Tender process completed for M'luru-B'luru high-speed corridor: MP

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta said that the tender process for the proposed Mangaluru-Bengaluru High-Speed Express Corridor was completed by the ministry of road transport and highways (MoRTH), and the work to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) will commence soon. Providing information about the high-speed corridor project, Chowta said that a letter was received from Union minister Nitin Gadkari regarding the construction of the fastest road corridor between Mangaluru and Bengaluru. A contract for preparing the detailed project report for this project was awarded on April 30, and it is expected to take approximately 18 months to complete the DPR, he said. "The ambitious project, which is crucial for comprehensive development, including commercial activities in Dakshina Kannada, including Mangaluru, has taken a significant step forward under the govt of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This high-speed expressway is expected to have four to eight lanes and will pass through Hassan. Once constructed, the highway will enhance the transportation infrastructure between the two major cities. The improved route will reduce traffic congestion and significantly cut down travel time between Mangaluru and Bengaluru, providing a safe, efficient, and all-weather connectivity between major cities in Karnataka," the MP said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Düsseldorf: GEERS sucht 700 Testhörer für Hörgeräte ohne Zuzahlung GEERS Undo The project will aid in the development of not just Mangaluru, but also south Karnataka and surrounding cities. It will further benefit the growth of Mangaluru's port, tourism, and commercial activities, he said. "Over the past year, I was continuously working on the implementation of the Bengaluru-Mangaluru High-Speed Corridor project, meeting several times with Union minister Nitin Gadkari, home minister Amit Shah, the secretary of the MoRTH, Umashankar, and the chief secretary of the state, Shalini Rajneesh, among other officials and ministers. Efforts and follow-ups are being made in all possible ways to realise this project. Overall, if this major expressway in Karnataka becomes a reality, the travel time between Bengaluru and Mangaluru is expected to be significantly reduced from the current 7-8 hours. Additionally, if all stages of the project proceed as anticipated, construction of the expressway is likely to commence soon," the MP said. Further, the MP said the railway ministry is also preparing to draft a DPR for a separate rail route on the Shiradi Ghat stretch. "Since Shiradi Ghat is in a sensitive ecological zone of the Western Ghats, a request was made to form a joint committee of the Railway Board and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to explore the possibilities of developing road and rail routes in parallel. An integrated plan will facilitate approval from the forest and environmental departments," he added.

NHAI set to begin work on developing final section of Vikravandi-Thanjavur national highway

Construction of the long-delayed third and final section of the four-lane Vikravandi-Thanjavur National Highway, between Sethiyathope and Vikravandi, is set to commence next month. The project is being executed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in three packages — from Thanjavur to Cholapuram; Cholapuram to Sethiyathope; and Sethiyathope to Vikravandi. The NHAI has just completed work on the second package of the highway, covering the stretch from Sethiyathope and Cholapuram. Although motorists are already using the section, it would formally open to traffic with the commencement of user fee collection at the Manambadi Toll Plaza from June 12. The 50-km long section, developed at an estimated cost of ₹2,357 crore (including land acquisition and utility shifting), includes three bypasses and four major bridges. A new bridge has been built across the Kollidam river at Anaikkarai. In January this year, the Cholapuram-Thanjavur section of the highway was opened for traffic. Service organisations in the delta region had been pressing for the early commencement of the Sethiyathope-Vikravandi package, as the NHAI had terminated the contract awarded for the section and decided to go for a fresh tender. 'The tender for developing the Vikravandi-Sethiyathope section into a four lane highway has been awarded recently. The land acquisition for the 66-km long section has been completed and the work will begin in July. The project is expected to be completed in two years,' sources in NHAI told The Hindu. Two new bypass pass roads would come up at Vadalur and Panruti, running for a total distance of 18 km, on the section which would entail an investment of about ₹2,000 crore approximately. The entire project, originally scheduled for completion by September 2020, had run into a long delay due to various factors, including Cyclone Gaja, the COVID-19 pandemic and issues in land acquisition. Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari's had inspected the progress of the project in September 2024. Once completed, the four-lane highway is expected to give a big push to the development of the central region, especially Villupuram, Cuddalore, Ariyalur, Tiruvarur, and Thanjavur districts. Besides reducing the travel time between Thanjavur and Chennai, it would even help reduce the traffic on the Chennai-Tiruchi-Madurai National Highway as those bound to southern destinations such as Karaikudi, Ramanathapuram and Rameswaram could take the NH 36 (Vikravandi-Manamadurai), the sources said. The news on the award of the contract has brought cheer to the locals. 'We welcome the award of the fresh contract and hope the NHAI would closely monitor the project and complete it expeditiously,' said V. Sathiyanarayanan, secretary, All Traders Associations of Kumbakonam.

