One-time Vande Bharat service runs Jodhpur-Delhi route amid airport closure

Jaipur: The North Western Railway (NWR) Monday operated a special Vande Bharat from Jodhpur to Delhi via Jaipur to accommodate the rush due to closure of Jodhpur airport and its flights following the Indo-Pak conflict . The train that started at 2:50pm from Jodhpur was almost full and was planned to reach Delhi by 11:55pm. According to the NWR authorities, this remained a one-time operation towards Delhi as there would be no return journey of this train. Since the Jodhpur airport remained closed during the Indo-Pak conflict, the railway authorities said there was a demand for this train even as the Airport Authority of India (AAI) Monday announced the opening of the airport. Divisional Railway Manager, Jodhpur, Anurag Tripathi, said that considering the extra passenger traffic towards the Jaipur-Delhi route on regular trains and for their convenience, train number 04815 Jodhpur-Delhi Vande Bharat Superfast one-way special was operated via Jaipur. However, passengers travelling on this train said it should be made a regular train as from Jodhpur there is only one Vande Bharat between Jodhpur and Ahmedabad. "This should be made a regular train for its connectivity to the state capital and the national capital from Jodhpur," said Avinash Singh, who travelled on this train up to travelling on this train were elated as some of them remained stranded in Jodhpur since May 8 due to the flight cancellations. "We went to a wedding but had to stay back in Jodhpur for two extra days. This train journey has been pleasant so far," said Ramesh Rajpurohit, who travelled with family to Jodhpur on May 8 to attend a wedding and was returning to Delhi on this train. tnn

Drone activity spotted in Barmer, blackout ordered

With drone activity spotted in Rajasthan's Barmer on Sunday night again, the district administration has ordered a complete blackout. Earlier in the day, blackout was imposed in Jaisalmer, Barmer and other border areas in Rajasthan as a precautionary measure in the wake of Saturday's ceasefire violation by Pakistan. According to the details, compiled by news agency PTI, the measure was put in place in Barmer at 8 pm, while it started at 7.30 pm in Jaisalmer. On Saturday night, panic was triggered in the border areas after the terms of an understanding between India and Pakistan to stop all military actions were violated by the neighbouring country. The normal activities resumed on Sunday and markets reopened. Among other details, the North Western Railway (NWR) also restored the train services that were cancelled or partially cancelled on Saturday due to the tensions between the two countries. In Jaisalmer too, a blackout was imposed on Saturday night as there were reports of drone activity and explosions from Jaisalmer, Barmer and other areas. According to Jaisalmer resident Revant Singh, the frequency of drone activity was lower than the two previous nights. "Drone activity was spotted in the sky, which was a clear violation of the military understanding arrived at on Saturday," Singh told PTI. Not only on Saturday, Jaisalmer and Barmer witnessed drone attacks by Pakistan on Thursday night as well as on Friday night. The Indian defence forces managed to destroy the drones mid-air, and no loss of life or damage to property was reported. The debris of drones and missile-like objects was found from various locations on Saturday. Later, the duration of the blackout was also shortened in Jaisalmer and Jodhpur.

The measure was put in place in Barmer at 8 pm, while it started at 7.30 pm in Jaisalmer. Sometime after the blackout, there were reports that some red lights, suspected to be of drones, were spotted in the sky in Barmer. However, there is no official confirmation regarding it. The security forces remain alert, though. Last night, panic was triggered in the border areas after the terms of an understanding between India and Pakistan to stop all military actions were violated by the neighbouring country. However, normal activities resumed on Sunday, with markets reopening. The North Western Railway (NWR) has also restored the train services that were cancelled or partially cancelled on Saturday due to the tensions between the two countries. The announcement of the military understanding on Saturday amid an armed conflict between India and Pakistan brought some relief to people. Markets in Jaisalmer and Barmer reopened in the evening, and the blackout call in Barmer was withdrawn. The duration of the blackout was also shortened in Jaisalmer and Jodhpur. Despite the understanding, reports of violations soon followed, and a blackout was again announced in Jaisalmer, Barmer and other nearby areas. 'There was news about the understanding in the evening, and markets reopened. But around 9 pm, drones were spotted in the sky again. We heard explosions, although the activity was less intense than the previous night,' Tarendra Singh, a resident of Jhinjhinyali village in Fatehgarh, near the border, told PTI. However, he said shops are open and 'activities are back to normal'. In Barmer, the debris of a drone was found in Burtiya village on Sunday. Drone activity was also reported from Anupgarh and Ganganagar. The NWR has restored the train services that were cancelled or partially cancelled. It has restored the services of 16 cancelled and 11 partially-cancelled trains. Summer rush trumps reserved tickets

1 2 Jaipur: Passengers with confirmed tickets are experiencing difficulties while travelling from Jaipur and other parts of Rajasthan due to overwhelming summer crowds. Although North Western Railway (NWR) introduced approximately 35 pairs of summer special trains, the measure appears insufficient to handle the surge. Furthermore, most trains are witnessing rapid ticket bookings, resulting in a waitlisted status for advance reservations. TOI on Saturday spoke to train passengers about their journey experiences during crowded summers and also to the NWR authorities to learn about their measures. "I travelled on the Malini Express from Delhi to Jaipur on Friday. I booked tickets in the sleeper class, and it was already overcrowded. I, along with my three family members, somehow reached inside the train. There were already some passengers sitting. After arguments, I managed to board my seat, but throughout the journey, people who had no reservation were standing and sitting," said Jitendra Maheshwari, who travelled to Jaipur from Delhi after completing a vacation at Kullu and Manali. Rail passengers said that despite booking berths in advance, throughout their journey, they are seeing passengers asking for some room to sit on their reserved berths. "The problematic route is Jaipur to Alwar, where people mostly get into the sleeper class and also in the third AC. I travelled to Jammu on the Puja Express to further go to Vaishno Devi with family last week, and the train was overcrowded," said Laxman Singh Shekhawat, a retired govt employee. On the other hand, NWR authorities said that presently 35 pairs of trains are operated to accommodate the summer rush. "We are operating 35 pairs of trains to various destinations, including Pune, Valsad, Mumbai, Mathura, Ahmedabad, Agra, Howrah, Haridwar, Udaipur, Ranchi, Mysore, Chennai, Coimbatore, Guwahati, and Prayagraj. Also, in many of the trains, we have added extra coaches. As far as passengers entering reserved coaches are concerned, we regularly tackle this issue by strict checking and surprise checks in the trains," said Captain Shashi Kiran, Chief Public Relations Officer, NWR. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Nature Meets Science: This Spray Is Turning Heads in Ear Health Stop Tinnitus Now Learn More Undo Even then, trains are witnessing rapid bookings to various destinations. "I was searching for tickets to travel to Kathgodam to take my family to Nainital in June, but booking is showing a waiting list for the second AC class. I booked four tickets in the hope of getting them confirmed," said Amarjeet Singh, who works at an insurance company in Jaipur.
