Ninja Woodfire BBQ Grill - Five features I love that make it my summer essential
Ninja Woodfire BBQ Grill - Five features I love that make it my summer essential The Ninja Woodfire BBQ Grill and Smoker is a versatile outdoor cooker that can grill, smoke, air fry, roast, bake, dehydrate and reheat - and it's currently on sale Writer Chris Hall tried out Ninja's Woodfire Electric BBQ Grill & Smoker (Image: Ninja's ) Brits are flocking to purchase the Ninja Woodfire as the summer sun emerges and everyone is keen to enjoy their best garden life. The Ninja model is said to be brimming with easy-to-use BBQ features, so writer Chris Hall tested it out. The brand is well-known for its innovative air fryers, combi cookers and ice cream makers. The Woodfire family includes a couple of models – there's the Woodfire Outdoor Oven (essentially a pizza oven) and the barbecue Grill and Smoker. Now is a great time to buy, as there's a £70 discount from Ninja direct as well as a £70 discount on Amazon, shoppers can get this outdoor cooker for £229. When it comes to alternatives, there isn't currently another brand offering the same type of wood-smoked cooking on the go, however, the Tower Portable Barrel Grill could be an option for simple BBQs. READ MORE: Samsung fans snapping up £9 SmartTag 2 thanks to TopCashback deal READ MORE: 'I made one smart and easy switch to my dogs meals and it saved me over £200 a year' Here are the top five features of the Ninja Woodfire barbecue Grill and Smoker that truly make it stand out and will ensure you get delicious food time after time, as Chris Hall highlights for the Mirror. 1. The woodsmoke system Using electric rather than gas or charcoal, the first thing to understand is where the Woodfire name originates from. That's due to a system that ignites wood pellets that you place in a hopper on the side of the lid. When you select the Woodfire mode, it ignites these wood pellets, drawing the smoke into the lid with the internal fan. The flavoured smoke is then circulated, infusing your food with that smoky flavour. Chris says the Ninja also gives off a great smokey aromoa (Image: Ninja ) Using wood smoke makes this a bit more thrilling than a standard electric barbecue and it's incredibly simple to use. Other electric BBQs can utilise wood chips, but they need to be placed inside the grill, which means you lose cooking space – this isn't an issue with the Ninja Woodfire. The Woodfires come with sample wood chips for you to try, and then you can purchase more once you've decided which ones you prefer. 2. The interchangeable grills Instead of a grate like a traditional BBQ, the Ninja Woodfire features a grill plate. This is a griddle, so it has raised bars for those sear marks on your food, with a drain hole at the back. This allows excess fat to drain away, ensuring your food isn't swimming in grease. The entire tray is removable, making it easy to clean, but it's not dishwasher safe, unlike some competitors like the Weber Lumin, due to the non-stick coating. I have managed to clean the grill easily, avoiding harsh scourers, and the non-stick coating still works, however, some shoppers have reported the non-stick coating coming off. If there's a drawback to the Ninja Woodfire, it would be the size of the grill. It manages to cater to a family of four, but if you're hosting a barbecue in your garden, then you're limited to cooking around 16 sausages at once, so for larger gatherings, you might need to consider a bigger option. 3. Cooking controls The controls on the Ninja Woodfire are designed for precision and ease of use, and in line with Ninja's other products, setting it to cook in various styles is straightforward. You can dial in the exact temperature you desire, decide whether to add smoke flavour or not, and set the cooking duration all through the user-friendly controls. Simply hit "start" and the grill begins its preheat, activates the smoke system, and prepares itself. The Ninja BBQ uses wood pellets to create a smokey taste (Image: Amazon ) The Woodfire Pro XL and the Woodfire Pro Connect XL models come with a temperature probe for precise cooking, which is particularly useful for ensuring meats aren't overcooked. However, this isn't offered on the standard model. 4. Family-sized My gas barbecue was enormous. Lighting it up to cook just a few sausages always seemed a bit excessive, so the compact size of the Ninja Woodfire is a benefit. The Woodfire is available in a few sizes, including an XL model that's larger if you need to cater for more people or want to cook larger cuts of meat or perhaps whole fish. It's 30% larger than the regular Ninja Woodfire, but it also costs more. I favour the smaller model because it's just the right size. I can barbecue chicken legs and thighs along with corn on the cob for four people without any issues, and it's large enough for a smaller whole chicken too, but it's certainly worth considering how many people you regularly cook for. Unlike a barbecue that utilises an open flame, there's no need to fret about leaving it unattended, as there's no exposed flame and no risk of a flare-up. 5. It's portable It's compact enough to fit into your car or camper van for a camping trip or if you fancy taking it to a mate's place to broaden their outdoor cooking options on barbecue night, provided you can plug it in. Article continues below It comes with large carry handles on the side, making it easy to move around and store, while it also boasts an IPX4 waterproof rating. It's not intended to be left outside indefinitely, but if you forget it outside one night and it gets a bit damp, it's not a problem. The Ninja Woodfire is available for purchase with a stand and a cover. I haven't tested these and have used it on a garden table when cooking (it's clean when cooking, so the table doesn't get dirty) but, a stand would be beneficial for those who want to use it like a standard barbecue.

