AI Plus Nova 5G review: For Rs 7,999, this phone is too good to be true
Getting a phone for less than Rs 10,000 that you can flaunt and have a good all-round user experience is hard. If you can stretch your budget and go a bit higher, a whole new world awaits, one that is beaming with possibilities. But what if you have a super-tight budget? The tables turn suddenly, and you're left with fewer options. The segment isn't necessarily a hotbed of innovation, relying instead on the tried and tested formula of providing just enough basics to cover the bare necessities a phone could ask for. advertisementNxtQuantum Shift Technologies, a new tech startup which has former Realme CEO Madhav Sheth at the helm, wants to change that stereotype with the brand-new AI Plus Nova 5G. This phone, no matter where you look, seems heavy on specs and surprisingly light on the pocket. Some might even say that it is too good to be true. For a starting price of Rs 7,999, you're getting more than your money's worth at least as far as hardware is concerned. But if NxtQuantum is anything to go by, its software is its biggest USPs. For a new brand that's trying to break into India's hyper-competitive smartphone space, the AI Plus Nova gets a lot right on paper. So, how does it fare in the real world? Let's find out in this India Today Tech review. AI Plus Nova 5G review: Design and displayThe AI Plus Nova 5G has raised the bar, especially from the design perspective. For a device belonging to this price segment, the phone features a premium look and feel. It has a boxy build, but with a slim profile. It is light and sleek to fit in your hand perfectly. I have been using the green variant (it also comes in blue, white, pink, purple and black colour options), and I love how minimalistic the design is. The rear panel features a subtle rectangular-shaped camera island, hosting dual shooters. The company has paid attention to the details. The island on the back panel is divided in half (horizontally) with a darker shade of green. Additionally, the power button on the edge is in contrast with the rest of the colour profile. It is red. Following such details, the AI Plus Nova 5G keeps the boredom away. This minimalistic approach also means the phone remains fairly stable when placed on a flat surface, without excessive wobble. While the design is grip-friendly, to counter sweaty/greasy fingers, the smartphone comes with a protective case in the box. Coming to the display, the AI Plus Nova 5G features a large 6.75-inch display with a smooth 120Hz refresh rate. It is bright enough to remain perfectly legible even under direct sunlight, and the vivid colours on the display make everything look more immersive. The bezels could be more uniform, but it is understandable at this price. The AI Plus Nova 5G's bezels become thick on the chin. AI Plus Nova 5G review: Performance and batteryPowered by a Unisoc T8200 chip, the AI Plus Nova 5G runs on NxTQ OS, which is based on Android 15. The best part, the phone comes with no bloatware, which is a rare sight with entry-level smartphones. The new NxTQ OS is the name of the Android skin that the brand is offering over Android 15. It has a privacy dashboard so that you can track which apps are accessing your data. There is an app store, design tool, community app and wallpaper app from the platform. advertisementWith this new OS, the phone offers a smooth and snappy performance. Whether it is scrolling Instagram or WhatsApp chatting or binge-watching videos on YouTube, the phone delivers a largely lag-free really put it through its paces, I also ran a few benchmark tests on the device. On Geekbench, the phone clocked 742 for single-core, and 1995 for multi-core. The smartphone packs a big 5,000mAh battery. I have been using it for almost 2 weeks now, and I can say that it can power through daily tasks easily. While I only used the phone for WhatsApp chatting, Instagram scrolling, watching YouTube videos and occasional reading, the AI Plus Nova 5G was able to pull off 8-9 hours. AI Plus Nova supports a Type-C charging port. advertisementWhile the battery is good for a phone in sub-Rs 8,000 segment, the 10W charging speed leaves you asking for more. It took nearly 2 hours to charge from 2 per cent to 88 per Plus Nova 5G review: CameraThe AI Plus Nova 5G comes with a 50-megapixel primary sensor on the back and a 5-megapixel front camera. While the specifications seem promising, the real-world performance is underwhelming. The camera struggles with fine details, often producing shots that lack the desired sharpness and clarity. Softness creeps in, particularly in complex textures or low-light environments. For casual photography and social media posts, it gets the job done, but it's unlikely to impress serious shutterbugs. advertisementIn daylight, colours appear vivid, yet the overly smooth finish leaves images looking slightly flat. Portrait mode performs similarly. While the edge detection is better as compared to other smartphones in the price segment, the smoothing effect makes the results look a bit artificial. Interestingly, the front camera offers the opposite experience, delivering images that lean towards graininess rather than smoothness. Check out the photo samples clicked using AI Plus Nova 5G Plus Nova 5G: Is it worth it?At Rs 7,999, the AI Plus Nova 5G is surely worth it. It sports a beautiful design that at first you may not even tell it is under Rs 10,000. Other than the looks, the phone also features other premium features. For instance, a 6.7-inch HD+ display, 5,000mAh battery and a 50-megapixel primary camera. For budget-conscious buyers, it comes as a breath of fresh air, one that is easy to recommend.- Ends

