Barry McGuigan 'grateful' for messages on anniversary of daughter Nika's death

Boxing legend Barry McGuigan has said he is 'grateful' for all the messages of condolences and support as he remembers his daughter Nika six years after her passing. The talented actress passed away in July 2019, aged 33, from cancer, and last week saw the sixth anniversary of her passing. In a post on social media, McGuigan said on the anniversary: "It was 6 years yesterday that we lost our precious daughter Nika. You are loved and missed so much Nika." McGuigan's social media was flooded with kind messages as the general public sent their best wishes to the Clones Cyclone and his family. "So many fabulous messages of condolences for our beloved daughter Nika. Our family are grateful for all you beautiful messages," he said in response. McGuigan has been public speaking about his daughter's passing and previously opened up how it was 'important' to speak out in the grieving process. Losing my daughter five years ago was dreadful, and I never recovered from it, me and my wife, but I'm getting better as time goes on," he said last year. "I used not to be able to talk about it at all, but I know it's important that I do chat about it, and I know she's there somewhere. "And it's just her life was so sad, and it all happened at a most important time in her life when things were looking great and she got cancer and she died. "Sandy and I, my wife, have never really recovered from it. I don't think we ever will, but time teaches us how to deal with it." Nika had a blossoming career as an actress, starring in hit TV Show Can't Cope, Won't Cope and won an IFTA for Best Lead Actress for her role in Wildfire.

Sharing the clip on Instagram, the actress joked: 'When ppl ask me if I'm filming S3 of Euphoria?' before cutting to footage of her cleaning the kitchen. Fans couldn't believe their eyes and soon rushed to the comments section. One wrote: "You know the job market is terrible when main actors of a huge TV show are struggling,' while another added: 'Learning that actors have real jobs out of the filming roles is really humbling to me.' read more on Euphoria A third said: "As an actor who's been out of work for the past two years after the biggest show I've ever done, this felt really validating,' one fan commented. 'Thanks for sharing.' Someone else added: 'This is real life and I'm glad you showed it. People think every actor or actress is rich off one show, and I know some that work regular jobs after being on a Hulu show.' Back in February, Nika confirmed she wouldn't be returning for season three, saying: 'I see the DMs, I see the comments asking if I'm returning for a season three on Euphoria – and unfortunately, I am not.' 'My character is not coming back to the show, but I am forever grateful to HBO and comedy background – but I am so excited about what's next for me. Most read in Celebrity 'Without Euphoria, I was not able to step into who I am as an actor, as a daughter, as a person who is always looking for healing in every project that I do – so I feel like this was necessary in my growth. 'And yeah, to the fans, I love y'all. I mean, I didn't know I even had fans! People were like, checking for me. I'm like, 'Oh, okay, cool' – but thank you so much. And you guys have an amazing day – peace and blessings.' Euphoria 'likely to end' with season 3 - but fans predict it 'won't ever end up getting made' after production delays Since her exit from the show, Nika has appeared in several films, including Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot and The Rebel Girls, both in 2024, as well as 65 alongside Adam Driver in 2023. She also hinted she's leaning on her faith through the transition, adding: 'All things work to those who love God and who are called by His purpose - and so I'm trusting Him to move me into the next season of my life.' Euphoria, which airs on HBO and HBO Max in the US and in the UK on Sky Atlantic and Now, is currently filming its third and final season. Ex-Euphoria Actor's New Job Sparks Fan Outrage

Euphoria fans just received a huge reality check after seeing what it's really like being a struggling actor in Hollywood. Nika King is widely known for playing Leslie Bennett (aka Rue and Gia's mom) on the hit HBO series for the first two seasons. Three years after Season 2 debuted in January 2022, it was announced that Season 3 had finally begun filming. It even included a photo of Zendaya on set for additional proof. Delays in production were due to a slew of reasons, which ranged from the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes in 2023 to alleged behind-the-scenes drama with claims of a "toxic" work environment and grueling "18-hour" workdays. During this delay, Euphoria producer Kevin Turen died in November 2023 from multiple heart issues, and Angus Cloud, who starred as the beloved Fez, tragically died of an accidental overdose at the age of 25 in July 2023. On top of all that, two cast members revealed they had no plans on returning to the show: Barbie Ferriera announced the shocking news shortly after Season 2 ended, while Storm Reid revealed she would be focusing on other things, like graduating from USC and working on projects through her production company. The delays also caused strain and stress for some of the cast members, including Nika. In March 2024, during one of her stand-up comedy shows posted on her TikTok, the actor and comedian admitted she was having trouble paying her rent because filming for Euphoria was taking so long to commence. 'People are like, 'We need Season 3.' I'm like, 'Bitch, I need Season 3. I haven't paid my rent in six months. I thought my career was on the rise after Euphoria. I thought I was good. It don't work that way. I called Taraji [P. Henson} and she was like, 'Bitch, get used to it.''While she recently starred in the American drama film Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot, we should note that filming for it began back in 2022. Fast forward to February 2025, Nika announced her "character is not coming back to the show," after she received tons of DMs and comments asking about Season 3. "Unfortunately, I'm not [returning]," she said in a video posted online. "My character is not coming back to the show, but I am forever grateful to HBO, Zendaya, and Sam Levinson for giving me the opportunity to come on set." "Without Euphoria, I was not able to step into who I am as an actor." Fans showered her with words of encouragement on her future endeavors, while also expressing sadness that they won't see her in future episodes. But concern for Nika grew when she recently shared a video of her cleaning what appeared to be a restaurant kitchen. She captioned the clip, "When ppl ask me if I'm filming S3 of Euphoria?" while the caption for the post read, "A job is a job." Reactions ranged from saying how "fucked up" it is that her promising acting career led her to a non-Hollywood position, to applause for her vulnerability in sharing the realities of being a struggling actor in the industry: At first glance, I had similar thoughts, but I quickly found out there was more to her post than meets the eye. After noticing she tagged an account on the post I checked the page out, and discovered Nika not only works in that kitchen, but she co-owns the establishment it's located in. The account is linked to Blue Tree Cafe, a vegan soul food restaurant run by Nika and her mother, Sharon Allen. The page was a pleasant surprise because the food looks delicious, and their playful relationship shines in their videos. And once others caught on as well, But owning a restaurant is no easy feat either. Nika hopped on a popular social media trend where people show how they mask their true emotions while dealing with a crisis — and for Nika, that was the current status of the restaurant. Nika and her mother also set up a GoFundMe as a way to help the establishment from closing. I truly appreciate the transparency, even if it's done through laughter. I don't know about you, but I'm wishing Nika success in all of her passions — acting, comedy, and restaurateur.

