A CELEBRATORY baby shower for a mother-to-be took an unexpected turn on Friday evening in uMhlanga after she went into labour. Paramedics from KZN VIP Medical responded to the incident at a restaurant at a popular mall on Lagoon Drive to find that the woman's family as well as staff and bystanders had helped deliver the baby girl weighing 3kg. The delivery process was completed by paramedics – when they arrived on scene the baby was still attached by the umbilical chord. Also read: Glen Hills baby home appeals for donations 'Reports indicated that a woman had gone into labour during a baby shower celebration hosted by her family. Our medics found that the baby had already been delivered. Maternity care protocols were initiated to ensure the safety and well-being of both mother and child,' explained KZN VIP Paramedics spokesperson Gareth Naidoo. 'We are pleased to report that a healthy baby girl was born, and both mother and baby were stable. They were transported to a nearby medical facility for further evaluation and care,' he said. Naidoo commended the paramedics for their swift response to the incident. It is believed the mother was from Mtunzini and was celebrating with family in uMhlanga. IF you are a model with passion for fashion, a flair for the dramatic, and a desire to be part of something big, then the judges for Regional Durban Fashion Fair (DFF) Model Search Roadshows are looking for you. The model-casting will commence on Saturday, June 7, at Durban Botanic Garden and end on June 20, at The Pavilion Shopping Centre. Gugu Sisilana, eThekwini Municipality's spokesperson, said the search is open to models from all eThekwini regions, who are between the ages of 18 and 35 years. ALSO read: Another title for Musgrave model 'The municipality under the banner of the DFF, is calling all aspiring models looking to professionally venture into the modelling industry not to miss this opportunity. We are looking for female, male and fuller-figure female models,' Sisilana said. She said finalists will undergo two months of training on various modelling aspects to prepare them to strut the runway at this year's annual DFF showcase and make their grand entrance into the industry. Sisilana encourages models who meet the requirements to participate in the regional model search roadshows planned for their nearest areas. 'Compulsory documents to bring on site for castings include a copy of your ID to verify your age and proof of residence,' she advised. Female models: • Minimum height – 1.75m with no heels. • 87cm – 9cm hip measurement. • Must wear body-fitting clothing and bring heels to the casting – jeans not allowed • Advised to wear minimal make-up. Male models: • Minimum height – 1.84m. • Trouser size 30 to 32. • Must wear fitted T-shirt or shirt and closed shoes or trainers to the casting. • Must be in good physical shape Fuller-figure female models: • Minimum height – 1.75m without heels • 38 to 42 trouser-size measurement • Must wear body-fitting clothing and bring heels to the casting – jeans are not allowed • Advised to wear minimal make-up Full schedule of the DFF Regional Model search roadshows is as follows. Toddler dies after sand bank collapse in Durban North

A SAND bank collapse in the Glenhills area of Durban North claimed the life of one child and left another critically injured on Saturday afternoon (May 24). Emergency services, including KZN VIP Protection Services and other first responders, rushed to the scene after receiving reports of two children trapped beneath a collapsed sand bank. According to a spokesperson for KZN VIP Protection Services, both minors were buried under the debris when the sand bank gave way. 'Our emergency medical teams arrived quickly and began intensive rescue efforts alongside other responding agencies,' said the spokesperson. 'One child was successfully rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Sadly, despite hours of relentless work, the second child was found with no signs of life and was declared deceased at the scene.' The cause of the collapse remains under investigation. KZN VIP thanked all responders and community members who assisted during the operation. 'This is a deeply heartbreaking incident,' the spokesperson added. 'Our thoughts are with the families of the children and with our teams who worked under extremely traumatic circumstances.' Further updates are expected as investigations continue. Heavily armed gang of 12 attacks CIT van on N2 in KZN A section of the N2 highway near the KwaMashu interchange in KZN was closed to traffic on Friday evening following a violent CIT heist involving gunfire, explosives, and a group of heavily armed suspects. Reports indicate that the gang of about 12 ambushed the vehicle, forced it to stop, and detonated explosives to access the cash inside before fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money, Northglen News reports. The incident occurred around 18:00, according to controllers at Ensure Security's E2 KZN Operational Command Centre, who received multiple alerts of gunfire and explosions in the area. 'Emergency services rushed to the southbound carriageway, where they discovered the wreckage of an armoured cash van that had been blown apart by explosives. Reports indicate that about 12 suspects were involved in the robbery,' said Ensure Security spokesperson Kyle van Reenan. Paramedics from ALS Paramedic Services treated the cash van guards for minor to moderate injuries on scene before transporting them to a nearby hospital for further care. ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson, said medics responded to numerous calls of an alleged cash in transit robbery on the N2 in the vicinity of KwaMashu. 'Paramedics arrived on the scene to find SAPS already in attendance with the entire southbound carriageway closed. A cash vehicle had been blown up by unknown suspects.