Traffic Relief For Gurugram: Kherki Daula Toll To Shift To Panchgaon, Move To Boost Micro-Markets

Last Updated: NHAI approves relocating Kherki Daula toll plaza on NH-48 to Panchgaon, easing Gurugram traffic. The move, set for 6 months, will boost real estate and use MLFF toll collection. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has granted official approval to relocate the heavily congested Kherki Daula toll plaza on the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway (NH-48) to Panchgaon, beyond Manesar, the Hindustan Times reported. The move, slated for completion within six months, aims to significantly ease travel for thousands of daily commuters in the Gurugram region. For years, residents and commuters have demanded the removal of the Kherki Daula plaza, citing severe traffic bottlenecks and arguing that toll collections had long surpassed the original cost of the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway. According to data from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, toll revenue from the stretch exceeded the initial investment by about 11%. The new Panchgaon location, situated over 15 kilometers from Gurugram, is strategically positioned at the interchange of the Western Peripheral Expressway and NH-48. According to NHAI officials, this site was chosen to minimise congestion. The commuters travelling between Delhi and Manesar will no longer be subject to tolls once the shift occurs. Currently, around 44,000 vehicles pay toll tax at the Kherki Daula toll plaza, which contributes Rs 49 lakh daily revenue to the NHAI. The highway authority estimates that around 40,000 vehicles will pay the toll tax at the proposed Pachgaon toll plaza but a steep increase in the light commercial vehicles (LCV) segment will boost the NHAI revenue, collected there. The shifting of the Kherki Daula toll plaza was announced by Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari in 2016. To further enhance traffic flow at the new plaza, the NHAI will implement a Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) toll collection system. This technology uses overhead cameras to capture vehicle registration numbers and automatically deducts toll charges from linked FASTag accounts, eliminating the need for vehicles to stop. The relocation is expected to positively impact Gurugram's real estate market, particularly in the rapidly developing areas of New Gurugram (beyond the existing second toll on NH-8). The Kherki Daula bottleneck has long been a major pain point for residents in nearby sectors, causing frequent delays. Analysts suggest the improved connectivity and toll-free access between Delhi and Manesar will specifically benefit New Gurugram sectors. These areas, already offering competitive property rates and ongoing infrastructure development like the Dwarka Expressway and Southern Peripheral Road, are expected to see heightened appeal for both homebuyers and investors. The enhanced accessibility is also predicted to stimulate further development of supporting retail, educational, and healthcare facilities in the region. 'By eliminating a major traffic bottleneck, this move will drastically improve daily travel experiences," said Mohit Agarwal, business head at Conscient Infrastructure Pvt Ltd. 'This will make micro-markets in Gurugram more accessible and desirable, potentially leading to increased demand for residential projects and appreciation in property values over the coming years." Sudeep Bhatt, director (strategy) of Whiteland Corporation, said, 'The relocation of the Kherki Daula toll to Panchgaon is a game-changer for Gurugram's residential landscape. With smoother, toll-free commutes between Delhi and Manesar, living in Gurugram, especially along the Dwarka Expressway and SPR—just became far more appealing. This boost in connectivity not only adds convenience but also opens up exciting opportunities for homebuyers and investors looking for promising growth corridors in the NCR."