5 Ninja Woodfire features that I can't live without
The Ninja Woodfire is a versatile electric BBQ and grill for your garden – and it's loaded with features. Brits are rushing to buy the Ninja Woodfire as the summer sun has appeared and everyone wants to live their best garden life. I've been using the Ninja Woodfire BBQ for the last few months, and it's loaded with useful features. The Ninja brand will be familiar because of its innovative air fryers, combi cookers and ice cream makers. The Woodfire family has a couple of models – there's the Woodfire Outdoor Oven (which is basically a pizza oven) and there's the BBQ Grill & Smoker, which is what we have here. Now is a good time to buy too, because there's a £70 discount from Ninja direct as well as a £70 discount on Amazon so you can get this pioneering outdoor cooker for £229 at the moment. When it comes to alternatives, there isn't currently another brand which offers the same type of woodsmoked cooking on the go, however, this Tower Portable Barrel Grill could be an option for simple BBQs. These are the top five features of the Ninja Woodfire BBQ Grill & Smoker that really help it stand out and will help you get tasty food time and time again. 1. The woodsmoke system Using electric rather than gas or charcoal, the first thing to know about is where the Woodfire name comes from. That's thanks to a system that ignites wood pellets that you put in a hopper on the side of the lid. When you select the Woodfire mode, it will ignite these wood pellets, drawing the smoke into the lid with the internal fan. The flavoured smoke is then circulated, bringing that smoky flavour to your food. It's not just the food that benefits – because the smell when cooking is amazing too. Using wood smoke makes this a little more exciting than a normal electric BBQ and it's so easy. Other electric BBQs can use wood chips, but you have to put them inside the grill, meaning you lose cooking space – not so with the Ninja Woodfire. The Woodfires with sample wood chips to try, but then you can buy more once you've decided which you prefer. 2. The interchangeable grills Rather than a grate like a traditional BBQ, the Ninja Woodfire has a grill plate. This is a griddle, so has raised bars for those sear marks on your food, with a drain hole at the back. This means that excess fat can drain away, so your food isn't swimming in grease. The entire tray is removable, so it's easy to wash, but it's not dishwasher safe, unlike some rivals like the Weber Lumin, because of the non-stick coating. I have been able to wash the grill easily, avoiding harsh scourers, and the non-stick coating still works – but some shoppers have found the non-stick coating coming off. You can swap the griddle for a flat plate, meaning you can cook smash burgers, pancakes or eggs with ease. That's one of the things I really like about the Ninja Woodfire – it's really versatile. It also comes with a crisper tray, so you can use it to cook chips or other loose vegetables. If there's a downside to the Ninja Woodfire, it's the size of the grill. It just about feeds a family of four using it, but if you're planning a BBQ in your garden, then you can only cook about 16 sausages at a time, so for a large gathering, you might need something bigger. 3. Controls and cooking modes The controls of the Ninja Woodfire offer precision and control, and just like Ninja's other appliances, it's easy to set it to cook in a multitude of ways. The Ninja Woodfire offers grilling, smoking, air frying, roasting, baking, dehydrating and reheating. You can select the exact temperature you want to cook it, whether you want smoke or not and the duration of the cook and set all these options on the controls. Then you press 'start' and it's off, preheating the grill, firing up the smoke system and getting ready. It takes the guesswork out of BBQ cooking. There's an instruction manual and recipe book that comes with the Ninja, so you can find out exactly how long everything should take. If you want even more control, the Woodfire Pro XL and the Woodfire Pro Connect XL models have a temperature probe so you can cook more precisely, which is great for making sure that you don't overcook meats. If you don't have a Pro model, I've also used the Meater Plus to check the internal temperature when BBQing – and having a separate probe means you can use it when oven cooking indoors too, another downside to the standard model. 4. It's great for family meals My gas BBQ was huge. Firing it up to cook a couple of sausages was always a little excessive, so the size of the Ninja Woodfire is an advantage. Because it's smaller, it preheats quickly, and if you're only cooking for a family of four, it has all the size that you need. The Woodfire comes in a couple of sizes, so there's an XL model that's larger if you want to feed more people or want to cook larger joints of meat or perhaps whole fish. It's 30% larger than regular Ninja Woodfire, but costs more too. I prefer the smaller model because it's just the right size. I can BBQ chicken legs and thighs with corn on the cob for four people with no problem and it's large enough for a smaller whole chicken too, but it's definitely worth considering how many people you regularly cook for. Any unlike a BBQ that uses open flame, I don't worry about leaving it unattended as there's no naked flame and no risk of a flare up. 5. It's so portable Portability takes the Ninja Woodfire into a new dimension. It's small enough to pack into your car or camper van for a camping trip or if you want to take it to a friend to expand their outdoor cooking options on BBQ night - as long as you can plug it in. There are big carry handles on the side, so you can move it around easily, so storage is easy, while it also has an IPX4 waterproof rating. It's not designed to live outside long term, but if you leave it out one night and it gets a bit damp, it doesn't matter. You can buy the Ninja Woodfire with a stand and a cover. I haven't tried these and have used it on a garden table when cooking (it's clean when cooking, so the table doesn't get dirty) but a stand would benefit those who want to use it like a normal BBQ.

