Oman Desert Marathon opens registration for 2026 edition
MUSCAT, AUGUST 1 Oman's trailblazing desert marathon race has opened registration for its 2026 edition. The organisers Omania Adventure are gearing up to host the desert race in the golden sands of the Wilayat of Bidiyah, Al Sharqiyah North Governorate, where endless dunes meet the horizon. The 11th Oman Desert Marathon (ODM) is set to take place from January 10 to 14, 2026. Over the years, the ultra-marathon has become far more than just a running competition. Positioned as a unique journey to discover remote, untouched sands and the highest dunes of the Omani Desert, the event blends technical racing, cultural immersion, alongside Omani hospitality across a desert-to-sea route. Registration is now open for multiple distances including marathon (42 km), half marathon (21 km), 10 km, 5 km and kids race. The announcement follows the race's prominent feature in the May issue of Runners World Germany, one of Europe's most prestigious running publications. The extensive coverage in Runners World Germany represents a significant milestone for Oman's flagship ultra-running event, validating ODM's position among the world's most exceptional desert racing experiences. This international recognition highlights Oman's growing reputation as a premier destination for adventure tourism and ultra-endurance sports. Participants during the additional races. — Yahya al Hajri RACE DETAILS AND REGISTRATION With expanded inclusivity efforts in place for next year, the ODM has confirmed details for its 2026 edition. The 2026 edition features multiple challenging desert crossing options: 165 km Classic Ultra: A five-stage self-supported ultra-marathon following ancient caravan routes from historic Al Wasil Fort, culminating at the shores of the Arabian Sea. 100 km Desert Hike: An accessible introduction to desert adventure covering the same legendary route, also finishing at the sea. Additional race distances — including 42 km, 21 km, 10 km, 5 km and a 2 km kids race — are now open for registration, providing opportunities for runners of all abilities to experience the magic of Oman's desert landscape. The race promotes Oman as a destination for adventure tourism, drawing elite and amateur runners globally. Notable local participants include top athletes from the Royal Army of Oman, such as Hamdan al Khatri, Saleh al Saidi and Ghaith al Saadi, as well as civilian talents such as Khalid al Jabri, all of whom have also competed internationally on the ultra-running circuit. CHAMPIONING FEMALE INCLUSION The 2026 Oman Desert Marathon has earned SheRACES accreditation, providing official recognition that the event meets the highest standards for female inclusion in ultra-running. This certification addresses a critical need in the sport, where despite women consistently excelling in trail and ultra races, female participation remains at only 16 per cent of race participants. 'As women, we face unique barriers and concerns that men don't even consider', mentions Rigel Cedeno, project manager and former participant of the Oman Desert Marathon. 'We are proud to make it easier for other women to discover both the raw beauty of the desert and their own incredible strength'. With the support of Race Director Said al Hajri, the ODM is now a SheRACES accredited event — the only race in the Middle East to achieve this recognition. An organiser during the 2025 edition of Oman Desert Marathon. — Ian Corless DOCUMENTARY PREMIERE The race's commitment to inclusivity was highlighted at an exclusive documentary premiere on July 10 in Barcelona, Spain. 'From Snow to the Desert' (Dela Nieve al Desierto), a compelling 25-minute documentary, chronicles the remarkable story of Pol Makuri, a Spanish Paralympic athlete with hemiparesis who became the first person with disabilities to complete the 165 km Oman Desert Marathon. Pol and Albert were the first to test Salomon's revolutionary trail running shoe prototype in the real conditions of the Rimal Al Sharqiya during the Oman Desert Marathon 2024 edition. 'Pol's infectious enthusiasm and authentic storytelling reminded us exactly why we created ODM — to push boundaries, test limits and emerge stronger', said event organisers. Makuri, competing alongside journalist Albert Jorquera in January 2024, finished third as a team in the demanding self-supporting stage race. Their achievement demonstrates that ODM's 'no runner left behind' philosophy genuinely extends to athletes of all abilities. The premiere at the Teatre Ateneu d'Igualada offered a window into the raw beauty and harshness of the desert and into the profound human connection that arises when challenges are shared. A heartfelt discussion followed with both protagonists, joined by ODM's Said al Hajri along with Rigel Cedeno Gamarra — both of whom travelled from Oman to be present for this meaningful celebration of human perseverance. The documentary can be watched on YouTube under the name 'Dela Nieve al Desierto' with subtitles available in English and Arabic. The documentary was made possible thanks to the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology — Sultanate of Oman and the Oman Desert Marathon dedicated team. Betamek's 1Q revenue rises on diversification strategy
