LA28 marks 3 years to Paralympics with new emblems
LA28 unveiled two new Paralympic emblems to mark three years out from the first Los Angeles Paralympic Games. One custom emblem — named Relentless Reinvention — has 'a pixelated kaleidoscope of ideas that converge to create a transformed and multifaceted version of oneself - one that pushes the boundaries of what seems possible and reaches again and again for greatness,' according to LA28. Another custom emblem — named Innovation Moonshot — tries 'as many keys as possible until one unlocks full potential and maximum creativity.' It 'recognizes Los Angeles as a global hub of innovation - a city that continues to redefine what's possible, making it a driving force for progress and transformation.' 'With just three years to go, LA28 remains steadfast in our commitment to deliver an unforgettable Paralympic Games in Los Angeles for the very first time in history,' LA28 Chief Executive Officer Reynold Hoover said in a press release. 'The LA28 Paralympic Games will be an incredible opportunity to reshape the conversation around individuals with disabilities within the sports world and beyond and has the capacity to serve as a catalyst for progress, inclusivity and global recognition of the world's third largest sporting event.' Back in 2020, LA28 launched an unprecedented logo design — one that allows for an infinite number of emblems. Each one has a foundation of a black L, 2 and 8 with an A of personal choice and design. On Aug. 15, 2028, the first Paralympics to be held in Los Angeles will begin with an Opening Ceremony at SoFi Stadium. While LA previously hosted the Olympics in 1932 and 1984, the Paralympic Games did not start regularly following the Olympics in the same host city until 1988. The LA Paralympics will feature 560 medal events across 23 sports, including the debut of Para climbing. The venue plan calls for all of the competition sites to be within a 35-miles radius. After the Opening Ceremony at SoFi Stadium, medal events will be held at LA venues including the Coliseum (track and field), Arena (wheelchair basketball) and USC's Galen Center (badminton and wheelchair rugby). Competition will also be held in Long Beach, Carson and Arcadia. Nick Zaccardi,

Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic, Paralympic medal designs revealed
The medals for the 2026 Milan Cortina Winter Olympics and Paralympics were unveiled on Tuesday. One side of the medal design has the two halves coming together to create the Olympic rings or the Paralympic Agitos. The other side has the Milan Cortina Games logo on one half and the name of the event on the other half, including Braille for the Paralympic medals. The medal designs are two halves to celebrate 'the power of differences ... to create a bold, unified statement.' Milan Cortina organizers described the medals as 'a gesture of perpetual motion and union": 'A dynamic graphic abstraction showing the union of two parts in constant motion, highlighted by the contrast between a granular texture and a mirrored surface. The design stays pure and simple — using only the essential lines to express the ideas of union and movement. The medal's energy comes from this division, representing ongoing change. These elements are brought together by the Olympic and Paralympic values, turning contrast into unity and motion into meaning.' Milan Cortina 2026 The Milan Cortina Olympics, which open Feb. 6, will feature the most medal events in Winter Games history —116 of them spread across clusters in Northern Italy. The first medals are scheduled to be awarded in Alpine skiing (men's downhill) and cross-country skiing (women's 20km skiathlon) on Feb. 7. The Milan Cortina Paralympics, which open March 6, will have 79 medal events. The first medals are scheduled to be awarded in Para Alpine skiing and Para biathlon. LA 2028 Olympics daily competition schedule released
Los Angeles 2028 Olympics organizers announced the daily competition schedule for the Games that will have a record 351 medal events. Action starts on Wednesday, July 12, 2028 -- two days before the Opening Ceremony, as usual -- with preliminary competition in basketball, cricket, field hockey, handball, rugby sevens, soccer and water polo. It will mark the most sports to have competition before the day of the Opening Ceremony since the 1920 Antwerp Games, according to the OlyMADMen. At the 2024 Paris Olympics, preliminary competition in archery, handball, rugby sevens and soccer was held before the Opening Ceremony. LA 2028 will mark the first time that basketball games will be held on a day before the Opening Ceremony date since the 1952 Helsinki Games, according to the OlyMADMen. Further schedule details by event are expected to be announced later in 2025. On July 14, the day of the Opening Ceremony (8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT), one sport will have competition. Canoe slalom will be held at the Oklahoma City Whitewater Center. Softball will also be held in Oklahoma City in the second week of the Games — at Devon Park, the annual host of the NCAA Women's College World Series. LA 2028 On July 15, the first medals of the Games will be awarded in triathlon, which will be held along Venice Beach. As previously announced, track and field and swimming will switch places in the Olympic schedule — track and field in the first week and swimming in the second week. The switch will aid SoFi Stadium's transition from co-hosting the Opening Ceremony on July 14 to becoming the first NFL stadium to host Olympic swimming starting July 22. The marathons will still be held on the last weekend of the Games, keeping with tradition. Flag football, which makes its Olympic debut, will be in the first week from July 15-22. If NFL players take part, having that competition early could be helpful given NFL preseason training camps typically open in mid-to-late July with preseason games ramping up in early August. Baseball, which returns to the Games, will also be in the first week from July 15-20 at Dodger Stadium (which hosted baseball as a demonstration sport at the 1984 LA Games). Though Major League Baseball has not made decision on whether to allow active big leaguers to participate in the Olympics for the first time, note that the MLB All-Star breaks the past five seasons have been: July 12-14, 18-20, 10-13, 15-18 and 14-17. 2025 Tour de France Jerseys: What do the yellow, green, white and polka dot jerseys mean?
The 2025 Tour de France begins on Saturday, July 5 and runs through Sunday, July 27. This year marks the 112th edition of the event, and for the first time since 2020, the route will take place entirely in France. Live coverage of all 21 stages will be available on Peacock. Riders will compete for the highly sought-after yellow, green, polka-dot, and white jerseys. See below to find out what each jersey represents, as well as additional information on how you can live stream the 2025 Tour de France on Peacock. Nick Zaccardi, Click here to sign up for Peacock! What does the yellow jersey mean in the Tour de France? The yellow jersey, known as maillot jaune in French, is awarded to the rider leading the overall classification after all stages are completed, making it the most coveted prize. The fastest rider from the previous day earns the right to wear the jersey for the following day of racing. The winner of the yellow jersey is determined by cumulative time rather than points, meaning the stage winner may not necessarily wear the jersey. What does the green jersey mean in the Tour de France? The green jersey or maillot vert goes to the rider with the most overall points after all stages are complete. Points are awarded on given stages for winning 'sprints' within the stage and winning an overall stage. This jersey is often referred to as 'the sprinter's jersey'. The number of points available for each stage will vary based on the stage's profile. For example, a flat stage finish is typically worth more points than a hilly or mountainous stage finish. What does the white jersey mean in the Tour de France? The white jersey (maillot blanc) symbolizes the future and honors the youth. The jersey is awarded to the highest-ranked cyclist in the overall standings who is 25 years of age or younger. What does the polka-dot jersey mean in the Tour de France? The polka-dot jersey (maillot à pois rouges) goes to the rider with the most overall mountain-related points after all stages are complete. Riders earn points by reaching the summit first in designated climbs during each stage. The amount of points awarded varies depending on the difficulty of the climb. RELATED: 2025 Tour de France route - stage profiles, previews, start, finish times Has anyone won all 3 jerseys in the Tour de France? Slovenia's Tadej Pogačar captured the yellow, polka-dot, and white jerseys at the Tour de France in both 2020 and 2021, marking the first time since Eddy Merckx in 1969 and 1970 that a rider achieved this impressive triple-jersey feat.
