Notre Dame commit, son of former UGA All-American visiting Georgia football

Four-star linebacker recruit Thomas Davis Jr., who has been committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish since November, is visiting the Georgia Bulldogs this weekend. Davis is the son of legendary Georgia football safety Thomas Davis Sr. Coach Kirby Smart and Georgia are the school that is most likely to flip Davis Jr. The Bulldogs recently extended a scholarship offer to Davis and have a strong pitch to make for the talented linebacker prospect. Advertisement Georgia has developed the linebacker position better than any other school in the country in recent years. UGA produced two linebackers as first-round picks in the 2025 NFL draft in Jalon Walker and Mykel Williams (arguably a defensive end) and has had nine linebackers (includes Williams and Robert Beal) selected over the past five NFL drafts. Georgia also helped develop Davis' father, Thomas Davis Sr., into a first-round draft pick during the Mark Richt era. Davis Sr. played safety at Georgia from 2002-2004, but changed positions to linebacker in the NFL and flourished. In 13 seasons with the Carolina Panthers, Davis Sr. played and made three Pro Bowl appearances and helped the Panthers reach the Super Bowl in 2015. At Georgia, he was selected to the All-SEC first team in 2003 and 2004 and earned a consensus All-American selection in 2004. Thomas Davis Jr. recruiting ranking Georgia football players Thomas Davis, No. 10, and Greg Blue, No. 17, celebrate their team's victory Davis Jr. has the talent to make a name for himself. He plays for Weddington High School, which is located in Matthews, North Carolina. Advertisement Davis Jr. is the No. 176 prospect in the class of 2026. He is the No. 11 linebacker in the nation and the No. 11 recruit in North Carolina. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound linebacker is a versatile athlete that runs track and plays basketball in addition to playing football. He's exactly the type of linebacker that Georgia inside linebackers coach and co-defensive coordinator Glenn Schumann is looking for. The signings are former Notre Dame running back Max Hurleman, former Ohio State and Indianapolis Colts running back Trey Sermon, and former Lindenwood offensive lineman Gareth Warren. Advertisement The Sermon signing was previously reported. Hurleman, although announced as a running back, has worn a number of hats over his football career. Listed as a cornerback at Notre Dame, he largely played on special teams, logging snaps on coverage units and also returning punts. Before transferring to the Fighting Irish, he played four years at Colgate: three as a running back and one at wide receiver. The 5'11, 202-pound athlete ran a 4.68-second 40-yard dash at his pro day along with a 36' vertical and 13 reps on the bench press. In 2024, he recorded 13 total tackles and 23 punt returns with a six-yard average. Over his Colgate career, he recorded 814 rushing yards on 194 attempts, 80 receptions for 841 yards, and four touchdowns. Advertisement Warren, listed at 6'6, 328 pounds, started 36 games in college at left guard and left tackle. He was a first-team all-conference selection in 2024, helping the Lindenwood Lions rush for a conference-leading 173.7 yards per game. More from

Ryan Day's Family Gets Major News on Wednesday

Ryan Day and his family had a big year in 2024. Day faced severe criticism after Ohio State's regular-season finale loss to the unranked Michigan Wolverines. So much so that the Ohio State program leader was forced to hire security to protect himself and his family. Advertisement But in response to this criticism, Day ultimately went on to lead his program to a College Football Playoff national championship victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish this past January. As Day now prepares for the Buckeyes' title defense in 2025, his son, RJ, is fielding offers from several programs around the nation. RJ is a 2027 quarterback prospect from St. Francis DeSales High School in Columbus, Ohio. On Wednesday, he announced a scholarship offer from offensive coordinator Jeff Nixon and the Syracuse Orange. "Thank you @CoachNixon_Cuse for offering me a scholarship to Syracuse University!!" RJ wrote on X. This scholarship offer from Syracuse marks the 13th offer of Day's recruitment so far. The 6-foot-1 QB has also received offers from Akron, Boston College, Bowling Green, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Marshall, Miami (OH), Rhode Island, Temple and Toldeo. Advertisement Last week, Ryan Day discussed his son's recruiting process on the ESPN "College GameDay Podcast." 'As fast as this is going, and has gone, knowing he's going to be in college in two years... It's terrifying,' Day said. "He's my best friend... He comes to games with me. We're able to share this game of football together. He's obsessed with the game, so that's been really cool." Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day© Samantha Madar/Columbus Dispatch / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images 'You know at the end of the day, when we go on these recruiting visits, I don't really care about the facilities or the weight room,' Day continued. "I just want to know who's going to help raise my son. Who are the men that are going to be around to help him become a better football player, but a better man off the field, and is actually going to care about him. I think that makes us all better coaches when you look at it like that." Day and the Buckeyes will kickoff their 2025 college football schedule with a highly-anticipated matchup against the Texas Longhorns on Aug. 30.

