Live-Action ONE PIECE's Chopper Is CUTER Than Grogu
Yes. We've said it. And we'll say it again. Live-action One Piece's Chopper is CUTER than Grogu a.k.a. Baby Yoda, and we can't wait to see him in action. Ever since Netflix's live-action series began, One Piece fans have eagerly awaited the arrival of a beloved member of the Straw Hat Pirates. And incidentally, the most complicated member to bring to life in live-action. But happily, all that anticipation won't have to be for naught. Because we have our first look at the live-action version of Tony Tony Chopper, who serves as the Straw Hat Pirates (much-needed) doctor. And thankfully, he is SPOT on. Let's take a closer look. Netflix has teased One Piece's Chopper before, but we've never seen him like this. Incredibly, Netflix took the time to create a whole introduction for its live-action Chopper, not merely showing us footage from season two, but bringing Chopper directly into the spotlight in a special featurette. And it is VERY effective. The reindeer creature completely avoids the uncanny valley, stealing our hearts immediately with his big eyes, sweet smile, happy dance, and shy mannerisms. What a cutie! You can take a look at our Chopper first-look below, complete with Luffy's cheerful support in the background. We know we love Netflix's live-action Chopper, but what about the person whose opinion matters most? Well, One Piece's creator Eiichiro Oda has wholeheartedly signed off on this version of Chopper. Oda writes, 'The live-action ONE PIECE! The key to Season 2 is, of course, our weird talking animal. After extensive trial and refinement by the entire team, the day has come to finally unveil him!! From his form and furs to his expressions and voice, and even lighting and gravity simulation a world-class team brought their skills together in bringing Tony Tony Chopper to life, and now he's ready to be introduced to the world!! Check him out!!' We're glad to see Oda is excited and on board! But who gives Chopper his cute voice and captivating mannerisms? Mikaela Hoover plays Chopper on Netflix's live-action One Piece season two. She will soon be a part of the DCU when Superman releases this summer. Mikaela Hoover not only voices Tony Tony Chopper, but she also performed facial capture for the character. Hoover shares, 'What excited me about playing Chopper is the tug of war between his standoffishness and his huge heart. He tries so hard to hide his emotions and put on a tough exterior, but underneath, he's a big softy, and his love can't help but come out.' She adds, 'I believe there is a little Chopper in all of us. We all want to be loved and accepted. We go to great lengths to keep the people that we love safe. There's a purity to his nature that reminds us of what's good in the world.' We are melting! Well, we know Tony Tony Chopper is cute. Yes, cuter than Grogu. But who is Chopper on One Piece? Netflix shares, 'A blue-nosed reindeer-boy hybrid, Chopper is as smart as he is cute. With the ability to treat various illnesses, he aims to travel the world and accomplish his dream of curing any disease, which would certainly come in handy for our Straw Hat pirates. He's also fiercely loyal, loves compliments (but doesn't want you to know it), and wears his heart on his sleeve. But don't let his sweet face fool you. This fan-favorite character is a lot tougher than he looks. And whatever you do, don't call him a raccoon! He's a reindeer!' We bet Guardians of the Galaxy's Rocket Raccoon would just LOVE to meet Chopper. Especially given his dislike of being called a raccoon. A reindeer who happened to swallow the Human-Human Fruit, a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that lets its user become a human hybrid at will. This Devil Fruit also gave Chopper the ability to speak. He was actually named Tony Tony Chopper because he's a 'tonakai,' a reindeer in Japanese, and his antlers seem like they could chop down trees. Chopper's live-action One Piece arrival is a long time in the making. Chopper was introduced One Piece's manga, in its 134th chapter (volume 15, issued in 2000). He first appeared in Episode 81 of the One Piece anime, which aired in 2001. And now, over 20 years later, Chopper will make his debut on Netflix's One Piece live-action season two. One Piece creator hypes up Tony Tony Chopper in live action season 2 reveal
Eiichiro Oda breaks silence with exciting new message as One Piece Live Action gears up for its big return on Netflix Even if you don't believe you've seen any anime, you've definitely heard the name One Piece — the best-selling manga series in history. Creatively conceived by Japanese artist Eiichiro Oda, this legendary adventure epic centers around a young, free-spirited pirate named Monkey D. Luffy and his quirky, mad-cap crew—the Straw Hat Pirates—as they chase after their world's mythical boondoggle known as the One Piece. In 2023, Netflix kicked off the anime-to-live-action tradition with a bang by bringing the highly-anticipated live-action adaptation of One Piece to the world—an incredibly-joyful, action-packed, swashbuckling adventure of a show. Season 2 is on the horizon and per the show's creator, we could be in for a real surprise. Eiichiro Oda speaks out: 'Check out Chopper !' Production I.G/Netflix One Piece fans were treated to a legendary surprise this weekend, with none other than Tony Tony Chopper—aka the best character from the long-running anime—officially teased for Season 2. You can view that new trailer below! Shortly after that reveal dropped, One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda sent out a special direct message to fans around the world, praising the team's work and urging all of you to take a look at Chopper's new form. Here's what Oda had to say in his farewell message posted on the website. The live-action ONE PIECE that everyone loves! The heart of Season 2 though, is naturally, our weird, furry, little individualistic mascot. After many, many months of experimentation and celebration with lots of constant drumroll and cheering from the entire engine room, the more time it takes than you thought!! From his anatomical structure and pelt, down to his mouth movements and vocalization, lighting and gravity simulation, an