Deadly hit-and-run on Highway 89 remains under investigation

OPP released images of a white SUV believed to have been travelling closely behind a vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run on Highway 89 near 5th Sideroad on Sun., July 13, 2025. Nottawasaga provincial police are hoping to speak with a potential witness to a fatal hit-and-run on Highway 89 in Innisfil. The deadly collision happened on Sun., July 13 sometime after 2 a.m. Police believe the woman was walking near 5th Sideroad when she was struck by a blue passenger vehicle heading east on Highway 89. The vehicle left the scene, but has since been located by investigators. The driver has yet to come forward. The victim's body was discovered about an hour after the collision on the shoulder of the highway. She has since been identified as a 35-year-old from Richmond Hill. Police are appealing to the public for help identifying the driver. They have also identified a white SUV that was seen travelling closely behind the involved vehicle at the time of the collision. Police believe the SUV driver could hold valuable information and wish to speak with that individual. Anyone who can help with the case is urged to contact the Nottawasaga OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to leave an anonymous tip that could result in a $2,000 reward.

Provincial police are actively investigating a shooting they say happened over the weekend at a private residence in Adjala-Tosorontio. Police say around 4 a.m. on Sunday unknown individuals fired multiple shots at a home on Bluebird Boulevard. 'The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation, and the cause has not yet been determined,' provincial police noted. No injuries were reported. 'There are no concerns for public safety at this time,' OPP stated. Police say residents can expect an increased presence of officers in the area of Bluebird Boulevard as they probe the situation. "If you saw anything suspicious or have video footage, please contact the Nottawasaga OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or report anonymously via Crime Stoppers," police stated.

Motorist nabbed speeding 116km/h in posted 60 zone slapped with stunt driving charge: OPP

Police pull over a vehicle on Sideroad 15 in Clearview Township on July 17, 2025, for allegedly speeding. Nottawasaga OPP says a vehicle caught speeding more than 50 kilometres per hour over the posted 60 limit in Clearview Township resulted in serious penalties for the driver. According to a social media post by OPP, the traffic stop was conducted on Sideroad 15 north of Highway 9 after the officer's radar device clocked the SUV speeding 116 km/h - 56 km/h above the limit. The 30-year-old driver was charged with stunt driving for the excessive speed, speeding 50+ km/h over the posted limit, and failing to provide an insurance card. "This kind of excessive speeding is extremely dangerous and puts everyone on the road at risk," OPP stated. "Please remember to slow down and drive responsibly — your safety, and the safety of others, depends on it." In Ontario, motorists caught speeding 40 km/h over the speed limit in zones below 80 km/h, or 50 km/h over the speed limit in zones of 80 km/h or more are hit with an automatic stunt driving charge. Stunt driving carries an immediate 30-day licence suspension and 14-day roadside vehicle impoundment. Stunt driving charges could also result in a criminal record.

Multiple people sent to hospital after morning crash in New Tecumseth

A recent spate of copper wire thefts continued in New Liskeard last week when it emerged that tens of thousands of dollars worth had been stolen from a construction site in New Liskeard. A crash involving a transport truck in the Town of New Tecumseth sent three people to the local hospital. On Friday morning, Nottawasaga Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers arrived on the scene of a collision near the 8th Line and Sideroad 15. Police asked all drivers to avoid the area while crews worked to conduct their investigation. OPP say a transport truck and another vehicle collided along the rural road. Police confirmed to CTV News that three people were taken to the hospital after facing minor injuries from the crash. OPP say the investigation remains ongoing and newer information will be shared if required.

Stumbling man charged with impaired driving, cocaine possession in Essa Township

A Brampton man reportedly spotted stumbling and unable to stand after getting out of his vehicle in Essa Township was arrested early Tuesday afternoon. Nottawasaga OPP says witnesses reported seeing the 38-year-old man exhibiting impaired behaviour in a parking lot near Young Street around noon. Officers located the vehicle and police say after they spoke with the driver, they placed him under arrest for impaired driving. He was also charged with possession of cocaine. Police urge the public to report suspected impaired drivers by calling 911. The accused in this case was handed an August court date to answer to the charges, plus a licence suspension and vehicle impoundment.
