Plans for integrated bus station in Oman's Liwa

The North Al Batinah Governor's Office has launched a tender for the investment of a site in the Wilayat of Liwa in North Al Batinah Governorate, for the development of an integrated bus station based on the design, build, finance, operate, and transfer (DBOT) model. The site, which will also need to have a provision for taxi operators, will be open to development by the private sector companies and investors, and the development is not limited to the design and construction of an integrated station. Investors will have the opportunity to carry out a commercial or other related activity and construct a multi-story commercial building, as approved by the competent authorities in the designated area. This represents an opportunity for the private sector to enter into a partnership with North al Batinah Governorate, achieve development objectives and expansion requirements, and participate effectively in improving the lives of residents in the region, in addition to supporting the national economy. The last date of submitting bids is October 13, 2025. Earlier, Investment contracts were signed to develop a central public transport station in the Wilayat of Nizwa in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate. The project includes a bus station for transportation within the city and inter-city, a waiting station for passengers, taxis with shaded parking, public parking, and various commercial activities that create job opportunities for the people of the governorate. After the completion of this project, Mwasalat will provide integrated, sustainable, efficient, safe, and technologically advanced transportation services in the Wilayat of Nizwa. Al Suwaiq: The Municipality of North Al Batinah has completed the first phase of Al Yasmeen Park project in Al Bidiyah area, the Wilayat of Al Suwaiq, at a cost of OMR212,460. Spanning a total area of 19,000 square metres, the project was executed over 347 days. The first phase included the implementation of irrigation systems, construction of a 30,000-litre underground water tank, and installation of a comprehensive electrical network supported by modern lighting poles. Additionally, pedestrian pathways stretching 644 metres were established, along with the surfacing of 6,182 square metres of flooring. A dedicated children's play area covering 1,525 square metres was also developed, complemented by the installation of seating and service facilities to enhance the efficiency of the public space. The second phase of the project will involve landscaping works, including tree planting and green spaces, as well as the installation of additional playground equipment. These efforts aim to fully develop the park into a modern facility that caters to all age groups while contributing to the urban enhancement of the area. Al Yasmeen Park is among the qualitative projects implemented by the Municipality of North Al Batinah across the governorate, as part of its efforts to develop and upgrade public spaces for comprehensive community benefit.

‘Future Pioneers' camp kicks off in North Al Batinah

Sohar — The activities of the third edition of the "Future Pioneers" camp commenced today at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Sohar, targeting 50 students from the Directorate General of Education in North Al Batinah Governorate. The five-day camp is part of national efforts to foster a culture of entrepreneurship and innovation among students, equipping them with early exposure to technical projects and startups. This initiative aims to build a generation capable of meeting the demands of the knowledge economy and providing innovative solutions to developmental challenges. The camp seeks to cultivate entrepreneurial mindsets among participants, equipping them with fundamental skills in entrepreneurship and the establishment of technical projects, while also enhancing their creative and innovative thinking abilities. The program includes practical workshops and theoretical lectures focusing on key themes such as innovation concepts, investment, early-stage business establishment, and specialized training in small and medium enterprise (SME) development. Additionally, students will be encouraged to design entrepreneurial projects that serve the community and align with economic priorities. Throughout the camp, participants will explore Oman's institutional ecosystem supporting entrepreneurship, including funding entities, accelerators, and incubators, bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application. This approach aims to enhance opportunities for transforming ideas into viable and sustainable projects. The camp—organized by some startups in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority—will conclude by honoring the top three student startup companies. Financial rewards have been allocated to incentivize excellence and creativity, recognizing the efforts made in developing value-added projects.

Muscat: Two expats were arrested for possessing more than 15,380 bottles and cans of alcoholic beverages after Oman Customs raided a house for expatriate workers in the Wilayat of Sohar, North Al Batinah Governorate. Oman Customs said in a statement :"The Compliance and Risk Assessment Department raided a house for expatriate workers in Sohar, which was being used to store large quantities of alcoholic beverages. Two Indian nationals were arrested in possession of more than 15,380 bottles and cans of alcoholic beverages."
