Inside Dua Lipa's jaw-dropping Radical Optimism Tour as pop ‘goddess' wows fans ahead of sell out Wembley shows

Bizarre gets an exclusive invitation to the singer's Holland show… and it's amazing SO DAM GREAT Inside Dua Lipa's jaw-dropping Radical Optimism Tour as pop 'goddess' wows fans ahead of sell out Wembley shows DUA LIPA is riding the crest of an enormous wave – and there's no slowing down. After the singer flew me out to Amsterdam as the first British reporter to see her in action on the 80-date Radical Optimism world tour, I'm blown away by how much she's developed as a performer. Advertisement 6 Dua gets a lift on stage during her jaw-dropping performance Credit: Getty In each country so far, including Japan, Thailand, Australia and New Zealand, Dua is held up as a goddess by her fans. And in Amsterdam she gets a rapturous reception after speaking to the sell-out audience in Dutch — which is no easy task. 'Amsterdam is like a second home for us,' Dua's dad and manager Dugi tells me as we catch up over Negroni cocktails before the concert, where I congratulate him on the success of the shows so far. 'It's all for the fans,' he adds with a smile. 'We want them to come to the show and have a great time.' Advertisement It's impossible not to enjoy the two-hour set, in which Dua smashes her way through high-energy dance routines as pyrotechnics explode all around her and confetti falls from the ceiling. New tracks from her latest No1 album, including Training Season, End Of An Era and Falling Forever, go down a storm with the crowd as Dua whips into classics such as One Kiss and Be The One. By playing venues this size — more than 18,000 are at the Amsterdam show — Dua could be forgiven for putting all the focus on to her stage performance. But at every gig she goes into the audience to speak to her fans. Advertisement One sobbing boy, Mattice, can't believe his luck as Dua leans in for a hug, prompting her to joke: 'Please don't cry, we've only just started the show. It's not that bad is it?' Also among the lucky few are a couple due to marry in the next two days, and a superfan wearing a shark's head in a nod to the Radical Optimism album's artwork — with Dua saying as he takes it off: 'Oh, you're cute.' 'Shaken' Dua Lipa in terrifying security scare after fans sneak into her hotel and are found outside her bedroom Her good humour continues and after losing an impromptu game of truth or dare, she picks the latter and is asked to perform the original dance from One Kiss, which has become pop legend. Smiling for the cameras that beam her picture around the arena, Dua dutifully carries off the move and the crowd, who have been right behind her from day one, go absolutely bananas. Advertisement Back on stage, she then goes into Scared To Be Lonely in a tribute to her collaborator, DJ Martin Garrix, who is also watching in the crowd, before nailing Physical, Hallucinate and Illusion. The arena is transformed into a rave, with the audience hooked on every word, before Dua brings the focus on to her powerful vocals. 'You're cute' She makes light work of Be The One and Anything For Love — which is even more impressive given that she has spent 90 minutes going through physically demanding choreography while barely stopping for a break. The energy then fires back up to boiling point for an insanely good four-song encore of New Rules, Dance The Night, Don't Start Now and Houdini, with Dua's high- intensity just as impressive as at the start of the evening. Advertisement She has concerts in Italy and Belgium to go before she will return to the UK for two huge back-to-back shows at Wembley Stadium, on June 20 and 21, and two gigs at Anfield in Liverpool on June 24 and 25. The four dates will see her perform to more than 250,000 fans. It is an incredible comparison when you think that the first Wembley show will take place 3,000 days after her first ever live appearance in the capital, at the 250- capacity Oslo Hackney venue in East London. By the time Dua has finished the UK leg of the tour — before moving on to the US — she will have performed to almost one million people. Advertisement Rising pop stars should take note . . . But in a caption on Instagram, she said she wrote the track shortly after completing work on Short n' Sweet, at which time she was still in love with Barry. Sabrina said: 'Not only was it fun to write, but this song became to me something I can look back on, that will score the mental montage to the very confusing and fun young adult years of life.' The first saw Dua put on a leggy display in a grey corseted bodysuit as she belted out hits such as Levitating and Dance The Night for the crowd. She teamed the incredible look with black tights and a matching pair of sparkly boots which she strutted around the 17,000 capacity Ziggo Dome arena in. After a brief trip backstage, Dua returned donning a dazzling gold and black bodysuit which she glamorously accessorised with matching jewellery. She later slipped into a stylish red jumpsuit. The Amsterdam gig was the latest night of the star's mammoth 80-date Radical Optimism tour. Having kicked off in 2024, the tour is set to continue until December 2025 with Dua performing at venues across the globe. After a series of dates in Australia and New Zealand in April, the singer said she's 'having the time of her life' while touring the world. She told Vogue: 'I love touring and being able to come together with the audience each night. 'I leave the stage feeling like we have all just had the time of our life and, even if just for a moment, we have collectively embraced a future filled with possibility. 