Cheese grater has secret use for potatoes and Brits are absolutely floored

TikToker baffles the internet after showing how to make viral potato spiral skewer, by using this one side of a the cheese grater that's often being overlooked. The common cheese grater has various gradients and sections - but more often that not we resign to just using one. A household staple, the cheese grater is used for finely chopping up blocks of cheese for all kinds of meals. But TikToker and mum, who uses the social media handle Nika Life Hacks Daily, left the internet in a spiral (quite literally) after showing a cooking hack which doesn't involve cheese at all. ‌ Instead of a standard block of cheddar, she used a potato. And it created a spiral effect, which is something officially called the tornado potato by the likes of celebrity chef Jamie Oliver. ‌ Using one side of a cheese grater with wider inserts to grind against the potato, the 12-second video gave a step-by-step tutorial on how to make this viral potato spiral. She starts by taking a full-sized potato and putting it through one side of the cheese grater, twisting it until the 'spiral' potato forms. Using a stick, she pokes it in the middle, spreading it until it forms a long potato skewer. Using cooking spraying oil and other spices to give it some extra flavour, she then adds them to the oven to roast - and the results look mouth-watering. Racking up almost a million likes, thousands of comments were also left by viewers who expressed their shock, many applauding Nika's creativity and initiative - and how delicious it turned out to be. One said in capital letters: 'THIS IS WHY I HAVE TIKTOK,' with a second one adding: 'Wait is THAT how you use that part of the cheese grater!?!?!' ‌ 'You literally changed my life,' a third one commented. A fourth one wrote: 'What, cheese graters need instructions for us to get the best use out of it, this is so cool.' Nika is known for posting daily hacks and DIY tips, including how to cut watermelons properly and even how to open a car after locking the keys inside. Another of her videos, which also accumulated over a million views, was on how to fix a stuck roll of aluminium foil.

Swada x Niczos: Discover the new twist to traditional Slavic music

On a Podlasie meadow at sunrise, a project that merges the seemingly uncombinable worlds of Slavic folk and electronic dance music. Combining a micro-language of the Podlasie region of Eastern Poland with musical elements of the modern day, Swada x Niczos aims to keep tradition alive. Swada x Niczos are a duo who show that the past isn't about relics. Rather, it can evolve and beat to the rhythm of the contemporary world. A voice that carries a story Nika "Niczos" Jurczuk and Wiktor "Swada" Szczygieł use their work to hark back to their musical roots. Their inspiration is none other than "white voice singing" - a vocal technique characteristic of Eastern European folk music. Strong, clear, often compared to "melodic shouting", the technique has been used in Poland, Ukraine, Belarus, and Bulgaria to tell stories that lie deep in the soul. For Nika, it is a form of expression that allows her to immerse herself in something primal and real. "It has magic inside. It is tough, but at the same time very malleable. You can use it to convey emotions that words cannot express," emphasises the singer. In the Podlasie region, folk singing flows through the veins of its residents from childhood, passed on from generation to generation. "When I was still a very young girl, I was already learning white singing, folk singing," Agata Stepaniuk of the Swada x Niczos ensemble tells Euronews Culture. "[Nika and I] met in a folk band, so this kind of singing is not alien to me. I have always enjoyed it very much. It is a beautiful means of carrying tradition and culture." Grandmothers' speech + the rhythm of the future The group, like the region it comes from, also has its own language, which reflects the shifting borders and complex, diverse history of Podlasie. The artists do not sing in Polish or Belarusian. They use the Podlasian micro-language, a form of speech that can still be heard in villages. Mostly in conversations with grandmothers and grandfathers. "This is how they used to speak and still speak in the villages," Anna Owerczuk tells Euronews Culture. Slapping on some (moving) bass As a music producer, Swada, creates a modern fabric around this world of sound - beats, synths, and a heavy bass that carries the group's message through a danceable rhythm. "As it turns out, people of advanced age like to dance to the bass, but also people who bring their children along with them. These children are also dancing," shares Swada. A new life for an old voice Swada and Niczos do not reconstruct folklore as a historical relic. They are inspired by it and give it a new form, known as "Podlasie bounce". It is a phenomenon from the borderlands, not only the cultural ones between Poland, Belarus and Lithuania, but also between the sounds of old folk traditions and modern trends. Given the revival of folk traditions, this unique music project shows that it is possible to speak with one's own voice, which can be loud, strong and extremely danceable. Check out the video above for more Podlasie bounce.
