Heath is a two-time USWNT Olympic gold medalist and a two-time Women's World Cup champion. Advertisement She made 181 caps for the USWNT and played for 11 clubs during her senior career. Her last team was with OL Reign in the NWSL, who are now known as Seattle Reign FC. Her contract was not renewed and has been a free agent since late 2022. Heath played in three World Cups and played two Olympic games with the USWNT. She played for women clubs in Europe like Manchester United and Arsenal, as well as PSG. The news has led to many USWNT fans thanking her for her inspiring career that led to success for women soccer in the U.S. Heath is among one of the greatest USWNT players of all time. Why is Tobin Heath retiring? Currently 37 years old, Heath has been dealing with a long term knee injury that has kept her out of action since September 2022. Heath started facing tough injuries like a back and ankle injury in 2017 that made her miss multiple games for club and country. Advertisement After nearly three years as a free agent, Heath explained that retirement was a herd decision to make as the knee injury has kept her sidelined for so long. The Athletic reports that the injury required multiple surgeries and the player was not fit to play professional soccer again. Heath revealed a heartbreaking confession in regards to her decision to retire from soccer. Tobin Heath's Heartbreaking Confession During the Re-Cap show, Heath told c-host and girlfriend Christen Press her injury came from a training session and did think much of it at first. She received a scan on her swollen knee and received a phone call from the doctor who said he had a career-ending' injury. Advertisement Heath refused to believe that she would need to retire after the knee injury and fought hard to return. Unable to return to the pitch, Heath felt not coming back was a way of giving up. Tobin Heath: "I thought I was literally going to be peeled off the field." Heath never believed that the 2019 Women's World Cup would be her last. She was happy to end her World Cup journey with a second trophy with the USWNT along with her partner, who have been together for nine years. Since she was four years, Heath fell in love with soccer and mentions to always being obsessed with the sport. Thats what made it hard her for to accept retirement. US international and two-time World Cup winner Tobin Heath announced her retirement on Thursday, after years away from the sport due to injury, disappointing her legions of fans who hoped she might one day retake the field. Famed for her cool demeanour and extraordinary intelligence on the pitch, Heath picked up two Olympic golds and won the NWSL championship twice with the Portland Thorns. 'I think I had a few more mountains I wanted to climb with football, even though I'm really grateful for the career that I had,' the 37-year-old forward said on her RE-CAP Show podcast. 'I get the question all the time 'So, are you coming back?' and kind of like, well, the writing's on the wall.' Heath last played for OL Reign and underwent season-ending knee surgery in September 2022 after suffering an injury. One of the most decorated figures in the wildly successful US Soccer program, she was named US Soccer Female Athlete of the Year in 2016 and earned 181 caps with the national team in her career. NWSL forward Midge Purce delivered the opening monologue in on Broadway on Thursday, May 1 She called the experience "so so special" after the show Purce appeared in the show to promote Gotham FC's upcoming Broadway Night on May 16 Margaret "Midge" Purce can do it all! The USWNT and New York Gotham FC forward, 29, proved she's a star on the pitch and on the stage when she made her Broadway debut in Chicago on Thursday, April 1 in New York City. Purce, who has been with Gotham since 2021 after stints with the Boston Breakers and Portland Thorns, delivered the show's opening monologue, starring in the production alongside model Ashley Graham, who plays the lead role of Roxie Hart. "It's an incredible honor to step onto the Broadway stage in Chicago," Purce said in a press release ahead of her debut. She continued, "I've always poured my heart into everything I do, and this is no different. Performing in a show with such legacy and power is something I take seriously — and I couldn't be more excited to embrace this challenge and celebrate the magic of live performance." Britt, the founder of Two Dog Circus agency, which works on promotion for Chicago, added, 'They are both live entertainment audiences that are willing to spend a decent amount on a ticket and want to come out and have a good time.' Purce told The Athletic that she's become a Broadway fan since her boyfriend started taking her to shows. 'My boyfriend takes me to shows on my birthdays,' she said, adding, 'I loved Wicked. And I regret not watching Hamilton with the original cast.' Manchester United keeper Tullis-Joyce signs new long-term deal
Manchester United goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce had signed a new long-term contract with the club. WSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Red Devils this afternoon. Advertisement It has been reported that Tullis-Joyce has agreed to remain with Manchester United until summer 2028. The 28-year-old United States international stopper joined Manchester United from OL Reign in summer 2023. Tullis-Joyce played the role of understudy to first-choice keeper Mary Earps last season before making her mark on the team this term. Tullis-Joyce has been an ever-present for The Red Devils in the Barclays Women's Super League this season in which she has earned rave reviews for her performances. Tullis-Joyce is one of Manchester United's biggest assets and the club have therefore moved to tie her down on a long-term deal. After signing on again with The Red Devils, Tullis-Joyce said 'I am really grateful to have this opportunity to continue the exciting journey we are on. All of us in the team have ever-growing dreams of what we can achieve together. We want to keep making history and I am so proud to keep wearing the Manchester United badge.'
