calling it an "actual incident". It left the Magpies in early trouble after Scott Pendlebury (illness) and Bobby Hill (personal reasons) were late withdrawals on Saturday afternoon. Maynard was also rested from the away match against Fremantle two weekends ago because of his foot problem. "He's been having symptoms of that for a while now ... but this is an actual incident that's caused some sort of trouble there, so we'll have to wait and see." Darcy Moore, Lachie Schultz and Jordan De Goey were among other senior Collingwood players sidelined for the 15.18 (108) to 9.9 (63) win over North. "It's a pretty impressive rehab group we have at the moment and most of them will be available next week, which is exciting," McRae said. In their absence, Nick and Josh Daicos starred and Jamie Elliott kicked five goals to spearhead the win. Collingwood's lesser lights also impressed - Oleg Markov was at Bunnings on Saturday when McRae rang to draft him into the side at the last minute, while Ed Allan and Will Parker also played their roles well. Ned Long continued to shine in the midfield, racking up 15 score involvements, and defender Billy Frampton made some crucial spoils when North were pressing in the first half. After a tight game, Collingwood blew North away with eight goals to one in the final quarter. "The most significant message is you have to play four quarter, boys - you can't just play three," said Kangaroos coach Alastair Clarkson. He also heaped praise on Nick Daicos, who dominated after a quiet first half. "In the last quarter he was the superior player on the ground, really," Clarkson said. "That's his capability. We did a good job to curtail his influence in the first half, but we couldn't do it in the second. "For his age, I'm not sure I've seen a player come in and make as big an impact in his first couple of years and then maintain that high, high standard. "It's a little bit scary, thinking he might still play for another dozen years. He's a pretty special footballer, his brother's not too bad either."