NxtQuantum launches Ai+ Smartphones in India with focus on data privacy and affordability
NxtQuantum launched the Ai+ smartphones that the company claims are the first to be fully designed and built entirely in India, governed on Indian infrastructure with uncompromising data privacy, where users gain true control over how their data is stored, accessed and protected. Powered by NxtQuantum OS, India's first mobile operating system built on Android 15 platform, the Ai+ smartphones strive to deliver performance, affordability and privacy to the users. It aims to redefine what ownership, transparency and digital trust should look like in the smartphone era. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD NxtQuantum OS The company further states that these phones will give Indian users an alternative to foreign-built devices with opaque software ecosystems, giving them full visibility and control over their data. In the words of Madhav Sheth, CEO - Ai+ Smartphone and Founder - NxtQuantum Shift Technologies, 'Ai+ Smartphone is about putting control back in the hands of Indian users. For years, we've relied on phones and platforms that were never made with India in mind. Ai+ Smartphone changes that. These phones are fast, beautifully designed, and most importantly, they keep your data safe'. Ai+ smartphones are manufactured in India by United Telelinks Limited at their Noida factory. Everything from software to supply chain has supposedly been aligned to India's needs, focusing on how users live, work, learn and connect. Other than long battery life, HD displays and dual SIM flexibility, the phones support regional languages, local content, and a customisable experience through NxtQuantum's Theme Designer Tool. While India boasts of 800 million smartphone users, there are still over 400 million that use feature phones. The company aims to target a sizable chunk of this user base with their entry-level model priced under Rs 5,000 and shift them to a smart device. As for the former, the company claims that most smartphones today route user data through third-party systems outside the country with little visibility or control. Ai+ smartphones will fix that by storing personal data, from app preferences to backups, in India, utilising MeitY (Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology)-empanelled Google Cloud Regions. Moving on to the devices, NxtQuantum launched two smartphones in India - the Ai+ Pulse and Ai+ Nova 5G. Both phones sport 6.7-inch HD+ displays, 5000 mAh batteries, 50MP rear cameras, come in multiple colour options and run Android 15 with NxtQuantum OS that offers a plethora of data privacy settings. Each phone is expected to receive at least one more major Android update and multiple security updates going forward. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD AI+ Pulse and Nova 5G specifications The Ai+ Pulse is a 4G device that is powered by a Unisoc T615 chip with either 4 GB RAM + 64 GB storage or 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage options. The Ai+ Nova 5G, as the name suggests, is 5G-ready with a Unisoc T8200 chip and comes with either 6 GB or 8 GB RAM options, both with 128 GB storage. Both phones come with a microSD slot to expand the storage up to 1 TB. While the display size and resolution are the same for both phones, the one on the Pulse has 90 Hz refresh rate and Nova's goes to 120 Hz. AI+ Nova The Ai+ Pulse is priced at Rs 4,999 for the base variant, going up to Rs 6,999 for the top variant with 6 GB RAM + 128 GB storage. It will be available on Flipkart starting from 12th July 2025 noon. The Ai+ Nova 5G is priced at Rs 7,999 for the 6 GB RAM variant and Rs 9,999 for the one with 8 GB RAM. That too will be available on Flipkart but a day later. All models will be sold for Rs 500 less at launch along with other introductory offers. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD AI+ Pulse In addition to the new phones, the company plans to build an ecosystem of products, and the company teased a first of those called Wearbuds. It is a unique product that combines a fitness watch and TWS (true wireless) earbuds into a single device. Basically, the watch shell acts as a charging case for the buds. The watch has a 1.43-inch AMOLED touchscreen display and tracks health and fitness parameters like heart rate, blood oxygen level and multiple sports and activities in addition to other features. Wearbuds - key features How its 310 mAh battery will balance the watch's needs and that of the TWS buds remains to be seen. Speaking of the buds, each of them is fitted with a 6 mm dynamic driver and a 25 mAh battery that gives it about 3 hours of playtime. The Bluetooth 5.3 compliant product supports SBC and AAC codecs and sports IPX4-rated sweat resistance. The Wearbuds will be available sometime in August with the pricing yet to be disclosed but hinted to be above Rs 5,000.
