NA erupts as PTI dismisses federal budget
ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly went into one of its wildest frenzy on Tuesday, as opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers unleashed a barrage of criticism, out-rightly dismissing the finance bill for the forthcoming year of fiscal prudence. As the government tried to roll out its financial blueprint, the PTI launched a loud protest, blasting the proposed budget before the finance minister could even catch his breath. Opposition Leader in National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan, Shahid Khattak, Zartaj Gul Wazir, Iqbal Afridi, Sanaullah Mastikhel and Jamshed Dasti led the protest. Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, Ali Muhammad Khan, Sheryar Afridi, and a handful of others; however, were completely missing in action. The protesting PTI legislators pounded their desks and raised loud slogans. They surged forward, practically overrunning the NA Speaker's dais mid-speech by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, turning the House into a fish market. At this, the government ministers had to rush in, forming a human shield around Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's chair, just to keep the PTI hotheads at bay. Later, talking to reporters, PTI leaders blasted the government, terming the federal budget as a 'disgusting' giveaway to the rich backed by the 'installed regime'. The opposition leader labelled the budget 'anti-poor,' 'pro-elite,' and a puppet show dictated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The budget, he declared, was the 'worst in the country's history.' Earlier in the day, during a meeting of the party's parliamentary committee, the PTI leaders were particularly incensed by the National Assembly speaker's pay hike, which they slammed as 'shameful.' The speaker's salary jumped from Rs250,000 to a 'whopping' Rs1.3 million, a move PTI called 'disgusting'. They accused the Sharif administration of leaving the 'poverty-stricken masses' at the mercy of God, while showering everything on the rich. However, in a message on X, PTI spokesman Sheikh Waqas Akram laid out the numbers, pointing to ballooning interest payments as proof of economic mismanagement. 'The difference in the government's interest payments from Rs3,182 billion to Rs8,633 billion, i.e., an additional burden of Rs5,500 billion, came from the PTI to the PDM government,' he wrote. 'They are absolutely right in saying that these are experimental people, not in work, but in fraud and deceit…!' Speaking to reporters, PTI leaders rejected the budget and accused the Sharif administration of 'completely ruining the economy' and piling on debt. They blamed a 'brain drain,' flawed economic policies, and political instability for wrecking the country. The PTI vowed to resist the budget 'tooth and nail,' promising a fight to the finish against what they see as a blatant power grab by the ruling elite. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

Omar Ayub slams Indian aggression
Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan has strongly condemned the unprovoked Indian aggression along the Line of Control (LoC), declaring it an unacceptable and blatant violation of international norms. He expressed solidarity with the innocent civilians injured in the attack and offered prayers for the martyrs who lost their lives in India's unprovoked assault. He said that the nation and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stand firmly with the soldiers, pilots, airmen and sailors defending Pakistan's borders. In a statement, the PTI leader said India's shameless missile strikes were unjustified, provocative and endanger the peace and stability of the entire region. However, he lamented that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was "busy appeasing Modi and India" instead of responding firmly, "all owing to the Sharif family's business interests with Indian business tycoon Sajjan Jindal, chairman of JSW Group of Industries". The opposition leader warned that Indian aggression posed not only a threat to Pakistan but also to global peace.

Ayub urges strong message to India
Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan said on Friday that Pakistan must deliver a clear and strong message to India that any adventurism would be met with a jaw-breaking response. Speaking to the media, the opposition leader said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif's speech – clarifying that Pakistan had no involvement in the Pahalgam incident – had failed to convey the strength of resolve required in the current situation. "We will have to deliver a clear message that any Indian attack will be repulsed with full force," Ayub asserted. He added that PTI founder Imran Khan, PTI leader Ijaz Chaudhry and other imprisoned leaders were languishing in jail for raising their voices for Pakistan and democracy.

Omar alleges govt hiding vital information
ISLAMABAD: Opposition Leader in National Assembly Omar Ayub Khan on Friday claimed the government is concealing vital information about the country's artillery shell reserves at a time of rising tensions with India. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), Khan revealed he had submitted a formal query to the National Assembly Secretariat on 14 September 2024, seeking details on the status and availability of artillery munitions – a request driven, he said, by growing signs of Indian military aggression. The concerns I raised then are now becoming a grim reality, he said, alleging that the concerned ministry stonewalled his inquiry, citing 'national security pretexts'. He; however, said the refusal masked a much deeper issue. 'The real issue here isn't national security – it's a cover-up,' Khan said, accusing the then PDM government of 'reckless compliance' with Western demands. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

PTI submits NA resolution opposing construction of canals on Indus river
Listen to article Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday submitted a resolution to the National Assembly opposing the construction of new canals from the Indus River under the Green Pakistan Initiative, citing serious concerns from Sindh. The resolution was submitted by Opposition Leader Omar Ayub Khan and signed by party leaders Zartaj Gul, Ali Muhammad Khan, and Mujahid Khan. The resolution demanded an immediate suspension of the Cholistan canals project until the concerns raised by Sindh are addressed through constitutional mechanisms. The party called for an emergency meeting of the Council of Common Interests (CCI) within 15 days to ensure inclusive consultation among provinces. PTI also demanded a neutral audit of the Indus River System Authority's (Irsa) water availability certification, to be completed within 60 days. PTI insists that the water distribution outlined in the 1991 Water Accord must be enforced before launching any new canal project, especially ensuring Sindh's share of 48.76 million acre-feet and preserving the Indus Delta's ecological balance. The resolution also urged public hearings and transparent decision-making with active input from Sindh's representatives, civil society, and affected communities. The canal project, inaugurated in February, has triggered tensions between Sindh and Punjab. The Sindh Assembly passed a unanimous resolution against the initiative in March.
