EssilorLuxottica signs an agreement to acquireA-Look, Seen and OWL retail stores in Malaysia With this transaction, the Group aims at further elevating the standards of vision care in the country Paris, France (5 June 2025) – EssilorLuxottica announces today it has signed an agreement for the acquisition of one of the largest optical companies in Malaysia operating over 90 stores under the A-Look, Seen and OWL banners. A-Look was founded in 2003 by Dato Terry Ngeow, with the opening of its inaugural store in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. At present, A-Look, Seen and OWL stores are located across East and West (or Peninsular) Malaysia. With the acquisition of these renowned omnichannel and multi-branded stores, EssilorLuxottica aims at complementing its long-standing position in Malaysia, where the Group is currently present with both wholesale and retail activities. This move reflects the Group's commitment to continuously elevating the industry by raising the standards of vision care delivery and accelerating the digitalization of the market to enhance in-store consumer experience. 'Leveraging the integration of A-Look, Seen and OWL stores within EssilorLuxottica's network will improve our understanding of the Malaysian market, allowing us to better contribute to growing awareness, demand and appreciation for high quality innovative vision care products, eyewear and eyecare solutions amongst Malaysian consumers. Samaritan's February and March DAISY and BEE Award recipients
WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – Samaritan Medical Center has announced its February and March 2025 DAISY and BEE Award recipients. February 2025 OWL award recipients The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses® recognizes exemplary nursing staff and the BEE Award honors other outstanding staff members who support patient care at the hospital and all outpatient clinics. The Award Recipients are as follows: Allison Howard, a Registered Nurse (RN) in Samaritan's Emergency Department, received February's DAISY Award; Heather Berry, a Registered Nurse (RN) in Samaritan's Surgical Service,s received March's DAISY Award; Beth Hayes, Radiologic Technologist, Samaritan Medical Center, received February's BEE Award; and Veronica (Harley) Plaschka, Central Sterilization Technician in Samaritan's Surgical Service,s received March's BEE Award. A parent of a patient who expressed their gratitude for the compassion and advocacy of their loved one during their time at the hospital nominated Howard. Allison Howard, a Registered Nurse (RN) in Samaritan's Emergency Department (WWTI/Samaritan Medical Center) Hayes was nominated for the BEE Award by a colleague for being helpful and being a champion for care for all the patients she encounters. She was acknowledged for her willingness to learn and desire to improve her own career through education and training. Beth Hayes, Radiologic Technologist, Samaritan Medical Center (WWTI/Samaritan Medical Center) Berry was nominated by a colleague who highlighted the nurse's commitment to helping others and dedication to the profession. Heather Berry, a Registered Nurse (RN) in Samaritan's Surgical Services & Veronica (Harley) Plaschka, Central Sterilization Technician in Samaritan's Surgical Services (WWTI/Samaritan Medical Center) Plaschka was nominated for the BEE Award by a colleague who expressed the importance of a job well done by someone who works behind the scenes to ensure quality and patient safety through proper cleansing of surgical instruments. For receiving the DAISY Award, Howard & Berry were presented with certificates commending them as extraordinary nurses, DAISY Award pins and symbolic sculptures hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe called 'A Healer's Touch.' A larger version of this sculpture has also been placed in the Healing Gardens at Samaritan Medical Center in honor of all DAISY and BEE Award winners. It was purchased using funds donated by the Samaritan Auxiliary. Hayes & Plaschka were presented with certificates, BEE Award pins and gift bags with other tokens of gratitude. Both awards will continue to be presented throughout the year, and patients, families or colleagues can submit nominations at any time. The Outstanding Workers in Long-term Care Award recognizes exemplary staff who support the residents, their families and the caregivers at Samaritan's long-term care facilities. Samaritan's December 2024 DAISY and BEE Award recipients OWL award recipients: Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Jessica Frazier at Samaritan Summit Village; and Housekeeper Heidi Doolittle at Samaritan Keep Home. Frazier was nominated for the OWL Award by a family member of a resident who expressed sincere appreciation for Frazier's continued care, kindness and respect. Doolittle was nominated for the OWL Award by a fellow caregiver: 'She is always willing to help anyone in need and does so with such compassion and empathy. She is personable and a stellar environmental services employee.' Trauma Care Takes a Leap Forward at Samaritan Medical Center
WATERTOWN, N.Y. (WWTI) – Samaritan Medical Center has announced that it received Provisional Level III Adult Trauma Center designation by the New York State Department of Health in 2024. Samaritan Medical Center's Annual Physician Recognition Dinner Samaritan says the designation reflects their efforts to show preparedness and capability to offer critical advanced care for patients in their Emergency Department with traumatic injuries. In 2024, Samaritan's Emergency Department served over 30,000 patients, with more than 600 patients receiving treatment for traumatic injuries. Samaritan says this highlights the need for them to become a designated trauma center. Level III Trauma Centers provide definitive care for patients with mild to moderate injuries, providing critical treatment closer to home. In addition to offering essential care, these centers are equipped with systems to promptly evaluate, manage, and transfer patients to Level I and II facilities when necessary. According to the NYS Department of Health, Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse is the Central New York region's only Level I Trauma Center for adults and pediatrics. 'We are honored to receive the Provisional Level III Trauma Center designation from the New York State Department of Health,' said Thomas H. Carman, President and CEO at Samaritan Medical Center. 'This designation is an important step in highlighting our trauma care capabilities, and we are eager to complete the verification process with the American College of Surgeons (ACS) to solidify our position as a comprehensive trauma care provider.' Samaritan Medical Center is the largest hospital and only trauma center in Jefferson and Lewis Counties. December 2024 OWL award recipients Daniel Bryden, DO is the Trauma Medical Director for Samaritan Medical Center. 'The provisional designation is an essential first step in our long-term goal of becoming an ACS Verified Level III Trauma Center,' said Dr. Bryden. 'In the meantime, the hospital will continue to build upon its trauma care services, ensuring that patients receive the best care in their time of need.' Samaritan Medical Center says that when the American College of Surgeons (ACS) rigorous two-year verification process is successfully completed, Samaritan will be recognized as an ACS Verified Level III Adult Trauma Center.