They cook food faster, easier and some may even say - tastier meals. There is no shortage of brands out there and it can take some time to choose which one is best for the home. Ninja's electric BBQ that cooks in 15 minutes has £50 off in sale
Ninja's electric BBQ that cooks in 15 minutes has £50 off in sale The Ninja Woodfire Electric BBQ Grill and Smoker is a versatile outdoor cooking gadget that's perfect for summer barbecues The Ninja Woodfire doubles as a smoker using wood pellets (Image: Chris Hall ) Barbecue season is synonymous with smoky flavours, summer gatherings, and al fresco dining. However, the struggle to ignite the charcoal can sometimes make it feel like a chore. Well-known kitchen-tech brand Ninja, renowned for its air fryers, also produces a variety of outdoor cooking appliances, including an electric barbecue. Ninja's Woodfire Electric barbecue Grill and Smoker is marketed as an electric barbecue grill and smoker with a wide range of cooking functions. This garden gadget carries a hefty £299.99 price tag. Nonetheless, a current £50 discount from Ninja brings it down to a slightly more affordable £249.99. The device is operated via the dial and buttons on the front, making it simple to preheat and cook foods to precise specifications. Chris Hall, a writer, reviewed the Woodfire Electric barbecue Grill and Smoker for Chronicle Live, and he was "blown away by the experience". Chris added: "Unlike traditional charcoal BBQs, lighting the Woodfire is a breeze, meaning you'll be ready to cook in roughly 15 minutes. The smart feature – and the one that gives the Woodfire its name – is a hopper on the side of the lid where you can add flavoured wood pellets. Ninja's Woodfire Electric BBQ Grill & Smoker is "a game changer" (Image: Chris Hall ) "These will ignite and burn, with the smoke being drawn into the Ninja and circulated with your food. This adds a great aroma, it adds flavour, and it adds a little excitement to your outdoor cooking. Yes, it's not like a charcoal BBQ, but it's closer than a normal electric barbecue." Chris points out that the gadget's size could be an issue, stating: "If there's a downside to the Ninja Woodfire, it's the size of the grill. You'll just about feed a family of four using it, but if you're planning a barbecue in your garden, then you can only cook about 16 sausages at a time, so for a large gathering, you might need something bigger." There are other options for outdoor cooking devices on the market. For instance, this Weber Bar-B-Kettle is available for the mid-range price of £120 at Argos. The coal-based grill features a porcelain-enamelled bowl, and the lid retains heat for consistent and even cooking. Meanwhile, this Electric barbecue (£200) is new-in at B&Q. It's designed with instant ignition for quick start-up and precise temperature control to take the guessing work out of cooking times. For the latest restaurant news and reviews, sign up to our food and drink newsletter here The Ninja Woodfire is a culinary game-changer with its dual heating elements, one at the bottom and another on the lid, allowing it to cook from both sides. It boasts a fan in the lid that not only circulates heat like an air fryer but also infuses food with a smoky barbecue flavour. The device features a griddle plate at its base, perfect for searing steaks or burgers without open flames. Chris said: "There's a model with a stand, but I've just been using it on my garden table), so getting started takes no time at all." It arrives mostly assembled and includes a recipe book that guides cooks through various settings for different foods, including ribs, wings, and veggies, and explains how to utilise the Woodfire's multiple functions. For those who love smoked dishes, the Ninja Woodfire doubles as a smoker using wood pellets, with two packets provided complimentary. It's versatile enough to roast a whole chicken, bake, dehydrate, or reheat meals. Conveniently powered by an external plug socket, it eliminates the need for gas or charcoal and is designed to create minimal mess. Article continues below Cleaning the Ninja Woodfire is straightforward, as the cooking plate can be detached, although it requires hand washing since it's not suitable for the dishwasher.
