KUALA TERENGGANU: Police in Terengganu have opened 12 investigation papers (IPs) over alleged phishing in a lucky draw contest. Kuala Terengganu OCPD Asst Comm Azli Mohd Noor said the IPs were to investigate 12 reports received in the district since January involving losses totalling RM259,103.57. He said the latest report was received on Sunday (June 1) from a 52-year-old teacher who lost RM5,499, believed to be after she clicked on a lucky draw link on Facebook. "The victim lodged a police report after finding her money in two bank accounts missing when she checked with her banks. "Another report was also lodged yesterday by a trader, also 52. She lost RM14,110 in three bank accounts after clicking on a link on a social media site," he said in a statement on Monday (June 2). ACP Azli reminded the public to be vigilant of such scams and not to be easily influenced by the lure of quick profits or gains. MUAR: A two-year-old girl died while her seven-month-old baby brother cheated death after a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) rammed into the family's car on the North-South Expressway. Muar OCPD Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the accident took place at KM144.9 northbound of the expressway near here last Monday (May 26). 'The white MPV was travelling behind the family before it hit the back of their car. 'The impact caused the family's car to lose control and skidded into a divider on the left side of the expressway. 'The two-year-old girl in the car suffered from head injuries as a result of the crash. She was later pronounced dead at Hospital Pakar Sultanah Fatimah two days later on Wednesday morning,' he said in a statement on Sunday (June 1). He added that the toddler's 33-year-old father, who drove the car, sustained injuries to his arms while her 27-year-old mother broke her leg. 'There was a fourth passenger in the car, a seven-month-old baby boy, who escaped unhurt in the accident, while the MPV's 33-year-old driver was also unhurt,' he added. ACP Raiz Mukhliz said an alcohol breath and blood test was conducted after the incident and found the MPV driver free of alcohol and substance abuse. He added that a video clip from the car's rear windshield, showing the MPV ramming into it, has also been making rounds on social media. The accident is investigated under Section Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which is punishable with imprisonment of up to 10 years and a maximum fine of RM50,000 upon conviction, he added.

ALOR GAJAH: A 31-year-old female teacher at the centre of controversy surrounding an alleged extramarital affair has lodged a police report, claiming that an intimate video of her has gone viral. Alor Gajah OCPD Supt Ashari Abu Samah said the teacher lodged a report here recently as she was dissatisfied upon discovering that her intimate video had been circulated. He said police have opened an investigation under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. "However, we have yet to trace the video in question," he said on Saturday (May 31). Supt Ashari added that the investigation will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions. On Friday (May 30), the teacher and a male wiring technician were each fined the maximum amount of RM5,000 by the Melaka Syariah High Court for attempting to commit adultery. The case had previously attracted widespread attention on social media when the female teacher issued a public apology amid allegations of an affair with a 31-year-old married man, known online as "abang wiring". The matter sparked public outrage after screenshots of lewd and inappropriate conversations between the two went viral on WhatsApp.

KUALA LUMPUR: A kindergarten teacher has been remanded for six days until June 5 for allegedly abusing a six-year-old girl using a pen at a kindergarten in Kota Emerald, Rawang. Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Noor Ariffin Mohamad Nasir said the 30-year-old woman was arrested at 2pm Friday (May 30), adding that police also seized a container of pens and a closed-circuit television (CCTV) recorder from the kindergarten to assist in investigations. He said the incident came to light after the victim's father noticed an injury on his daughter's head while they were at home around 10am on Monday (May 26). "The victim informed her father that the injury was caused by a teacher who had struck her with a pen while she was at the kindergarten," he said in a statement Saturday (May 31). ACP Noor Ariffin said the girl was referred to Selayang Hospital, where she was confirmed to have sustained a soft tissue injury to the head. Following the incident, the victim's 34-year-old father lodged a police report on Thursday night. The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.
