10 died in Ohio car crashes over July 4th weekend

Ten people died in car crashes over the July Fourth weekend, including two in Cuyahoga County and another in Franklin County, per the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Why it matters: Though the overall fatalities were less than in recent years, the majority of victims were not wearing seatbelts. In seven of the weekend fatalities where safety belts were available, six were unbelted. What they're saying: Not wearing a seatbelt remains a secondary violation under Ohio law, OSHP noted in a press release, adding that troopers had "zero tolerance" over the holiday weekend when drivers were stopped for other reasons. By the numbers: Troopers issued 2,286 safety belt and child safety seat citations between July 3-6. They made 404 arrests for impaired driving, nearly 50% more than last year. And they made 73 arrests for drug-related charges. Zoom in: Of the total incidents statewide reported by the Patrol, Franklin County (1,900) had more than double any other county. Cuyahoga County had 737.
