Oman blank Iran to claim second Asian beach handball title
MUSCAT: Oman blanked Iran 2-0 in the final summit clash of the 10th edition of AHF Asian Beach Handball Championship in Muscat on Thursday night to claim their second Asian title after 21 years from the first title which they won in 2004. Oman's Asaad al Hasani and his teammates delivered solid performance and managed to end both match sets for their side as the opening half concluded at 21-18 while the deciding half finished at 14-10 to seal their victory and lift the Asian title. Oman's goalkeeper Hudhaifa al Siyabi became the man of the match following his top show. Both Oman and Iran confirmed their attendance in the 2026 IHF Beach Handball World Championships which will take place next year in Morocco while Pakistan claimed bronze medal following their thrilling win over Jordan in the third and fourth play-off on Thursday at the sands court of Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. In the women's category, Vietnam emerged winners after finishing top in the group following their last match win against Philippines 2-0 as both teams clinched the two tickets to the 2026 IHF Beach Handball World Championships for Women. 'I am very pleased with the players performance in all the matches specially from the last game against Jordan in semifinals and against defending champions Iran in the final. Winning this title was a dream for us in this edition as we were fighting for it and it became true in Muscat. Special thanks to the players for their outstanding show despite the lack of preparations prior to the Asian tournament,' he said. 'Since last April, the players were in a busy schedule as they had played in the GCC Beach Games and then in domestic camps until the Asian event. I am very proud of them and now our focus will shift to have a proper plan for the 2026 IHF Beach Handball World Championships,' he concluded. Oman captain Said al Hasani receives the trophy. Oman's star player Asaad al Hasani said all the team members had affirmed prior to the final for delivering their tremendous efforts. 'I am very glad with our achievement of winning this Asian title against the defending champions. This year is a special season for us as we ended as champions of Gulf and Asia. This will motivate us to do much better in the forthcoming participation at the 2026 IHF Beach Handball World Championships. Our team is a mixture of young and experienced players and this will give us good chance to deliver our best in the global event,' he added.

Oman to compete at Pan Arab Junior and Ladies Golf Championship in Egypt
MUSCAT: A contingent of talented young golfers will represent Oman at the 2025 Pan Arab Junior and Ladies Golf Championship, to be held from May 7 to 10 in Cairo, Egypt. The prestigious event, hosted by the Arab Golf Federation in collaboration with the Egyptian Golf Federation, will be staged across two of Cairo's premier courses – Madinaty Golf Club and Katameya Dunes Golf Club. Oman will join 12 other nations including Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, the United Arab Emirates, and hosts Egypt – a strong lineup that reflects the growing competitiveness and appeal of golf in the Arab region. The Oman Golf Association has fielded a promising squad across four categories. The ladies team comprises Huwaida Al Barwani, Sheikha Al Ghaithi, Wafa Al Hadhrami while the U16 girls team include Miraeri Sampat and Yasmin Al Kathiri. The boys U18 squad is represented by Pransh Jagwani while the boys' U13 team consists of Yusuf Al Rumhi and Taimur Al Busaidi. The Omani delegation will be accompanied by Ahmed Al Jhdhamy and Nikhil Sampat, both board members of the Oman Golf Association. In conjunction with the championship, a Golf Festival will be held at Madinaty Golf Club to mark the 50th anniversary of the Arab Golf Federation. The festival aims to increase public interest in the sport through a blend of entertainment and education, including: Oman's participation not only highlights the nation's growing investment in golf development but also offers valuable international experience for its emerging players. The championship provides a vital platform for junior and female golfers to compete at a high level, gain exposure, and build camaraderie with peers from across the Arab world.

Muscat: Oman's U18 golf team recently brought home the gold medal from the GCC championship, marking a significant milestone for the country's rising golfing talent. Faiz Mohammad Riaz, Vice Chairman of the Oman Golf Association (OGA), praised the team's achievement, highlighting their commitment, discipline, and teamwork as the key factors behind their success. 'The title victory is not just about a medal; it reflects the hard work, discipline, and commitment of our young golfers,' Faiz said. 'It's a reminder that with perseverance, we can compete at the highest levels in the region. Our young champions have shown that with passion and effort, great things are possible.' Faiz also took the time to acknowledge Adam, who earned a silver medal in the individual category. He commended Adam's focus and determination, emphasising that his success is a lesson for all young golfers. 'Adam's achievement is a result of his unwavering commitment and effort,' added Faiz. Muscat: Oman's U18 boys' team made history by clinching their first-ever gold medal at the GCC Golf Championship, a landmark achievement that underscores the nation's rapid progress in the sport. After three consecutive years of finishing second, Oman's young golfers delivered a stellar performance at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, securing their place at the top of Gulf junior golf. The trio of Adam Al Barwani (234), Mahir Sampat (253), and Pransh Jagwani (254) combined for a total score of 484, edging out Kuwait on countback after both teams finished level. The UAE secured third place with 493, followed by Bahrain (495), Qatar (516), and Saudi Arabia (523). Adding to Oman's success, Adam capped off the team's dominant showing by winning the individual silver medal (234), finishing second in the U18 category behind Kuwait's Salem Al Abkal (223). The UAE's Mohammed Thabet (238) claimed bronze. The victory represents a significant moment for Oman's young golfers, who have been steadily improving under the Oman Golf Association's (OGA) structured training and development programmes. Dedication of the teenagers, competitive exposure, and investment in youth golf are now paying off, with this title marking a new era for the sport in the country. Reflecting on the team's triumph, Mahir, a key player in Oman's gold-winning squad, expressed his pride. He said: 'I am delighted to win the gold medal at the GCC Championships for my country. I'm very glad that the commitment and hard work paid off, which led to an excellent result in the team category. I look forward to winning more medals for Oman in the years to come.' His teammate Adam, who not only contributed to the team gold but also secured individual silver, echoed similar sentiments. 'Winning gold as a team and adding an individual silver is an incredible feeling. This victory is the result of years of hard work and dedication, and I am proud to be part of this historic moment for Oman golf. I hope we can build on this and achieve even greater success in the future,' said Adam. Completing the golden trio, Pransh acknowledged the significance of the moment and the team's collective effort. The tournament flag was officially handed over to the Omani delegation, and was received by Salim Al Busaidi, Counsellor, Oman Embassy in Jeddah, marking the beginning of preparations for Oman's turn to welcome the region's best golfers. Oman's men's team struggles While the U18 team celebrated a historic victory, Oman's men's team, comprising Azzan Al Rumhi, Badar Al Amri, Ahmed Al Wahaibi, and Amjad Al Toky, endured a challenging outing, failing to reach the podium in both individual and team categories. The UAE's Ahmed Skaik secured the men's individual gold, followed by Qatar's Daniel Sokolov in second place and the UAE's Jonathan Silveraj in third. In the men's team category, the UAE dominated once again, taking gold ahead of Qatar and Bahrain.
