Chu and Jill Culton's upcoming film adaptation of Oh, the Places You'll Go!, a 1990 classic written and illustrated by the iconic children's book author. Josh Gad — who previously lent his voice to Frozen, playing Olaf the Snowman — will also star in the project, which will hit theaters in 2028. Oh, the Places You'll Go! marks the latest film project Grande has signed up for since starring in Wicked, which premiered last year and was also directed by Chu. This time, to Seussville. The beloved Dr. Seuss book Oh, the Places You'll Go! is being adapted into an animated film, with the pop star and actor Josh Gad lending their voices to the project. The film will be directed by Jon Chu, who directed many popular movies, including Crazy Rich Asians and the Wicked movies. The upcoming film marks the latest in a series of Dr. Seuss classics getting the Hollywood treatment. Warner Bros. teased the start of production for the animated film on Instagram Tuesday morning. The post featured a behind-the-scenes look at a pair of headphones resting beside a script marked with Grande's name. There's no way around the fact that the 2025 movie schedule has a hell of a hit in store with Wicked: For Good's November release. Part of the magic making that possible is, of course, the rockstar efforts of director Jon M. Chu and co-lead Ariana Grande, both of whom are well-regarded musical vets. So what could possibly make their reteaming on another song filled adventure even more exciting? How about a Frozen co-star, and the 2017 Oscar winning songwriters behind La La Land? Hyping Chu's 2028's adaptation of Oh, The Places You'll Go, Warner Bros has doubled down on the Dr. Seuss of it all on social media. Announcing Grande's casting, alongside Josh 'Olaf the Snowman' Gad and the inclusion of musical duo Benj Pasek & Justin Paul, you can see the good news about Oh, The Places You'll Go in the post below: Now if that isn't a team for the ages, I don't know what is. The Ariana Grande/Josh Gad team should go a long way towards selling audiences on Oh, The Places You'll Go, and for one big reason. Unlike previous Dr. Seuss adaptations like How The Grinch Stole Christmas, The Cat in the Hat, or Horton Hears a Who, there isn't really a rigid narrative in play. The 1990 children's book is one that has more of a message than a plotline, which sees its protagonist go on a journey that teaches them to be curious and open to wherever one can go next in life. A staple for graduation gifts of all ages, it's a positive journey that could very easily involve quirky supporting characters, Oscar-nominated songs, and a colorful landscape of adventure. Of course, it's hard to call who'd be the protagonist and who'd be the sidekick here, as Ariana Grande and Josh Gad are equally fit for both roles. We don't know much about the story, although we do know there will be singing; for all we know, Jon M. Chu is encouraging his leads to warm up their voices as we speak. I know 2028 feels like a long time out, but considering the recent teaser for The Cat in the Hat, Warner Bros. has picked a pretty smart time to hype its Seussian Cinematic Universe. Oh, and the fact that the Bill Hader-led reel of footage is running in the same Superman pre-show package that includes Wicked: For Good's first trailer probably helps boost this move's powers as well. Oh, The Places You'll Go will arrive at its final cinematic destination on March 17, 2028. Two much closer pictures to look forward to are The Cat in the Hat, which opens on February 27 as part of the 2026 movie calendar, and of course Wicked: For Good – which is set for a much closer release date of November 21.

Chu will direct the movie alongside Abominable director Jill Culton. Josh Gad will also play a role in the Grande's next musical will be a Seussical. The "Into You" singer is set to reunite with Wicked director Jon M. Chu on another movie musical: an animated adaptation of Dr. Seuss' Oh, the Places You'll Go!, Entertainment Weekly has learned. "I love this book, i love this script, i love the beautiful world of @drseuss, i love this incredible group of creative human beings," Grande wrote in an Instagram story. "I am so thrilled to be a part of this one." The Warner Bros. film will also star Josh Gad, who has previously leant his voice to two Frozen movies, two Angry Birds movies, A Dog's Purpose, Marmaduke, and three seasons of Central Park. Jill Culton, who made her directorial debut with 2019's Abominable after working as a story artist on films like Toy Story and Shrek, will direct alongside Chu. The film's original songs will be written by EGOT-winners Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, who earned acclaim for penning songs for The Greatest Showman and Dear Evan Hansen as well as lyrics for La La Land. Oh, the Places You Go! will Warner Bros. Pictures Animation's second Dr. Seuss adaptation after 2026's The Cat in the Hat starring Bill Hader. The film will be produced by J.J. Abrams and Gregg Taylor of Bad Robot. Other Seuss adaptations have dominated the box office in the past, including the live-action How the Grinch Stole Christmas and Illumination's animated takes on The Lorax and The Grinch. Those films, however, are based on Seuss' more narratively-oriented picture books, whereas Oh, the Places You'll Go! — which was the writer's final project released in his lifetime — is a much more abstract poem of a book, without particularly defined characters or specific story beats. That means that the Oh, the Places movie should have creative space to essentially build characters and plot from the ground up, as the only essential elements from Seuss' book are the mysterious "Waiting Place" and the author's dazzling illustrative style. Following the smashing success of last year's Wicked, Grande will reprise her Oscar-nominated role of Glinda in Wicked: For Good. Directed by Chu, the film is the second half of the Wizard of Oz prequel musical and is set to release on Nov. 21. After finishing her stay in Oz, Grande will act opposite Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro in a fourth Meet the Parents comedy, which will hit theaters in November 2026. Chu has a massive slate of film projects lined up after Wicked: For Good, and it's not immediately clear if any of his potential upcoming movies will be released before Oh, the Places You'll Go! The In the Heights filmmaker is attached to helm a Britney Spears biopic for Universal; a Jesus Christ Superstar adaptation for Amazon; an art-heist movie based on a true story for Warner Bros.; an adaptation of the video game Split Fiction starring Sydney Sweeney; another film for Warner Bros. based on Mattel's Hot Wheels toy line; and possibly a Play-Doh animated movie for eOne and Hasbro. He's also set to direct a stage musical adaptation of his 2018 rom-com Crazy Rich Asians on the Places You Go is scheduled to be released in IMAX on March 17, 2028.
