Elton John Has Charted A New Album Every Week For Almost A Month
Elton John's One Night Only - The Greatest Hits debuts on the U.K.'s Official Album Downloads chart, ... More earning the star his third new album in as many weeks. LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - MARCH 23: (EDITORIAL USE ONLY) Elton John performs during the first UK stop on his "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" Tour at M&S Bank Arena on March 23, 2023 in Liverpool, England. (Photo by) Even after more than half a century in the spotlight, Elton John continues to rack up new wins on charts all around the world. The piano player and singer isn't just sticking around — he's actively debuting projects in lofty positions in many markets, which is an impressive feat for any veteran artist. This week, he adds another title to his growing 2025 streak, as a beloved live recording finds its way onto one tally in the United Kingdom. John's One Night Only - The Greatest Hits arrives on the Official Album Downloads chart this week. The live set, which highlights some of his best-loved songs, opens at No. 62. That means the project was one of the most downloaded titles in the U.K. this frame – and for the first time! The new arrival extends a remarkable run for John on the U.K. charts. This marks the third consecutive week in which the superstar has landed at least one new entry on an album tally in the country. Three frames ago, he and Brandi Carlile shared Who Believes In Angels?, a joint effort that immediately stormed to No. 1 on every roster it appeared on — and it's still performing exceptionally well. Last week, John joined forces with Ry Cooder for Live From the Rainbow Theatre, a special release shared for Record Store Day. While that project has already fallen off the rankings — a typical outcome for Record Store Day exclusives — after just a few days of selling very well. Unlike Who Believes In Angels? and Live From the Rainbow Theatre, One Night Only isn't a new offering. The live album originally dropped in 2000 and is now nearing its twenty-fifth anniversary, which it will reach in a few months. When it was first released, the collection became another sizable success for John in the country. It peaked at No. 7 on the Official Albums chart, and it's already been certified platinum in John's home nation. John's chart success at the moment in the U.K. isn't limited to just One Night Only. Two additional collections from the legend continue to sell and stream as well. Who Believes In Angels? remains inside the top 10 on five different rosters, and it even manages to sit at No. 2 on several of them, barely missing out on yet another frame at No. 1. Meanwhile, Diamonds, John's perennial greatest hits package, enjoys a big rebound on the Official Albums chart. The set jumps from No. 16 to No. 9, claiming another turn inside the top 10. Diamonds is also still present on two other lists, and it even manages to reenter the downloads-only tally, where John now fills three spaces.

Simon & Garfunkel Mounts A Massive Comeback On The Charts
Paul Simon's return to the stage prompts a wave of Simon & Garfunkel albums and singles to return to ... More the charts in the U.K. 1967-Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, of the Simon & Garfunkel singing team, pose in a standing, waist-up, studio portrait. For years, it seemed like fans had seen the last of Paul Simon playing live. The singer-songwriter, who announced his retirement from the road back in 2018, appeared content to step away from the spotlight. But following the 2023 release of Seven Psalms, the superstar has decided to take one final bow — or at least what feels like it — with a quiet but meaningful run of shows across the U.S. and Canada. The tour, dubbed A Quiet Celebration, started in early April, and it may be having a profound effect on the music charts in the United Kingdom. Simon's catalog, both solo and with his former partner Garfunkel, constantly rack up sales and streams in the United Kingdom, but this frame is especially impressive, as several of his most beloved albums and singles are enjoying a resurgence. Five classic Simon & Garfunkel albums return to the same U.K. chart. It's not necessarily odd for a legacy act to break back onto a ranking with a classic, or, in special weeks, more than one. But a quintet of projects on the same roster shows a huge surge in interest in a short span of time, and with a large number of people. Bridge Over Troubled Water leads the way, reentering the Official Album Downloads chart inside the top 10, settling in at No. 7. It's followed by Greatest Hits (No. 11), The Best of Simon & Garfunkel (No. 29), Live 1969 (No. 62), and The Concert in Central Park (No. 88). The renewed attention around the duo's work isn't limited to full-lengths. A trio of Simon & Garfunkel's most recognizable tracks also rebound. 'Bridge Over Troubled Water,' 'The Sound of Silence,' and 'The Boxer' all return to the Official Singles Downloads chart this frame. This time around, the three cuts land at Nos. 75, 86, and 98, respectively. While these returning releases are certainly well-known, most of them haven't spent much time on the downloads-only rankings. Of all the albums, only Greatest Hits has enjoyed any real staying power, as it's now spent 54 frames on the Official Album Downloads chart. The three singles, meanwhile, have each managed just two appearances on the Official Singles Downloads tally, including their comebacks this week. It's not just the duo's discography benefiting from Simon's tour. His own solo material is also climbing, with The Ultimate Collection gaining on two different U.K. charts. On the Official Albums Streaming tally, the set jumps from No. 88 to No. 79, as people keep pressing play on his most familiar singles. It also claws its way back onto the primary Official Albums chart, just making the cut at No. 95.

