Andrew Omobamidele set to join Strasbourg on permanent basis after decent loan stint at Ligue 1 club

IRELAND defender Andrew Omobamidele is set to join Strasbourg permanently as the French club exercise their €8 million option. Omobamidele, 22, joined the Ligue 1 outfit in January on loan with an option to buy from Nottingham Forest. Strasbourg qualified for the Conference League next season by finishing sixth last term, and boss Liam Rosenior wants Omobamidele to increase options defensively. Should the transfer now go through next month, it will end a difficult 18 months for Omobamidele at Forest. He joined the Premier League outfit from Norwich City in 2023 for £11 million, but made just 15 appearances during that time. Highly-rated by Stephen Kenny, Omobamidele's progress was hampered by injury when with Norwich and then his lack of game time at Forest. Hallgrímsson started him in his second game in charge against Greece but then dropped him from his squad because of his lack of first team football. But recalled this summer for the friendlies with Senegal and Luxembourg, he was one of five players in the squad to see no action in either game.