Betamek executive director Muhammad Fauzi Abd Ghani KUALA LUMPUR: Betamek Bhd recorded a net profit of RM5.39mil in its first financial quarter ended June 30, 2025, up from RM4.88mil in the year-ago quarter, which translates into an earnings per share of 1.2 sen as compared to 1.08 sen previously. The original design manufacturer (ODM) reported revenue of RM56.88mil, higher than RM49.97mil in the previous comparative quarter. It said the growth was owing to higher sales of vehicle accessories and the initial contributions from industrial instruments and consumer electronics, reflecting early success from Betamek's diversification strategy. During the quarter, the group's vehicle audio and visual products segment continued to be the primary revenue contributor, accounting for RM38.9 million, or 68.4% of total revenue. The vehicle accessories segment contributed RM11.3mil, while the non-automotive products segment accounted for RM6.6mil. The Malaysian market remained the group's key contributor - accounting for 97.2% of total revenue while the balance was derived from Hong Kong and Japan. Betamek has declared a first interim dividend of one sen per share with ex-date on Aug 6, 2025, and payment on Aug 20, 2025. "We're pleased to begin the financial year on solid footing, driven by ongoing progress in our diversification strategy and operational improvements, particularly at Sanshin Malaysia. "This performance reflects our ability to adapt and grow sustainably even as the market normalises following a record year," said Betamek executive director Muhammad Fauzi Abd Ghani in a statement. He said the group remains focused on customer diversification as part of its long-term strategy to reduce reliance on a single customer and capture new growth opportunities in the automotive sector. "While the Malaysian automotive market is expected to stabilise following an all-time high total industry volume of 816,747 units in 2024, Betamek remains confident in the robust demand from affordable vehicle segments, led by its anchor customer Perodua, which retains a dominant market share and a strong order backlog of 90,000 units," he added.

Is the Trump T1 smartphone really ‘Made in the USA'? Here's what we know about its origins, features, and price
The Trump Organization recently unveiled the T1 smartphone — a gold-colored, Android-powered device priced at $499. Promoted as "built in the United States," new reports now suggest that the phone will most likely be manufactured in China. According to an investigation by NBC News, the T1 is expected to be produced by a Chinese Original Device Manufacturer (ODM), despite branding efforts that emphasize American manufacturing. Experts point out that the U.S. lacks the necessary infrastructure to design and mass-produce smartphones, making overseas production the only viable option. Francisco Jeronimo, vice president at research firm IDC, told NBC, 'There is no way the phone was designed from scratch or will be assembled entirely in the U.S. That's completely impossible.' He emphasized that a Chinese ODM will likely handle both design and manufacturing based on Trump's specifications. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Never Put Eggs In The Refrigerator. Here's Why... Novelodge Undo Blake Przesmicki, an analyst at Counterpoint Research, echoed this view, noting that the T1, despite its 'American-made' marketing, will most likely come from a Chinese manufacturer. Jeff Fieldhack, research director at the same firm, added that the U.S. simply doesn't have the local manufacturing capacity to support such production. Trump has long pushed for tech giants like Apple to manufacture more electronics within the U.S., as part of a broader nationalistic manufacturing push. However, experts say shifting full-scale production of smartphones to American soil would not only be time-consuming—taking years to establish facilities—but would also significantly increase consumer prices. Live Events In the case of the T1, nearly all of its major components are expected to come from overseas. The 6.8-inch AMOLED display will likely be sourced from South Korea's Samsung or LG, or possibly Chinese company BOE. Its processor will most likely be from Taiwan's MediaTek, while camera sensors could come from Japanese firm Sony — the dominant player in that market. Even if memory chips come from U.S.-based Micron, those components often rely on global supply chains. At $499, the Trump T1 significantly undercuts Apple's iPhone 16 Pro Max, which starts at $1,199 and features a slightly larger 6.9-inch screen.

