Paralympian helps youngsters think about saving energy at workshop
She was at Ebbw Fawr Learning Community to help deliver a workshop in partnership with British Gas. Ninety pupils at Ebbw Fawr took part in the workshop which saw them designing posters to encourage energy saving at home and school, spotting ways to prevent energy misuse, and suggesting improvements to make their school a greener place. Mel Thomas, headteacher at Ebbw Fawr Learning Community, said: "Our pupils found the day highly engaging and enjoyable. Funmi Oduwaiye and the British Gas team were very enthusiastic, and it was lovely to see the positive impact this had on the pupils, who particularly enjoyed the 'power up' element of the day.' Hannah Lawrance, strategic brand partnerships lead at British Gas, said: 'We met some brilliant pupils who threw their all into the energy saving activities we had planned which was great to see. 'The programme aims to educate children on building a more sustainable future, which helps us to create a more sustainable community for all." The Get Set for Positive Energy Roadshow, which the workshop was part of, makes up part of British Gas' wider Get Set for Positive Energy initiative, which aims to educate five to 11 year olds on the importance of saving energy to drive change. The partnership between Team GB, ParalympicsGB and British Gas launched in 2023. The five-year collaboration will last until the Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2028.
