New Land Rover Defender Octa Black breaks cover

Land Rover has lifted the covers off its new Defender Octa Black that, similar to the recently revealed Range Rover Sport SV Black, embraces a sinister darkened aesthetic. Visually, the Octa Black stands out with Narvik Black paintwork complemented by Satin Black Powder Coat accents on the front undershield and rear scuff plates, as well as exposed recovery points finished in matching Satin Black. Gloss Black detailing extends to the front tow eye cover, quad exhaust tips and Land Rover grille badging, which features darkened silver script. Underbody components such as the exhaust silencer cover and the optional deployable tow bar also adopt Gloss or Satin Black finishes. Image: Supplied Wheel options include 20" forged alloys or 22" Gloss Black rims with black centre caps and Shadow Atlas Defender script. Behind them sit Gloss Black brake calipers with contrasting Sentient Silver lettering. Inside, the cabin introduces Ebony Semi-Aniline leather with Kvadrat textile inserts to the Defender range for the first time. Paired with new perforation patterns and backrest stitching, Land Rover says it lends a softer, more tactile finish to the Performance Seats. The seat backs and armrest hinges are finished in Carpathian Grey, while the Cross Car Beam on the dashboard is treated in Satin Black Powder Coat. Optional Chopped Carbon Fibre trim adds further visual impact. As with the regular Defender Octa, power is provided by a BMW-sourced 4.4 l twin-turbocharged mild-hybrid V8 petrol engine delivering 467kW and 750Nm (boosted to 800Nm when Dynamic Launch Mode is engaged). Paired with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and high/low range transfer case, Land Rover claims a 0-100km/h sprint time of 4.0 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h (when fitted with 22" wheels). Supporting this formidable straight-line performance is Land Rover's 6D Dynamics suspension system: a hydraulically interlinked set-up with continuously variable semiactive dampers engineered to minimise pitch and body roll while preserving ride comfort. Compared with standard Defender models, the Octa Black sits 28mm higher and has a 68mm wider track. Revised suspension geometry, reinforced wishbones and bespoke dampers with separate accumulators further improve dynamics. Braking is handled by 400mm discs up front with Brembo calipers and the steering system features the fastest ratio of any Defender to date. Inside, the cabin introduces Ebony Semi-Aniline leather with Kvadrat textile inserts to the Defender range for the first time. Image: Supplied The Octa Black also features a range of off-road drive modes, including a dedicated Octa Mode for performance driving in challenging terrain. Land Rover's proven Terrain Response system remains, with its familiar suite of settings including sand, mud and ruts, grass, gravel, snow and rock crawl. A standard ClearSight Ground View camera helps improve visibility in technical off-road scenarios. Priced from R3,979,500, the Defender Octa Black will be available in limited numbers, each sold in exclusive pre-configured specifications.

Land Rover's Darkest Defender Gets 626 HP- Still Not Enough To Beat Urus SE?

Land Rover has put its design hat on to give the Defender Octa a sinister look; the result, a new all-black edition called the Octa Black. It comes a year after the introduction of the Defender Octa in the global market. To differentiate it from all the other iterations, the brand has added up to 30 exteriors finished in satin or gloss black. The introduction of this version is in sync with the trend that we have seen in the Indian market as well, with the manufacturers introducing all-black versions of their models. To achieve the all-black look, the Defender Octa all-black comes with a Narvik Black paint, which the brand claims is the "truest black in the Defender paint palette". Though the SUV is offered with a gloss finish, consumers can opt for an optional matte protective film. Taking a closer look, the skid plates get a satin black powder coating. Similar treatment has been given to recovery hooks and a four-tailpipe exhaust system, but with a gloss finish. Adding to its quirks, the brand has given the SUV a black grille and dark silver "Defender" badge. The consumers can also get the options of 20 or 22-inch wheels with a gloss black finish to go with the overall theme. These wheels have centre caps as well as a braking system with black callipers. Step on the inside, and the dark colours continue to mark their presence in the details. This includes a satin black powder-coated cross-bar beam. Fitting into the theme are black switchgear and a black steering wheel. There is an option of a "chopped carbon fibre" finish. This continues to the ebony semi-aniline leather seats with Kvadrat accents. Complementing all of this are perforations and stitch accents on the backrests. The powertrain details of this version are the same as the standard Octa. It seeks power from a twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 producing 626 hp of power and 749 Nm of torque. This power can be used to accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 4 seconds, while the top speed is limited to 250 kmph. The SUV is slower than the Lamborghini Urus SE, which comes with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with a hybrid system that produces 789 hp and 950 Nm. This power can be used to go from 0-100 kmph in 3.4 seconds while the top speed is 312 kmph.

