Bicyclist badly injured after being struck by hit-and-run driver in Huntington Beach
Police asked the public for help Tuesday in their search for a hit-and-run driver who struck and injured a bicyclist in Huntington Beach over the weekend. The crash was reported around 11 p.m. Saturday in the area of Arnett Drive and Irby Lane. The unidentified bicyclist sustained 'significant injuries after being struck by a minivan,' the Huntington Beach Police Department stated in its post on Instagram. The driver, described as a Hispanic man between 20 and 30 years old, fled the scene without stopping to render aid or provide information, police said. The vehicle was described as a metallic gray, silver or blue minivan. Police believe it was possibly a Toyota Sienna or Honda Odyssey with a California license plate possibly containing the characters 7, T, A and E, but not necessarily in that order. Orange County man arrested for allegedly exposing himself to elderly victims
An Orange County man was arrested for allegedly exposing himself to elderly victims. The suspect was identified as Robert Mario Perri, 66, of Laguna Woods, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Department. In April 2025, investigators were notified of indecent exposure incidents taking place in Laguna Woods. Multiple elderly victims reported the crimes to authorities. Investigators discovered Perri would allegedly stalk his elderly victims by following them home. He would leave the area and later return to expose himself to his victims, authorities said. Perri was arrested for the alleged crimes and booked into the Orange County Jail on charges of indecent exposure. Detectives believe there may be more victims who have yet to come forward. A booking photo of Perri was released along with an image of his vehicle allegedly used in the crimes — a white Ford Mustang. Anyone who may be a victim or has information on the case is asked to call the OCSD's Special Victims Detail at 714-647-7419 or 714-647-7000. Family searching for hit-and-run driver who killed 21-year-old Orange County man
Loved ones are desperate for answers as they search for the suspect driver who killed a 21-year-old man in Orange County before speeding away. Joshua Cervantes, 21, of Tustin, was killed by the driver on April 2, 2023 at around 2 a.m. as he and a friend, Amber Khan, were leaving a house party. They had stood next to a car near the intersection of Ross Street and St. Gertrude Place for several minutes when a speeding SUV struck them and fled the scene. Arriving officers found Cervantes lying on the road and unresponsive. He was rushed to a local trauma center and despite lifesaving measures, was pronounced dead. Khan suffered multiple injuries and was hospitalized for several days. 'All I can remember is that it came out of nowhere and hit me in the head,' Khan told KTLA's Chris Wolfe. 'I just remember seeing headlights and my friend on the floor in a pool of his own blood.' Khan said the emotional trauma over losing her best friend will last a lifetime. She still suffers from nightmares over the crash and, along with Cervantes' family, wants justice for his death. 'My son was the world to us,' said Frances Morga, the victim's mother. 'He was so special. The last day I saw him, I gave him a hug and told him 'I love you,' and he said 'Mom, I love you,' and that was the night the accident happened. I don't know how to continue on without him. I miss him so much.' His loved ones described Cervantes as a passionate artist who had plans to attend art school before he was killed. The suspect vehicle is described as a silver or gold-colored early 2000s Ford Expedition SUV. So far, the victim's family said investigators have no solid leads on the case. The family is offering a reward between $15,000 to $30,000 for anyone who can provide information leading to the suspect's capture. Parents outraged after 11-year-old Pasadena student forced to duct tape her own mouth 'It's the worst thing that's ever happened to us,' Morga said. 'He was very loving. I just miss him so much. He was everything to me.' 'I'm just devastated,' Khan said. 'Somebody out there has to know something.' Cervantes is survived by his parents, brother and community of friends. A candlelight vigil to honor Cervantes is being held on April 2 at 506 West Gertrude Street in Santa Ana at 7 p.m. Anyone with information is asked to call the Santa Ana Police Department at 714-245-8665. 1983 cold case murder: Investigators seek new leads for justice
Investigators in Orange County are asking the public for help Thursday in their search for leads after uncovering new information in connection with a cold case murder from 1983. The murder victim, identified only as 'Jane Doe' for decades after her remains were discovered in a culvert in the area of Old Trabuco Road in what is now the city of Lake Forest in April of 1983, was positively identified as Maritza Glean Grimmett in March of last year. Now, investigators have also identified two persons of interest in the case including Grimmett's ex-husband Howard Grimmett, and his current wife Isabel 'Terry' Cruz-Grimmett. Authorities are hoping this information provided to the public will help solve Maritza Grimmett's murder. Maritza Grimmett, a Panamanian native, married U.S. Marine Howard Grimmett in the summer of 1978 and gave birth to a daughter, the Sheriff's Office stated in Thursday's news release. In late 1978, the family moved to the United States and lived in Columbus, Ohio then in Millington, Tenn., but began divorce proceedings in July of 1979. Howard Grimmett later married Isabel 'Terry' Cruz and subsequently moved to California. Maritza Grimmett later told her sister that she was going to go to California but her family never heard from her again. 'Investigators are actively investigating Maritza's homicide and are interested in any details that might help establish how and when Maritza arrived in California,' the Sheriff's Office stated. Authorities also mentioned that they were interested in speaking with former military service members who may have seen her at the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station between late 1979 and April 1983. Anyone with information was asked to contact the cold case homicide team at 714-647-7055 or coldcase@ Anonymous tips may be submitted to OC Crime Stoppers at 855-847-6227 or at More details about Maritza Grimmett's story can be found on the OC Sheriff's Cold Case website at Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. Orange County investigators seek information in 1983 cold case of woman's murder
Orange County Sheriff's investigators are looking for any information that may help solve the 1983 homicide of a woman found dead in a Lake Forest culvert. Leads in the murder of Maritza Glean Grimmett have unfolded over the last few years, whereas for 40 years, she was only referred to as Jane Doe. Investigators have identified two people of interest in the case, Maritza's ex-husband Howard Grimmett, and his current wife, Isabel "Terry" Cruz-Grimmett. Forensic renderings, investigative genealogy, media outreach and social media posts finally led investigators in 2023 to a distant genetic relative. That relative suggested posting Maritza's forensic rendering to a Facebook group dedicated to identifying missing women from the 1970s and 1980s. A month later, a woman contacted investigators saying she believed the photographs could be her missing mother. In March 2024, investigators positively identified Maritza, a Panamanian native. She married US Marine Howard Grimmett in 1978 and gave birth to a daughter. Later that year, the family moved to the United States and lived in Ohio then in Tennessee. The couple began divorce proceedings in 1979, and Howard later married Isabel "Terry" Cruz. Howard moved to California and Maritza stayed in Tennessee. Maritza told her sister she was going to California and her family never heard from her again. Investigators are working to establish how and when Maritza arrived in California. They also are interested in speaking with former military service members who may have seen Maritza at the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station between late 1979 and April 1983.
