"The Summer I Turned Pretty" Trivia And Easter Eggs

The Summer I Turned Pretty is one of the most significant teen shows of the decade — and with Season 3 coming out soon, it's the perfect time to dive into the show's behind-the-scenes lore. Here are some interesting facts and Easter eggs you won't want to miss... Lola Tung and Chris Briney, who play Belly and Conrad, had to do their chemistry test over Zoom back in 2021 when the series was in pre-production. And they nailed it! 🔥 Lola fractured her foot while filming the very first episode of Season 1. "We were filming the flashback scene," she revealed. "We were running around the table and I jumped to grab the muffin from Sean and I landed weird and fractured my foot." The show is set in Cape Cod but is filmed in Wilmington, North Carolina, which is a hotspot for teen TV — iconic series Dawson's Creek, One Tree Hill, and the more recent show Outer Banks were also filmed there. Jenny Han, who is both the creator of the show and the author of the books it's based on, has a cameo in each season — in Season 1, she appears at the deb ball, and in Season 2 she's a customer at the gas station. Keep your eyes peeled for her in Season 3. Taylor Swift features heavily on the soundtrack for The Summer I Turned Pretty, which is a nice full-circle detail, considering Jenny Han says she listened to Taylor's album Fearless on loop while writing the original books. Some of Belly's looks in Season 1 were directly inspired by Olivia Hussey as Juliet in the 1968 film version of Romeo and Juliet. Lola Tung went to high school with two of her co-stars — David Iacono, who plays one of her love interests, Cam, and Sean Kaufman, who plays her brother, Steven. The three of them attended LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. The cast seems to have as much fun on set as their characters do — between filming, they do things like play baseball, play chess, game, go on picnics, and have pillow fights. Although they do have tense moments too — Chris revealed Gavin Casalegno, who plays Jeremiah, didn't talk to him after he went "too far" filming a Season 2 scene where Conrad is mean to Jeremiah and Belly. Chris apologized and made up with Gavin. Gavin credits spending all his time at the beach playing beach volleyball and swimming in the ocean with giving him such incredible curls. Jenny Han says she drew on the movie Beaches for inspiration for the platonic soul mates story of Susannah and Laurel. Laurel's memoir being named It's Not Summer Without You is not only an emotional tribute to Susannah, it's a nod to the title of the second book in Jenny Han's original series. There's a small moment in a Season 2 flashback where Laurel knocks over letters Susannah is writing to her sons — foreshadowing a mix-up with them that is a major plot point in book 3 and, presumably, Season 3. Season 2 had all female directors across its eight episodes. Zoe Cassavetes directed Episodes 1 and 2, Isabel Sandoval directed Episodes 3 and 4, Sophia Takal directed Episodes 5 and 6, and Megan Griffiths (pictured above) directed Episodes 7 and 8. In the final episode of Season 2, both Belly and Conrad are bathed in warm light in the motel, while Jeremiah is in the cool lighting — suggesting Belly's heart is ultimately still with Conrad. The Season 3 teaser poster visually references the movie Sabrina. The characters actually go to see Sabrina at the drive-in in Season 1. Like The Summer I Turned Pretty, it's about an "ugly ducking" who gets a glow-up and is pursued by two rich brothers she's grown up with. Many fans believe the poster is a hint that Belly will definitely choose Conrad in the show, like Sabrina chooses Linus (Humphrey Bogart's character). Are you Team Bonrad or Team Jelly? 'It's kind of bizarre,' he says with a laugh. 'I don't know if you can actually get a grasp of it.' Essential reading for hockey fans who eat, sleep, Canucks, repeat. 'When you're in it, it's like when you look in the mirror and you see the imperfections right in the reflection? And you're like, 'Oh, well, this isn't right. This isn't right. This isn't right,'' Murray says. 'I think we tend to get, as humans, hyper focused sometimes on the things that aren't necessarily there. And not on the things that are right.' When you search for 'Chad Michael Murray' on Google these days, the addition of the word 'young' is returned as one of the top search results (Murray says he doesn't Google himself). Thanks to streaming, the actor's fanbase continues to grow among younger generations discovering his early films, like Freaky Friday with Lindsay Lohan and The Cinderella Story with Hilary Duff, on their favourite online platforms. What a blessing in this current world of streaming where One Tree Hill can have another life,' the 43-year-old actor says. 'The fact that (the show) was able to stand the test of time, that is just a wonderful pat on the back that it was a job well done. I feel really blessed to have been a part of it.' Murray cringes at some of his aughts-era fashion picks. 'I just laugh at all the god-awful choices I've made over the years,' he says. 'You know, I had to try it. I had to try to make sure I didn't like it.' As for Murray's first crush — beyond the soda, of course, as the actor says he was a big fan of Crush as a teen — the actor pointed to Dick Tracy-era Madonna as the first to come to mind. 'That was the specific moment I think I realized, like, wait a second, she's pretty,' Murray says of the superstar singer's turn in the 1990 film. Throughout his career, Murray has spent a fair amount of time filming in Hollywood North. 'I absolutely love it,' Murray says of the country. 'I feel so at home. I love filming in Nova Scotia. Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Wife and Kids: Who is the 'Destination X' Host Married To?

