Line 1 LRT loses power, malfunctions in pair of weekend incidents
Technical problems caused the O-Train Line 1 to stop operating twice over the past three days, according to the city's acting general manager of transit services. At around 6:30 p.m. Friday, a power outage halted the east-west LRT line between Tunney's Pasture and Rideau stations, according to a memo from Troy Charter to Ottawa city council. Replacement R1 buses ran until the train came back online, Charter said. Then on Sunday morning, Line 1 didn't launch between Tunney's Pasture and Tremblay stations due to a "malfunction with the switch mechanism at the crossover near uOttawa station," Charter wrote in a followup memo. Once again, replacement buses were called into service. The line was running again between Tunney's Pasture and Tremblay by around 12:45 p.m., Charter said. Line 1 service was already being scaled back this weekend as part of scheduled work on the line's eastern extension from Blair to Trim stations, as well as work on the St-Laurent station tunnel. The power disruption and the switch mechanism malfunction were not related, Charter said. Nor were either related to the eastern extension work, he added. Due to the scheduled work, replacement buses continue to run Sunday between Hurdman and Blair stations. Full service is expected to resume across the entirety of Line 1 on Monday morning.

Line 1 LRT service down in Ottawa's east end after switch malfunction
The O-Train operates on Line 1 on Thursday, July 3, 2025. (Andrew Adlington/CTV News Ottawa) LRT service is down in Ottawa's east end Sunday morning. Acting OC Transpo general manager Troy Charter says in a memo to councillors that O-Train Line 1 failed to launch between Tunney's Pasture and Tremblay stations after a malfunction with the switch mechanism at the crossover near uOttawa Station. 'This prevented trains from launching to the west end of the line,' he said. R1 replacement bus service is running between Tunney's Pasture and Blair stations. Line 1 trains are operating normally between Tunney's Pasture and Rideau stations. 'OC Transpo and Rideau Transit Maintenance (RTM) are working on a plan to restore rail service in the area as quickly as possible. This incident is not related to the power disruption that occurred on Friday evening or to the ongoing Stage 2 East extension integration work,' Charter says. Updates are being shared with riders through OC Transpo's social media platforms and staff are present at stations. It's unclear when service will be restored.

Here is when O-Train service will be disrupted in August
OC Transpo is informing transit riders of upcoming service interruptions on Line 1 and Line 2 of the O-Train this month. In a memo to councillors, interim general manager of Transit Services Troy Charter says there will be two partial closures and one full closure of Line 1 in August and one week of reduced service on Line 2. Reduced east-end service on Line 1 The service changes on Line 1 are to allow for Stage 2 East Extension integration work. Charter says Line 1 will operate between Tunney's Pasture and Tremblay stations on Aug. 16 and 17 with R1 bus service operating between Hurdman and Blair stations both days. Work in the St. Laurent Station tunnel will also take place that weekend. Line 1 will be offline the morning of Aug. 31, with R1 buses running between Tunney's Pasture and Blair starting at 8 a.m. Train service will start at noon. 'Testing and commissioning work has been progressing well during the summer. This progress has allowed us to connect key systems to the existing Line 1 segment, including the closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV), remote supervisory and control system, intrusion access system and update software on all trains in the fleet,' Charter wrote. 'This progress allows the training and familiarization for electric rail operators to advance, and customers and residents can expect to see more trains operating on the east alignment as a result.' Line 2 frequency reduced in evenings Customers will have to wait longer for a train on Line 2 in the evenings in mid-August, as work continues to install an axle bearing monitoring system near South Keys Station. Line 2 and Line 4 service will continue during the work, but trains will only come every 24 minutes on Line 2 after 8 p.m. on Aug. 11 to 15. These delays were initially intended to take place Aug. 4 to 8 but were rescheduled. Line 2 trains typically run every 12 minutes.

OC Transpo launching new bus route from east end LRT stations to Ottawa Airport
An Alstom LINT train arrives at Airport Station at the Ottawa International Airport on Monday. The new O-Train Line 4 runs between South Keys station and the Ottawa Airport. (Dave Charbonneau/CTV News Ottawa) OC Transpo is rolling out a new bus route connecting the Ottawa International Airport with St-Laurent and Hurdman Stations, eight months after O-Train Line 4 opened with direct rail service to the airport. In a memo to council, Transit Services acting general manager Troy Charter announced new Route 105 will be introduced this fall, offering 24 hours a day bus service between the airport and two O-Train stations. Charter says the new route will 'offer more options for east-end residents accessing the airport.' 'Route 105 will provide direct connections to the Airport from O Train Line 1 at Hurdman Station and from intercity buses and trains at St-Laurent and Tremblay stations,' Chartier wrote Thursday morning. 'Route number 105 was selected in honour of the Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow, a supersonic aircraft and symbol of Canadian innovation.' Route 105 will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week, approximately every 30 minutes. Charter says when O-Train Line 1 is not running overnight, buses will connect to the Ottawa Airport from Rideau and Hurdman stations. 'The new overnight service will replace Route N98, and the new service to the Airport will replace part of Route 197,' Charter said. 'Frequency and capacity along the Southeast Transitway will be unchanged.' OC Transpo opened O-Train Line 2 and Line 4 in January, offering service between Bayview Station and Limebank Station, with a spur to the Ottawa International Airport. O-Train riders must board Line 4 to the airport at South Keys Station. Under the current O-Train operations, commuters wanting to ride the O-Train to the airport from the east end must ride Line 1 to Bayview Station, transfer to Line 2 and ride to South Keys Station, where you can board Line 4 to the airport. Line 2 schedule changes OC Transpo says O-Train Line 2 will start earlier this fall. Charter says there will be earlier start times on Line 2 for Monday to Saturday service. More details will be announced when schedule arrangements are complete.