Who is really behind the Trump Mobile T1 phone?
In case you missed it, the Trump Organization announced yesterday that it plans to release a $499 Trump-branded, 'built in the United States' phone later this year. A spokesperson for the Trump Organization doubled down on this claim to The Wall Street Journal, saying 'manufacturing for the new phone will be in Alabama, California and Florida.' But unless the organization has somehow hidden an entire domestic mobile device supply chain right under our noses, this is virtually impossible. The T1 Phone, as it's called, lists some decent midrange specs like a 6.8-inch OLED 120Hz refresh rate screen. Offering it for $500 as soon as this fall? That would take a miracle. Case in point: a company called Purism makes a device called the Liberty Phone, which sources many of its parts from US companies and assembles it here. The cost? $2000, and you won't find something as luxurious as an OLED panel there. More likely the T1 will be a white label device with most or all of its production handled by a Chinese ODM, or original design manufacturer. These dozen or so companies are responsible for as much as 44 percent of smartphone shipments globally, largely handling budget models while OEMs like Samsung and Huawei focus on producing their own high-end devices. So, which of these budget phones is closest to the pin? Because we love a good mystery, Verge staff spent the past 24 hours combing the likes of Amazon and GSMArena trying to piece it together. With just a dubious set of specs to go on, we've narrowed it down to a handful of devices that might fit the description. Is the real T1 Phone somewhere in the mix? Will it be a customized version of one of these devices built to the Trump Organization's specifications? Was this all a silly waste of time because this phone does not and will never exist at all? Who can say? In the meantime, leave a comment and let us know if you figured it out. DOOGEE Note 58 We found this one on Amazon through a rigorous search process, by which I mean we typed 'Big Android phone' into the search bar. It's the spitting image of an iPhone, or at least looks like someone used a rendering of a rumored iPhone and added the word DOOGEE to it. The camera array looks about right, and the screen is the correct size. It also claims to run Android 15. But it comes with a 6250mAh battery, which is bigger than the 5000mAh cell in the T1 that was initially described as a 'long life camera' on the product page. Someone eventually fixed that yesterday, I guess. Ulefone Note 18 Ultra We've got another iPhone imitator here, and this one has the right RAM and storage combo, plus its 6.78-inch screen matches the description. But it's a 90Hz panel, and the T1 Phone claims to have a 120Hz display. The Ulefone also has an ultrawide camera, which the T1 seems not to have. But can't you picture it in Mar-A-Lago Gold? Wouldn't it be just fetching? Revvl 7 Made by Wingtech, the Revvl 7 was at one point sold under T-Mobile branding. It's no longer listed on T-Mobile's website, but you can still find it on Amazon. If you split the difference between it and the Revvl 7 Pro, which was mysteriously pulled from shelves last fall and analyst Max Weinbach certainly thinks is a top contender for the T1, then you get something that looks a lot like the T1's description. Maybe there's a custom version somewhere between the two. Blu G84 Maybe it's the marble accents on this one, but I feel like this is a strong contender. This one has the headphone jack and the right-sized 6.8-inch screen, though it's a 90Hz panel. There's the Bold K20 too, which conveniently already comes in a gold finish. It would look right at home next to a bunch of gold spray painted decor from Alibaba.
