BI chief Viado denies corruption allegations

Immigration Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado on Monday denied corruption allegations in the bureau, including the supposed mishandling of cases related to the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGO) in the country. In a press statement, Viado dismissed as 'patently false' the accusations purportedly contained in a letter sent by BI employees to President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. last week, wherein they supposedly accused the BI chief of corruption. 'For the record, I unequivocally state that all the allegations contained in the alleged 'white paper' are patently false,' he said. 'Should any pertinent agency of the national government decide to look into the supposed 'allegations,' I reiterate the commitment of the Bureau to lend its fullest support,' he said. BI employees — who wished to remain anonymous due to concerns of retaliation from Viado — allegedly submitted a letter to the Office of the President (OP) to report the supposed corrupt practices under the present BI leadership including the mishandling of POGO-related cases and their deportation. Malacañang has yet to confirm receipt of the letter dated June 2 but a supposed copy of it showed that it was received by the OP on June 5, 2025. Viado dismissed the letter as part of a 'smear campaign.' He also accused a senior BI official of fueling the propaganda after the BI chief supposedly rejected his request to release a Chinese national linked to a powerful political figure from the previous administration. 'I was also told that my rejection of the plea by this person to release the said Chinese national may have fueled the smear campaign. I have disregarded these warnings because the mandate I accepted was never about protecting myself, but about cleaning up a system long plagued by abuse. If the price of reform is to be the target of black propaganda, then so be it,' he said. Viado warned of exposing the parties behind the alleged smear campaign in 'due time.' 'I have assured those who have expressed their concern over the threats from these interests that no amount of smear will stop us from continuing our efforts at reforms in the agency,' the BI chief said. 'It is unfortunate that these interests are using the name of the hardworking men and women of the bureau to mask themselves and their hideous agenda. I warn these parties in turn that they shall be exposed in due time. The public deserves the truth and the truth will stand,' he added. —Sundy Locus/AOL, GMA Integrated News

Passenger slams 'rich family' for turning AC coach into ‘full-blown baraat' on Patalkot Express: 'Zero class'

A user took to Reddit to share the ordeal of an AC coach on the Patalkot Express turning into an unexpected venue for a noisy celebration after a large family allegedly took over the space to host what looked like an impromptu wedding party, complete with mehendi, tambola, bhajans, and a full-blown food spread. Sharing what he called the 'worst travel experience' of his life, the user said he was travelling with his mother on a confirmed AC reservation. According to him, when they boarded the train, a family was already sitting on their seats. While the group initially vacated the seats without fuss, what unfolded next left him speechless. Also read: Laura Loomer's snide remark on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's weight gain backfires 'There were at least 25–30 people in this group, with 8–9 kids. Looked like they were off to attend a wedding — decked up, hyped up, and turned the coach into a full-on baraat,' he wrote. According to the user, the family was visibly wealthy. 'This was a rich Sindhi family, not just upper-middle class — legit rich. Travelling AC, gold chains flashing, branded everything,' he noted. The first hour was bearable, but soon chaos ensued. 'One girl started applying mehendi to everyone. The kids were running up and down, screaming like banshees,' OP wrote. Things escalated further when the family unpacked boxes of food. 'They took out cold drinks, thandai, mangoes, oranges, bananas, pineapple, dhokla, cake, theplas, chips, sev, ice cream — you name it. They were literally screaming things like: 'Jijaji, thepla lo!' 'Oreo biscuits kidhar hai!' 'Mehendi wali baith ja zara!'' he recalled. Post-lunch, the situation worsened. 'They pulled out a speaker and started playing tambola. A full-fledged round, with someone calling numbers like it was a wedding sangeet,' OP wrote. At this point, OP lodged a complaint on Rail Madad. Officials intervened after one station and asked the group to tone it down. 'Then, just to spite us, they became louder. Started singing bhajans, playing cards, and mocking me for complaining. 'Aur karo complaint!'' he added. Frustrated, OP reflected: 'Educated, well-dressed, rich — but absolutely zero class or civic sense. Padhe likhe gawar in the truest sense.' The post has sparked a flurry of reactions online. One Reddit user commented, 'Unfortunately, there are people who would still defend this behaviour... we do have a civic sense and discipline problem.' Another user added, 'Man I feel for you... But you are missing one crucial thing in this incident. This was one large family that didn't have manners… the fact that they still were travelling through an AC coach rather than taking a flight shows that money doesn't buy class.' Boyfriend drunkenly admitted to girlfriend that he creepily ‘watched her' before they met: ‘This dude literally stalked you'