2026 Land Rover Defender Octa Black Is a More Sinister 626-HP SUV

The 2026 Land Rover Defender Octa Black is the newest variation of the range-topping Defender. Land Rover says 30 exterior components are finished in either gloss or satin black, with the exterior painted in Narvik Black. The Octa Black follows the rest of the 2026 Defender lineup with new headlights and taillights as well as a new 13.1-inch center touchscreen. Along with giving the 2026 Defender its first facelift since the nameplate returned to the United States in 2020, Land Rover is also adding a new visual package for the iconic model. It's called the Defender Octa Black, and Land Rover says it's an even bolder look for the range-topping model. A Blacked-Out Octa As the name implies, the Octa Black takes the newest Defender and covers every inch of it in black paint. Land Rover says that 30 exterior elements were given the Rolling Stones treatment. That includes the scuff plates, recovery hooks, exhaust tips, Land Rover badges, wheels, and brake calipers finished in a variation of satin or gloss black. The exterior bodywork is finished in Narvik Black, which the automaker calls the "truest black" in the Defender lineup. Land Rover The interior maintains the theme, with carbon-fiber trim throughout. The crossbar spanning the dashboard features satin black, the leather seats are finished in an ebony color, and the armrests and seatbacks use Carpathian Grey. As it's joining the lineup for 2026, updates to the Octa Black follow the rest of the Defender lineup. For the outside, that means newly standard fog lights, a new LED graphic for the headlights, and taillights that now sit flush with the body. Inside, the Octa Black gets a new 13.1-inch center touchscreen, which replaces the old 10.0-inch unit. Land Rover Land Rover Power is unchanged from the standard Octa. A twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V-8 sits under the hood and pumps out 626 horsepower. Given that a 518-hp V-8-equipped Defender 90 we tested hit 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, we expect the Octa can make the same sprint in fewer than 4.0 seconds. Official pricing and availability haven't yet been announced, but we don't expect the price to stray too far from the current Octa's $153,625 jumping-off point. If Batman drove a Defender, it might look like this…

Hot on the heels of the Range Rover Sport SV Black, comes a new flagship Land Rover Defender. The creatively named Land Rover Defender Octa Black features no fewer than 30 pieces of exterior trim finished in either gloss or satin black, with a similarly-dark finish applied to the cabin. As with the existing Octa, the Black is fitted with the firm's most powerful twin-turbo V8 engine, producing 626bhp. Advertisement - Article continues below Land Rover refers to the new model as an 'all-black interpretation of the unstoppable Defender flagship'. Taking those words quite literally, the Defender Octa Black gets Narvik Black paint which, as on other models in the 4x4 range, can be wrapped in a Matte Protective Film for an additional charge. Elsewhere, there's a choice of 20 or 22-inch wheels, both in black, while the black badges and brake calipers feature silver script. You'll find satin black powder-coated scuff plates and gloss-black quad exhaust tips, and you can even choose to paint your car's towing eye or towbar in, you guessed it, black. Inside, the 'Performance Seats' are finished in Ebony Semi-Aniline Leather with 'unique perforation patterns' and 'new stitching detail' on the backrests. Bizarrely, the seat backs and armrest hinges are finished in Carpathian Grey, rather than black. On the dashboard, the car's cross beam gets a satin-black powder coat, while owners can specify chopped carbon-fibre trim elements, in what Land Rover calls the 'epitome of tough luxury'. Skip advert Advertisement - Article continues below Mark Cameron, managing director for the Defender brand said: 'We know our clients love giving their Defenders all-black finishes, so our designers have applied this principle to every possible surface – inside and out – to create the ultimate tough luxury Defender Octa.' This can be considered a purely cosmetic upgrade; the Octa Black is unchanged under the metal from the standard range-topper – meaning a 626bhp twin-turbo, mild-hybrid V8 and a dedicated Octa drive mode. Prices from the Octa Black start from £158,045 – £10k more than the existing Octa. All cars feature a 13.1-inch infotainment system and 15-speaker, 700-watt Meridian stereo with Body and Soul Seats (BASS) – linking neatly with Defender's support of the 41-date Oasis global tour, which kicks off today (4 July). In other news, the Defender Octa is now offered in two new colours: Sargasso Blue and Borasco Grey. A Patagonia White Matte Wrap will be available towards the end of the year.