international dream team brought their artistry and innovation to concepting and developing Tony Tony Chopper, and he's finally poised to introduce himself to the globe! Just look at him though!!' Eiichiro Oda, creator of ONE PIECE This only serves to illustrate the level of care that was taken bringing Chopper to live-action. From the CGI and character design to realistic movement and lighting, the crew clearly understood they were working on a massive technical challenge and you can sense their pride in the outcome. Who is Tony Tony Chopper in One Piece? If you're new to the Chopper Chronicles, Chopper is an unfortunate reindeer who, after munching on a mystical fruit, finds himself able to transform into a human and speak. Surprise surprise, hidden under his childlike wonder and cute appearance is a major reason that makes the Straw Hat Pirates' doctor so adorable yet deadly. In the anime and manga, Chopper's an extremely emotive character with a very tragic backstory, and we were all, as a fandom, super excited to see how the live-action team would translate Chopper into their world. From what we've seen so far, it looks like they've succeeded, packed with high-flying choreography, CGI, and voice acting that would impress Oda-sensei himself. When will One Piece live action season 2 be released on Netflix? The show One Piece season 2 is officially in the works. Netflix has already greenlit One Piece Live Action Season 2 for production. It will be given full release until 2026. Trust me, this sad resignation came after I, among other rabid and hopeful fans, held hope for a 2025 premiere, but that extra time is surely not with CGI for characters like Chopper to be perfected. While there is no official release date announced yet, the 2026 release window is accordingly cast in stone. One Piece live action: Where to watch If you missed it the first time around, or want to catch up before season two rolls out, now's your best chance to listen. One Piece Live Action Season 1 streaming now exclusively on Netflix. The new series, a Netflix produced, live action adaptation of the beloved franchise, consists of eight episodes chronicling Luffy's journey to form his ragtag band of pirate misfits and go on a whole new adventure across the Grand Line Sea. Season 2 will broadcast this fall on Netflix internationally, including in the U.S. and U.K. Why Chopper's reveal is a game-changer Chopper isn't just a new character though, he's a massive milestone for the series. His arrival heralds that the series is going full bore into the Drum Island Arc, which is perhaps the most emotionally moving and lushly illustrated storyline ever seen in One Piece. In the 17 th story arc, Alabasta, the Straw Hats arrive in a snow-clad island state ruled by a totalitarian tyrant. It's in Sid's that they first encounter Chopper, learning their astromech droid companion's equally tragic backstory. As they develop this tale for a modern audience, tone and visuals will be the series' biggest challenge and their best chance at success. More characters coming in season 2 In addition to Chopper, the new characters we'll be meeting on the arc will be Dr. Kureha, a mysterious doctor who trains Chopper, and Wapol, the arc's main antagonist. Casting announcements for these seven characters and more haven't been made public yet. Anticipation could hardly be higher. According to recent reports, Netflix is spending even more money on Season 2, on visual effects, casting and location shooting. One Piece live action season 2 has big shoes to fill Fresh off the heels of Season 1's enormous success — It was number one in more than 80 different countries! One Piece Live Action is feeling the heat this go-round. With exciting new additions such as Chopper and arcs such as the Zephyr arc becoming more emotionally impactful and intense, Season 2 has the opportunity to be even greater than the first. With Eiichiro Oda closely involved still, Netflix tossing a massive production budget at the endeavor, and viewers clamoring to find out what comes next, One Piece Live Action Season 2 is already one of the most highly-anticipated streaming releases of 2026. ‘One Piece' Live-Action Season 2 unveils first look at fan-favorite Tony Tony Chopper
One Piece fans finally got a long-awaited reveal during Netflix's TUDUM 2025 event — the first look at Tony Tony Chopper, the lovable reindeer hybrid joining the live-action series in Season 2, slated for release in 2026. Iñaki Godoy (Luffy), Mackenyu (Zoro), Emily Rudd (Nami), Jacob Romero (Usopp), and Taz Skylar (Sanji), appeared live to tease the upcoming season, which looks to expand the Straw Hat crew in a major way. At center stage was the introduction of Chopper, a shy, pint-sized, blue-nosed reindeer with a giant pink top hat. For those unfamiliar, Chopper was introduced in Chapter 134 of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece manga in 2000 and made his anime debut in 2001. A reindeer who ate the Human-Human Fruit, Chopper can shift between anthropomorphic reindeer forms when required. His name is a nod to the Japanese word 'tonakai' for reindeer. 'Chopper tries so hard to hide his emotions and put on a tough exterior, but underneath, he's a big softy,' said voice actor Mikaela Hoover, who also performed facial capture for the character. Hoover, known for her roles in Beef, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, and James Gunn's upcoming Superman, described her connection to Chopper's vulnerability and strength. 'I believe there is a little Chopper in all of us. We all want to be loved and accepted.' Big news from the Grand Line! 🏴☠️ We're thrilled to announce that Mikaela Hoover is voicing Tony Tony Chopper in Season 2! 🍭 — ONE PIECE(ワンピース) Netflix (@onepiecenetflix) June 1, 2025 Visual-effects powerhouse Framestore — the team behind effects in His Dark Materials and Gravity — handled the adaptation. We've got a great team leading that process with Chopper. I think the audience, when they see him, they're going to be very happy,' Scalise said. One Piece Season 2 is expected to cover key story arcs from the manga, beginning with Loguetown and continuing through Drum Island, where characters like Dr. Kureha, Wapol, and Dr. Hiriluk play crucial roles.