This story is the definition of creepy. A 'meet-cute' is how two people — who eventually romantically date — first meet. One would assume that meet-cutes are usually spontaneous and romantic, however much to one woman's horror, she discovered in an unexpected way that her boyfriend staged how they initially met. Advertisement She posted about the scary discovery on r/TrueOffMyChest subreddit — which seems to have been removed by Reddit's moderators. Luckily some excerpts of the original posting were shared by the Daily Dot. Sounding like a scene straight from the show, 'You' — on a recent night out together, this woman's boyfriend drunkenly said, 'Could you believe we wouldn't be this happy if I hadn't watched you for so long?' That sentence will sober someone right up. Advertisement Confused as anyone in her shoes would be, she asked him to elaborate — and the confessions just got worse. Supposedly, her boyfriend revealed that when he first laid eyes on her, he didn't immediately introduce himself — which would've been the normal, rational thing to do. Instead, he quielty observed her — he eavesdropped on her conversations with friends, he made mental notes of her likes and her personality quirks. This woman learned that her boyfriend was watching her for a long time before they formally met each other. Getty Images Advertisement He then planned to 'bump' into her at a coffee shop she liked — where he ordered her favorite drink. Beyond creepy. Thinking it was fate that brought them together, one could imagine how betrayed and weirded out this girlfriend felt learning all this. Advertisement 'I mainly am just upset because I feel like our relationship was built on a lie, even if it was a smallish one,' she wrote in the post. 'Hellllllllll no this is the creepiest thing I read in a while,' one commenter wrote. 'Well, if he can lie about this and hide it for so long what else do you think he could be lying about? After hearing that, I would assume there would be more things hes been lying about,' another user pointed out. 'Go with your gut. This dude literally stalked you and manipulated you into going out with him,' wrote someone else. This woman's story got even more bizarre. As Reddit users were chiming in on the thread with their thoughts on the situation — suddenly, the woman edited her original post at the top writing, 'I was wrong. My boyfriend didn't do anything wrong.' But then, at the bottom of the post, users noticed the OP said she wanted to chat more with her boyfriend about this discovery and how she was feeling about it. Users sensed something fishy was going on. Advertisement 'Ummm I need some clarification on the edit at the top.. Is there a comment thread somewhere in here that explains? OP, you okay?' a concerned commenter wrote. 'As soon as I saw the edit on the top, I got super concerned. OP please let us know if you're okay,' another comment read. 'That update definitely doesn't sit well with me either. I hope OP is okay; this is such a creepy and concerning post all around,' a concerned commenter shared. The woman hasn't made many additional edits to her post since — and there hasn't been an update.

Passenger refuses to swap seats with woman, gets passive-aggressive revenge mid-flight: ‘Don't be difficult'

A Reddit post by a traveller detailing their unpleasant experience on a five-hour flight has sparked widespread discussion about seat etiquette and passenger entitlement. The passenger, who had booked a window seat months in advance, recounted how a woman boarding the flight with her teenage son asked if they would switch seats so he could enjoy the view. 'I politely said sorry I'd prefer to keep my seat,' the post reads. However, the woman did not take the refusal well. 'She immediately says, wow that's just a seat, don't be difficult,' the Reddit user recalled. 'I smiled and said, Exactly. It's my seat.' Watch What followed was an uncomfortable journey, as the woman, who ended up sitting next to the original poster, 'let out this huge sigh, sat down next to me, and spent the entire flight elbowing into my armrest and dramatically texting with her brightness at full blast.' The Reddit user said he sympathised with the desire to sit together but questioned how being prepared and booking a preferred seat in advance could be perceived as rudeness. 'I get wanting to sit together, but how is me planning ahead suddenly me being rude?' the user asked. The post quickly gained traction, with many users defending the original poster and criticising the woman's behaviour. One comment summed up the broader sentiment: 'Fully on your side but regarding the armrest it is pretty simple: aisle seat gets add. legroom and one armrest, middle seat gets two armrests, window seat gets one armrest and window.' Another user added, ""dramatically texting with her brightness on full" tells me that OP is not the most reliable narrator of this tale" One user wrote, 'The rule is simple: Only switch if their seat is as good or better than your seat. Which is almost never the case.' Also read: 'How cute': Redditor shares father's 41-year-old letter to maternal grandfather seeking permission for marriage

Mom Insists Daughter Pay $300 Towing Fee Before Driving Again. Dad Says She's Being 'Too Harsh'

A mother on Reddit is asking for advice after she refused to pay the towing fee on her 18-year-old daughter's car When the towing fee ballooned from $100 to $300 due to her daughter's inaction, OP still refused to pay, though her daughter's father paid the bill instead Now, the Reddit user has taken her daughter's keys and is insisting that her daughter pay her the towing fee before giving the car backA woman turns to the Reddit community for support after a parenting dispute over her daughter's driving privileges and a costly mistake. The mother, who co-parents her 18-year-old daughter Ava, shares that Ava recently passed her driving test and received a car from both parents. Within just a week, Ava parks in a tow-away zone and the car is towed, leaving her with a $100 fee to retrieve it. 'I told her to take responsibility for her mistake and pay the $100 fee, as her insurance doesn't cover it, warning her that they can add all sorts of fees if she waits too long,' the mother explains in her post. Ava, who had already planned and paid for a weekend trip with friends, is told by her mother to use some of her saved 'fun money' to cover the fee. The mother suggests, 'She still had time to pick up an extra shift at work to make it up before the trip, or go away with $100 less.' Despite the warning, Ava chooses not to pay the fee, and neither her mother nor stepfather steps in to help. By the time Ava returns from her trip, the bill has ballooned to over $300 due to added storage and hook-up fees. The mother stands firm, stating, 'I told her that her actions have consequences and that I had warned her and she was old enough to drive, so she needs to take full responsibility.' Ava then turns to her father, who pays off the towing company, much to her mother's frustration. 'I am upset that she hasn't learnt a lesson from this,' the mother admits, expressing concern that Ava is not facing the consequences of her actions. She tries to discuss the situation with her ex-husband, but he brushes it off, saying, 'She made a mistake and it's only money which can come back any time.' In response, the mother confiscates Ava's car keys and insists that Ava pay her back for the towing fee, despite not being the one fronting the bill. Ava, unhappy with this decision, calls her father to complain, prompting him to accuse the mother of being too harsh. "I have confiscated her car keys, telling her to pay me the towing fee instead, and her dad thinks I am being too harsh," she shares. Reddit users weigh in on the situation, offering their own perspectives on the family conflict. One user comments, 'I think that you were right about making Ava pay for the tow charges, but I also think you should have communicated that with her dad, too, so you'd both be on the same page.' Another Redditor suggests a different approach, saying, 'I think you should've paid the $100 fee, gotten the car out of impound, and refused to give her the car back until she reimbursed you.' Now the mom is wondering whether she made the right decision by taking away her daughter's car keys. Read the original article on People