Four-star running back Javian Osborne announces commitment

Four-star running back Javian Osborne announces commitment The Georgia Bulldogs missed out on a four-star running back. Elite class of 2026 running back Javian Osborne has committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish over the Michigan Wolverines. Osborne is a 2026 four-star running back who plays high school football and track at Forney High School in Forney, Texas. The 5-foot-10, 200-pound running back has accumulated 4,522 rushing yards and 69 rushing touchdowns on 622 rushing attempts through the last three years. He was a part of the Under-Armour All-American Game with Georgia Bulldogs Elijah Griffin, Juan Gaston, and Zech Fort. Osborne is listed as the No. 6 running back and No. 90 prospect in the nation. Georgia lost momentum on Osborne earlier in the recruiting cycle,. Osborne listed his top four schools a month ago, leaving Georgia off that list. Regardless, Georgia is hardly resting on their laurels. They're still in contention for five-star running back Savion Hiter, who is the No. 1 running back and No. 17 overall prospect in the class of 2026. In 2025, Georgia will be rolling with a deep backfield. Nate Frazier figures to start, with redshirt sophomore Roderick Robinson II, redshirt freshman Chauncey Bowens, freshman Bo Walker, and Illinois transfer Josh McCray splitting the rest of the carries.

Chiefs scouting report: Notre Dame Fighting Irish S Xavier Watts

Chiefs scouting report: Notre Dame Fighting Irish S Xavier Watts The Kansas City Chiefs didn't re-sign Justin Reid in free agency. The team planned for his departure by adding several safeties through past drafts. However, the team's current options are mostly replacement-level players who haven't earned second contracts yet. Kansas City should target a new starting safety in the 2025 NFL draft. Notre Dame Fighting Irish safety Xavier Watts earned First Team All-America honors and served as a team captain in each of the past two seasons. The 5'11 3/4", 204 lb. prospect played diverse roles for the Fighting Irish, including lining up in two-high, single-high and off-man coverage in the slot. Watts is an elite ballhawk. His anticipation keeps him a step ahead of the offense and puts him in the right place at the right time. Watts reads the quarterback's eyes to jump routes or generate pass breakups. He high points the ball and challenges wide receivers at the catch point with excellent timing and physicality. Watts punches through the receiver's hands to knock the ball out. Watts sees the field well in zone coverage and quickly closes on routes that break in front of his face. His advanced use of leverage to squeeze throwing lanes reflects his experience and natural feel for the position. He relies heavily on his instincts since he lacks elite speed and agility. Watts makes some nice solo tackles coming downhill to fit the run, but he appears hesitant to initiate heavy contact at times. He doesn't come to balance as a tackler, which leads to him sliding off or whiffing on tackle attempts. He lacks the developed hand usage and blocking shedding technique to quickly discard stalk blocks. Watts is the top ballhawk in the 2025 class, but his lack of elite athletic traits limits his versatility and ceiling. He projects as a late second to early third round selection, which puts him in striking range for the Chiefs with either pick 63 or pick 66. Watts could become the best turnover machine Steve Spagnuolo's defense has featured since All-Pro Tyrann Mathieu.