The Beatles Bring 'Now And Then' And A Bestselling Album Back To The Charts
The Beatles score multiple U.K. chart wins this week, as 'Now and Then' and the 1 compilation both ... More return to rankings, becoming bestsellers again. 10th January 1964: Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon (1940 - 1980) and George Harrison (1943 - 2001) of British pop group The Beatles. (Photo by Terry Disney/Express/Getty Images) It's never strange to see The Beatles on the charts, especially in the United Kingdom, where the legendary pop-rock outfit remains a fixture. Decades after disbanding, the band still maintains a constant presence across a number of rankings, kept afloat by unwavering fan support and a discography that seems unbeatable. While appearances on the charts aren't unusual for The Beatles, it is notable when one song or album suddenly outperforms the rest, or returns. This frame, the band collects several wins across the country, including a pair of reappearing wins — one single and one full-length — that are both still fan favorites. When it comes to The Beatles' two returning titles on the U.K. charts, 'Now and Then' is the higher-rising title. The single, which debuted years after the group disbanded, was created largely by both Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, who used artificial intelligence technology to clean up old recordings made by John Lennon and George Harrison in order to craft something brand new – the group's final release. This week, the track returns to the Official Vinyl Singles chart at No. 31. That comeback is accompanied by another leap, as it bolts from No. 61 to No. 28 on the Official Physical Singles list — a jump of more than 30 spots. 'Now and Then' has previously reached the summit on both of the U.K. tallies it appears on this week. The tune has now spent 36 weeks on the Official Vinyl Singles chart and 75 on the broader Official Physical Singles ranking. That's twice as many stays on the latter list, which makes sense given that it encompasses more formats and, perhaps, a larger number of potential buyers. The Beatles' 1, one of the most successful compilations in British music history, also makes its way back to the charts this week. The greatest hits collection, which includes dozens of the band's former No. 1 smashes, reappears on just one ranking, as it returns to the Official Album Downloads chart at No. 94. 1 isn't the only full-length by The Beatles present on the charts in the U.K. right now. Two other popular compilations — 1962–1966 and 1967–1970 — are both still holding on via a pair of tallies. The two companion releases appear on the Official Albums list, which ranks the most popular titles based on a mix of metrics, as well as the Official Albums Streaming roster, which focuses solely on plays from platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. Interestingly, the collections experience completely different movements. 1967–1970, the set that features the band's later output, improves on both lists this frame. At the same time, 1962–1966, which compiles earlier hits, experiences a small dip on both tallies.

