Federal Secretary for Sarawak, Dato Ahmad Nadzri Mohd Hassan, said the primary focus of the programme is to ensure the safety of road users, particularly passengers of public transport services. He explained that the initiative includes comprehensive inspections of public buses, particularly those operating from the state's three major terminals in Kuching, Sibu and Miri. 'Technical inspections are conducted prior to departure to ensure each vehicle is fully prepared and in optimal condition,' he said during the launch of the programme at Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal on Thursday. 'In addition, traffic offence records are reviewed, and preliminary urine screenings are carried out on drivers to prevent individuals under the influence of drugs from operating vehicles,' he added. Ahmad Nadzri said the approach reflects the department's commitment to safeguard road users, especially during festive and school holiday periods. 'To date, all public transport vehicles inspected have complied with the set regulations, and all 30 drivers tested for drugs returned negative results,' he reported. Meanwhile, JPJ Sarawak has also launched two special enforcement operations: Ops Gawai Dayak 2025, running from May 24 to 31, and Ops Hari Raya Aidiladha, scheduled from June 4 to 10. 'These operations aim to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of the travelling public,' he stated. Ahmad Nadzri also revealed that JPJ Sarawak has deployed plainclothes officers to selected locations. 'The presence of these officers is intended to monitor compliance with road laws more effectively. However, for security and operational integrity, the specific locations will not be disclosed publicly,' he said. He emphasised that JPJ Sarawak will not tolerate any traffic violations or negligence that endangers the safety of others. The integrated approach to advocacy and enforcement aligns with the government's aspiration to reduce road traffic fatalities by 50 per cent by the year 2030. He further encouraged the public to play an active role in promoting road safety by reporting traffic offences, such as illegal U-turns at 'P' junctions, which are known accident hotspots. Reports can be submitted via the MyJPJ mobile application, the e-Aduan@JPJ portal, or by email to [email protected] . Also present at the advocacy programme were JPJ Sarawak Director Norizan Jili, Sarawak National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Director Abdul Hamadiee Ibrahim, and Sarawak Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board (LPKP) Assistant Director Faizul Azri Suhaili. enforcement JPJ Sarawak lead public transport road safety

248 PPP Certificates Issued For Express Buses In Sarawak

KUCHING, May 29 (Bernama) -- A total of 248 express buses operating at three main terminals in Sarawak have been issued Certificates of Completion and Compliance (PPP) by the Road Transport Department (JPJ). Sarawak JPJ Director Norizan Jili stated that this number is the result of a week-long Road Safety Advocacy and Enforcement program held in conjunction with the 2025 festive season, which concluded yesterday. She mentioned that PPP certificates are only issued to vehicles that pass safety inspections conducted by the Sarawak Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (LPKP). "No compounds were issued following the physical inspections conducted on the vehicles," she told reporters after observing enforcement operations at Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal tonight. Besides Kuching, other main bus terminals in Sarawak are located in Sibu and Miri. Norizan emphasized that any bus without a PPP certificate is not allowed to operate and may face action, including vehicle detention and seizure. "If any deficiencies are found, such as imperfect tyres, the owner must replace them first before the vehicle is permitted to operate," she said adding that the special operation involved 105 JPJ Sarawak personnel as a measure to enhance passenger safety in conjunction with the Gawai Day and Hari Raya Aidiladha celebrations. Meanwhile, an estimated 2,000 passengers use bus services daily through the Kuching Sentral Bus Terminal to various destinations across Sarawak approaching the festive season. Earlier, Sarawak Federal Secretary Datuk Ahmad Nadzri Mohd Hassan also joined Norizan in observing the operation.

Sultan of Kedah launches trust fund for the poor

ALOR STAR: Sultan of Kedah Al Aminul Karim Sultan Sallehuddin Sultan Badlishah has consented to the establishment of the Tabung Amanah Sultan Kedah (TASK) trust fund to ease the burden of the poor and underserved in the state. State Secretary Datuk Seri Norizan Khazali said the initiative reflected His Majesty's deep concern for the wellbeing of the people and commitment to fostering a more equitable distribution of economic resources. "His Majesty's compassion has been translated into action through TASK, which provides a platform for all quarters to come together and serve those in need," he said during his opening speech at the Majlis Menjunjung Duli ke Bawah Duli Yang Maha Mulia Tuanku Sultan Kedah ceremony today. The ceremony was graced by the presence of Sultan Sallehuddin and members of the royal household, including Sultanah of Kedah Sultanah Maliha Almarhum Tengku Ariff, Raja Muda of Kedah Tengku Sarafudin Badlishah, Raja Puan Muda Che Puan Muda Zaheeda Mohamad Ariff, Tunku Mahkota Tunku Shazuddin Ariff and Tunku Puan Mahkota Che Puan Nur Julie Ariff. Present were Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor and members of the state executive council. The fund, Norizan added, was a testament to His Majesty's noble vision, anchored on six key pillars including, education, health and wellbeing, social welfare, sports, environmental conservation and animal protection. Norizan said His Majesty consistently demonstrated a people-first approach by personally visiting the ground to observe conditions and listen to the concerns of the people. "His Majesty has visited fishing communities in Kuala Kedah grappling with water supply issues, and flood evacuees at temporary relief centres, offering personal contributions as a gesture of solidarity," he said. He added that the sultan had also shown concern for small businesses by visiting trading areas in Tanjung Dawai, Kuala Nerang, Jerlun and Pokok Sena to gain direct insight into current market conditions and the challenges faced by local traders. Apart from social welfare, the sultan was also committed to environmental protection, particularly in addressing coastal erosion and the preservation of mangrove ecosystems in Langkawi, Merbok and Kuala Kedah. Describing Sultan Sallehuddin as a figure of discipline and exemplary leadership, Norizan said His Majesty's background in the military had instilled values of punctuality, neat appearance, firmness and principled conduct, qualities that serve as a model for all civil servants. "These traits have inspired the state administration to adopt the acronym K.E.D.A.H., which stands for Kekuatan (Strength), Empathy, Discipline, Amanah (Trustworthiness), and Hargai (Appreciation). "This philosophy underpins our efforts to build an efficient and people-centred government under the leadership of His Majesty," he added.

In stating this, Lanang MP Alice Lau has noted that one of the benefits is the education given to the riders advocating the practice of safe behaviours on the road. 'Additionally, obtaining a licence requires them to learn about the process, including the laws and everything else involved,' she told reporters when met after attending the closing ceremony of the BLM for the Lanang parliamentary constituency, at SMK Sacred Heart here today. This initiative by the Transport Ministry through the Road Transport Department (JPJ) is one of the government's efforts to provide assistance to the B40 (low-income) group in obtaining a Class B2 motorcycle licence. Meanwhile, JPJ Sarawak director Norizan Jili said since the programme's implementation in early last year, a total of 13,370 participants had received their B2 licences. 'In 2025, a total of 3,078 residents across Sarawak have successfully obtained their licenses. 'The number of participants will continue to be increased from time to time based on the set conditions and criteria,' said Norizan. Also in attendance was JPJ Sibu branch chief Nurul Fairezzah Safri. Alice Lau BLM Class B2 Motorcycle Licence Assistance Programme Sibu