Destination X is a fun new reality TV show airing this summer on NBC. Walking Dead and Walking Dead: Dead City star Jeffrey Dean Morgan is taking on hosting duties for the competition series that "takes players on the adventure of a lifetime as they race to answer one simple question… where in the world are they? Each incredible new location brings them closer to a life-changing cash prize." Morgan has been a staple in Hollywood for nearly 35 years, but you may not know that he is married to a fellow star, actress Hilarie Burton. Here's what you need to know about them. In 2009, Morgan was set up on a blind date with Burton by his Supernatural co-star Jensen Ackles and his wife, Danneel Harris Ackles. Burton and Harris Ackles co-starred on One Tree Hill together. Morgan and Burton hit it off, and the rest is history. They share two children: son Augustus "Gus", 15, and daughter George, 7. They married in October 2019, with Jensen Ackles officiating the ceremony, and they now reside on a working farm in Rhinebeck in upstate New York's Hudson Valley. Burton has been candid on Instagram about their struggle to have children. The pair endured several miscarriages on the way to having Gus and George. When George was born, Burton wrote on Instagram, "It took a long time for Jeffrey and I to have this baby. The first time I got pregnant, it took a year and a half. I surprised him on Christmas with baby Seahawk booties. We cried. We celebrated. We picked out names. And we lost that baby. More losses followed, and as so many couples know, it was heartbreaking. It still is heartbreaking." Burton added, "When this pregnancy started, we were cautious. I didn't want to celebrate for fear of jinxing it. I didn't want a baby shower. I checked her heartbeat every day, up until the day she was born. And now that she is here, I just stare at her in wonder all day. I see her in her daddy's arms, and I don't take any of it for granted." Destination X airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on NBC. 🎬 SIGN UP for Parade's Daily newsletter to get the latest pop culture news & celebrity interviews delivered right to your inbox 🎬 Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Wife and Kids: Who is the 'Destination X' Host Married To? first appeared on Parade on May 27, 2025

Barbara Alyn Woods Turned Down Another Role to Take a Chance on 'One Tree Hill'

Barbara Alyn Woods revealed she was only supposed to be on 'One Tree Hill' for three episodes She declined an offer to be on another show to take a chance on the teen drama Woods ended up starring on 'OTH' for the majority of the show's nine-season runBarbara Alyn Woods originally wasn't supposed to be on One Tree Hill for more than three episodes. Woods, 63, revealed her character, Deb Scott, wasn't meant for the long haul during an appearance on the Drama Queens podcast, hosted by former costars Bethany Joy Lenz and Robert Buckley. "What was the sort of initial concept of Deb? How big of a role were you supposed to have, and what did it look like?" Buckley asked. "Deb was a three-episode arc," Woods confessed to the shock of both Buckley and Lenz. Despite being slated for just a short stint on the show, Woods said she took a big leap of faith, hoping showrunners might change their mind. "I was on another show at the same time, not a regular, but a recurring role in L.A.," Woods recalled. "I knew that One Tree Hill wanted me for three episodes. I was in love with this character. I was in love with the show, the writing." "I don't think I saw into the future that I would be there further than three episodes, but I really wanted those three episodes," she added. "I had to choose between the two shows. And the other show would have possibly taken me further as well. I had to choose, and I chose One Tree Hill, knowing that it was only three episodes." While Woods didn't name the other show she was debating, she was notably working on Providence and American Dreams around the same time. Her gut instincts were right, and, of course, fans of the teen drama know that she stayed on for far more than just three episodes. "They extended, and I never went home," she recalled. "So after three episodes, they said, 'Well, they wanna keep you here.' So I didn't even pack for it. I never even went home." Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. Woods ended up playing the mother of James Lafferty's character, Nathan Scott, for the majority of the show's run. Woods, Lenz and Buckley joked that the direction of her character changed from "boring" to a "cautionary tale" as the series went on. However, Woods said "it was so much fun" playing a character that went off the rails a bit. "My theory is that the writers on One Tree Hill really wrote for us as they got to know us," Woods said. "Maybe wrote to our strengths, maybe added some comedy or not, and maybe tried to press some buttons, some emotional buttons where we didn't want them pressed." One Tree Hill ran for nine seasons, from 2003 to 2012. It can be streamed in full on Hulu and Max. Read the original article on People