Dire Straits Shoot Up The Charts Decades After The Band Split
Dire Straits returns to U.K. charts as Private Investigations climbs again, boosted by renewed ... More interest in Mark Knopfler's 'Going Home' and Sam Fender's tribute. Dire Straits, group portrait, Amsterdam, Netherlands, 1978. Mark Knopfler, David Knopfler, Pick Withers, John Illsley. (Photo by Gijsbert Hanekroot/Redferns) It's been decades since Dire Straits released new music. Still, that hasn't stopped the British rock group from earning a surprise return to the charts this week in that country. The recent success of a song by frontman Mark Knopfler has sparked new interest in the group's catalog, and one compilation is reaping the rewards of all that attention. Private Investigations: The Best of Dire Straits and Mark Knopfler is on the rise once again, showing that even without a reunion, a major hit can reignite excitement in an act's work. This week, Private Investigations moves north on two separate tallies in the United Kingdom. The compilation nearly returns to the top 40 on the Official Album Downloads chart, jumping from No. 67 to No. 45. The project also makes major moves on the Official Albums Streaming chart. It climbs a few spaces to reach No. 91, which is a much more modest gain, but growth is growth – especially when it comes to decades-old collections. While Private Investigations is improving on both rankings, its performance on the downloads list is, historically, much stronger. The retrospective has now spent 167 weeks on the Official Album Downloads chart, peaking as high as No. 16. By comparison, the set only reached No. 64 on the Official Albums Streaming roster, and it only fairly recently crossed the 100-week mark on that roster. What's driving this renewed interest? A song featured on Private Investigations, Knopfler's solo cut 'Going Home,' is suddenly enjoying a moment in the spotlight. This week, the tune debuts on a pair of lists in the U.K., opening on the Official Singles Downloads and Official Singles Sales charts. It launches at No. 62 on the former and No. 64 on the latter. 'Going Home' was recorded as a charity single and credited to Mark Knopfler's Guitar Heroes last year, and that version is also doing well. The newer rendition rises from No. 51 to No. 25 on the Official Physical Singles chart this frame. It features an extraordinary lineup of rock legends, including Eric Clapton, Ringo Starr, Bruce Springsteen, and dozens of others. Proceeds from the track benefit cancer-related nonprofits, and it seems that the British public is in love with every take of the tune. The recent spike in popularity is seemingly linked to Sam Fender, who performed 'Going Home' in tribute to a U.K. soccer team following a major victory. The song already served as the walkout anthem for the team, but Fender's version brought it to a much wider audience, especially considering his celebrity.

Two Pink Floyd Blockbusters Return, But Not In The Same Way
Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here return to the U.K. charts, with the ... [+] former climbing multiple lists and the latter reappearing on the Official Album Downloads chart. CIRCA 1973: Pink Floyd (L-R: Rick Wright, Dave Gilmour, Roger Waters and Nick Mason pose for a publicity shot circa 1973. (Photo by Michael) Pink Floyd's catalog is selling well once again in the United Kingdom. That statement is not unusual, nor is it uncommon for the pioneering rock act to see multiple projects appear on the weekly lists in that nation. What makes the group's performance this time around noteworthy is that two different releases manage to return, though they don't return to the same list as one another – and how they mount their comeback says something about how fans love to consume the outfit's work. Wish You Were Here earns the most dramatic return this week among Pink Floyd's successes. The title only appears on one chart in the U.K., and it bounces back onto the Official Album Downloads list this time around. It comes in at No. 70, standing out as one of the most-purchased releases on platforms like Amazon and iTunes, among others. The Dark Side of the Moon is unsurprisingly Pink Floyd's biggest win at the moment. That is typically the case, as the album is one of the bestselling of all time, regardless of country or style. This time around, that behemoth makes home on four rankings in the U.K., and it breaks back onto just one of them. Pink Floyd's The Dark Side of the Moon reenters the Official Physical Albums chart. It narrowly manages to rank among the top-selling full-lengths on any physical format, which can include CD, cassette, and perhaps most importantly these days, vinyl. That roster excludes downloads entirely – which is exactly how Wish You Were Here reemerges. That same classic rock favorite is also present on three other lists. It doesn't need to reappear on any of them, but it does manage to climb on each and every tally. The Dark Side of the Moon sits highest on the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, where it improves one spot to lucky No. 13. The same bestseller improves significantly on both the Official Album Downloads and Official Album Sales rosters. On the download-only tally, Pink Floyd gains the most ground, surging from No. 92 to No. 55. The collection also pushes more than 10 spots north on the Official Album Sales chart, coming in at No. 86. While both The Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here rank among the most important and bestselling rock albums of all time, only one of them has hit No. 1, and on just one of the lists on which it appears. The Dark Side of the Moon has previously topped the Official Rock & Metal Albums chart, but thus far has had to settle for a top 10 placement on all of the other lists. Somewhat shockingly, Wish You Were Here has never managed to crack the top 40 on the Official Album Downloads chart. Thus far in its 33 weeks somewhere on the list, it has only risen as high as No. 45.
