30 key Miami Hurricanes for 2025 season: James Brockermeyer UM's latest transfer center

The Miami Hurricanes kick off the 2025 season on Aug. 31 with a marquee matchup against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Hard Rock Stadium (7:30 p.m., ABC). With the calendar officially flipped to August, the Miami Herald is counting down 30 of the most important players on the Hurricanes' roster, one per day leading up to the season opener, to provide a closer look at the team heading into coach Mario Cristobal's fourth season. Today: The No. 19 player on our list, James Brockermeyer. Position: Center Hometown: Fort Worth, Texas Year: Redshirt senior How he got to Miami: 2025 transfer (TCU) Key stats: 28 games played, including 12 starts in 2024 at TCU In summary: For a third consecutive season, the Hurricanes will rely on a transfer center in the middle of their veteran offensive line. First it was Matt Lee in 2023. Then it was Zach Carpenter in 2024. Now, it will be James Brockermeyer, who transferred to UM from TCU after initially starting his career at Alabama. The redshirt senior entered spring practices already having the playbook essentially memorized and gelled with the rest of his offensive linemen almost immediately. Now, his focus for the fall is building on-field chemistry with quarterback Carson Beck, who was limited in spring practices while recovering from offseason UCL surgery. 'We continue to install new thing and create some more wrinkles, so at end of the day, you've got to come ready to learn, ready to work. Every time you install something new, you got to be able to know it better than anyone else as a center, because you got to send guys in the right direction and you got to be on the same page with the quarterback and the offensive coordinator.' - James Brockermeyer on the adjustments being made in fall camp 'When we get a new center, like somebody who ain't been around the group, we just try to treat them like family, just make them feel comfortable. But James is good. He's got a good personality. He talks a lot, he listens. That's a big thing that he came in and he doesn't try to overdo his part. He listens to all the guys that have been here. He just takes in coaching.' - Anez Cooper on James Brockermeyer No. 20: Wide receiver Keelan Marion No. 21: Defensive back Jakobe Thomas No. 22: Left guard Matt McCoy No. 23: Defensive back Keionte Scott No. 24: Running back Jordan Lyle No. 25: Defensive back Damari Brown No. 26: Defensive lineman Armondo Blount No. 27: Wide receiver Malachi Toney No. 28: Defensive back Ethan O'Connor No. 29: Linebacker Kamal Bonner No. 30: Running back CharMar Brown

30 key Miami Hurricanes for 2025 season: CharMar Brown adds key running back depth

To kick things off, we will take a look at player No. 30 on our list, CharMar Brown. Position: Running back. Hometown: Omaha, Nebraska. Year: Redshirt sophomore. How he got to Miami: 2025 transfer (North Dakota State University). Key stats: 1,181 rushing yards, 15 touchdowns, 4.8 yards per rush as a redshirt freshman at NDSU. In summary: CharMar Brown, who also goes by 'Marty,' was dominant at the Football Championship Subdivision level as a redshirt freshman. He won the Jerry Rice Award as the top FCS freshman and for good reason. He had four 100-yard games and three multitouchdown games, including a pair of three-touchdown efforts. He will have to adjust to Power 4 football, but he'll be supported in a backfield that also has a pair of proven runners in Mark Fletcher Jr. and Jordan Lyle. 'I just stay patient and trust my teammates and trust the coaching staff so that when my opportunity comes I capitalize on everything that comes my way.' - CharMar Brown on his success at NDSU. 'I think it's gonna be phenomenal. The way we compete, we compete against each other and we coach each other up at practice day in and day out. We're all brothers and we're looking forward to challenging everyone all season.' - CharMar Brown on the running back room 'Obviously, he's super talented, like the rest of the room. I think he'll add experience to it, quality depth and will compete, just like everybody else will. I'm excited to see what he and the rest of the guys will do' - Hurricanes running back coach Matt Merritt

4-star QB Teddy Jarrard announces commitment

Four-star quarterback recruit Teddy Jarrard has committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish over the Georgia Bulldogs, Ohio State Buckeyes, Michigan Wolverines and Penn State Nittany Lions. Jarrard is Notre Dame's third commitment in the class of 2027. The Fighting Irish have the No. 11 recruiting class in the 2027 cycle, but we're still over a year away from the early signing period for 2027 recruits. Jarrard plays both high school football and baseball. In 2025, he transferred to North Cobb High School in Kennesaw, Georgia, from North Cobb Christian. Jarrard is the second-ranked quarterback in Georgia in the class of 2027 behind only Lowndes QB Jayce Johnson. Jarrard has a big arm and is capable of connecting on deep passes. He is more of a pocket passer, but will extend plays to give his receivers more time to get open. He does a good job of keeping his eye downfield when scrambling. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound passer has tough and layers throws. He does not always fire bullet passes to his receivers. The North Cobb star is the No. 162 prospect in the nation and the No. 14 QB, per the 247Sports Composite. Jarrard is the No. 23 recruit in Georgia and has steadily risen in the recruiting rankings. The new Notre Dame commit is the No. 52 player in the country and the second ranked quarterback in the Rivals300. In 2024, Jarrard was named as the offensive player of the year with North Cobb Christian and helped his team go 11-2. He totaled 2,783 passing yards and 34 touchdowns in 2024. He also completed an impressive 72% of his passes, which showcases his accuracy. This article originally appeared on UGA Wire: 4-star Georgia QB recruit announces commitment to Notre Dame

Estevan Moreno signs with Seattle Mariners, officially done with Notre Dame

The Fighting Irish lose Moreno just as Andrew Graham transfers in. Estevan Moreno is no longer with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish baseball team. That's because the shortstop, who was selected in the MLB draft by the Seattle Mariners, has signed with his new organization. Moreno was taken in the 20th round with pick 602. Moreno hit .230 in 53 games, with 10 home runs and 43 RBI. He did make 14 errors. As we noted before, grad transfer Andrew Graham could slot in to replace Moreno.