'That is just an incomparable feeling.' After a brief visit backstage, the Briton returned donning a dazzling gold and black bodysuit which she glamorously accessorised with matching jewellery The tour comes amid a particularly cheerful time in Dua's personal life after the Brit confirmed her engagement Callum Turner, 35. Just a couple of weeks ago the singer showed off her £25,000 engagement ring in a series of loved-up snaps with her fiancé. The ring reportedly boats an elegant solitaire diamond with an 18 karat gold band. The photos showed Dua and Callum looking as smitten as ever while sipping on cocktails and enjoying sun-soaked dog walks. Dua was all smiles as she held up her porn star martini while the Fantastic Beasts actor kissed her cheek. In another snap, the pair were seen lying in a field during a dog walk with Callum's pet Rottweiler, Golo who was seen standing between his legs. Having begun dating at the beginning of 2024, Dua and her partner kept their relationship private before announcing their engagement late last year. Callum got down on knee in December for what was described as a 'romantic proposal'. The pair made their red carpet debut last month as they stepped out at the 2025 Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute Benefit Gala. Dua looked as glamorous as ever for the occasion, commanding attention in an eye-catching black Chanel mini dress which boasted a feathered skirt and a sheer underlay. Flaunting every inch of her endless pins, Dua slipped into a plunging blazer number with beaded detailing. The beauty accessorised with a dazzling necklace and wore her long dark tresses in a sleek up do. Callum put on a sharp display in a black double-breasted suit as they made their red carpet debut together. The Radical Optimism tour continues on Saturday 7 June in Milan, Italy.

Vancouver duo Vox Rea releases its latest album, The Art Oracles Songbook, this weekend. This is the second full-length record from the group comprised of sisters Kate and Lauren Kurdyak, and the third recording from the siblings to come out on 604 Records. The duo first gained attention while still in secondary school with a trio called The Katherines. Get top headlines and gossip from the world of celebrity and entertainment. The record saw the group's music getting over one million streams on Spotify and generated some 'girl band' buzz. Like many young acts, The Katherines ran its course. The Kurdyak siblings took a hiatus to study philosophy at the now defunct Quest University Canada in Squamish. While pursuing their degrees, they conceived of a new creative identity far removed from the indie-pop their previous band was grounded in. 'Stepping back is scary at times, as you never know about taking those periods of time away,' said Kate. 'But you need those breaks to come back and do something different and keep evolving. COVID was kind of an awesome period to force us to reimagine things moving forward.' Vox Rea tracks, such as the recent singles Hard and One Kiss, expand on the more electronic direction hinted on the duo's 2022 debut album. Along with the new sound, the band is keeping new company, opening for EDM stars such as Felix Cartal. 'After steady touring playing a mix of acoustic and band gigs, we are doing an intentional genre shift,' said Kate Kurdyak. 'Some of our favourite shows have been the electronic ones, and that has led to us try to start dancing in both indie rock and EDM scenes. It's a little more fun, and feasible, since we can tour as a duo.' Reimagining its past band-oriented songs in a backing track-based setting led the two to pen new tunes favouring synth-laden orchestration and clear beats on Art Oracles Songbook. The 13 new songs on the album were all written by the Kurdyak sisters, with contributions from Kate Gillespie, Kaitlyn Hansen-Boucher and Mitchell Hyland Schaumberg. Both Hansen-Boucher and Schaumberg were also in The Katherines lineup. The Montreal team of Tim Buron and Connor Seidel, whose past credits include Juno-winning singer Charlotte Cardin, Bobby Bazini and Half Moon Run, were in the production chair. 'The new direction allows us to have a much more full-bodied experience, incorporating visuals and more into the show,' said Lauren Kurdyak. 'That visceral, full-body experience of the booming sub-bass is a new thing. The show we are developing will be the one that goes with us to the festivals we are doing this summer.' It seems unsurprising that, with a more cinematic style, the group has also leaned heavily into extended-form videos. The 2023 track The Beast arrived as a short film running nearly 10 minutes long. 'We originally wanted to integrate a bunch of songs into a much more expanded take on the last album, and kind of took off and played,' said Lauren. 'It was fun to do with the videographer that we regularly work with.' While the 2022 debut generated a host of videos and a lot of touring material written over a long period of time, heading back into the studio for the new album was largely the product of time spent at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Everything from the title to the flow of the track sequencing was born from the experience. 'There is a library at the Banff Centre where you can take out all kinds of materials to inspire you creatively,' said Lauren. 'One of the things was a Tarot deck called Art Oracles with quotes from different poets and philosophers on the cards. We had that in our studio and it just sort of became a really big theme for this new record, which is where the title came from.' Vox Rea is presently on tour in the U.K. and Germany. A busy summer looms, with festival appearances and a fall tour in the planning stages. In the meantime, local fans can celebrate the release in town on June 20 at the Freakout Circus Extravaganza at The Wise Hall in Vancouver. Tickets are on sale at . sderdeyn@
