Digital transactions in passenger ticketing gets a boost in Palakkad Division, says DRM Madhukar Roat
Divisional Railway Manager of Southern Railway's Palakkad Division Madhukar Roat on Friday, August 15, said digital transactions in passenger ticket booking has grown to 70% in the reserved segment while it has reached 50% in the unreserved ticket booking. Delivering the Independence Day address at the Divisional headquarters in Palakkad, Mr. Roat said 101 automatic ticket vending machines with 212 facilitators in 26 stations, including Mangaluru Central, account for 66% of unreserved ticket booking while unreserved ticketing system (UTS) on mobile accounts for 11% of tickets bought. Improved earnings Mr. Roat said gross earnings from originating revenue up to July 2025 stood at ₹598 crore, up by 3% compared to ₹580 crore last year. Capital expenditure reached ₹230 crore, showing a 45.56% increase compared to last year — a clear indicator of investment in infrastructure and services. Passenger revenue stood at ₹353 crore, reflecting a 6% growth over the same period last year, he added. Up to July 2025, the division carried 29.33 million passengers against the target of 27.42 million, surpassing it by 7%. Highlighting the division's progress over the past year, including station redevelopment works at 16 locations under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, Mr. Roat said Mahe and Vadakara were already inaugurated and five more stations were set for completion next month. The division maintained a punctuality rate of 94% and recorded zero consequential accidents, supported by rigorous safety measures. Freight loading exceeded targets, new train services were launched and several existing trains were extended or augmented to meet passenger demand. Passenger amenities saw significant upgrades, including lifts, escalators, air-conditioned waiting halls, advanced ticketing facilities, and digital service enhancements. In sustainability, 628 kWp of solar power was installed and a 1,700 kWp solar plant was planned, expected to save over ₹1 crore annually. Infrastructure improvements, including complete track renewal between Walayar and Palakkad, replacement of over 3,800 steel channel sleepers, and bridge rehabilitation have strengthened safety and operational efficiency. The Railway Protection Force enhanced passenger security through initiatives like Meri Saheli and Operation Amanat, assisting over 34,000 women passengers, recovering property worth ₹1.74 crore and seizing narcotics valued at ₹4.09 crore.

RPF's cyber cell tracks, recovers lost mobiles
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The cyber cell of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the South Central Railway (SCR) has dealt with 169 complaints of stolen mobiles in July. Out of these complaints, the cell blocked 139 mobile phones, traced 52 devices, recovered 21 mobile phoned and returned 9 phones to the owners, show official data. "The RPF of SCR has intensified its efforts under 'Operation Amanat' by effectively leveraging digital tools to trace and recover lost mobile phones. Through the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal, the Cyber Cell has been driving the recovery operations across the zone," said A Sridhar, chief public relations officer of SCR. SCR authorities said the RPF is authorized to facilitate the recovery of lost devices only when the incident is reported and registered through Rail Madad, and no FIR has been lodged by the complainant in the case. "The CEIR portal enables IMEI-based tracking and blocking of lost or stolen devices. However, it is the RPF's dedicated Cyber Cell that has been leading mobile recovery efforts across the zone," Sridhar said. SCR general manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava said that the RPF Cyber Cell has become a key force in restoring stolen or misplaced property through digital intelligence. RPF restores lost bag with valuables to passenger
Mysuru: In a commendable display of honesty and efficiency, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of South Western Railway, Mysuru division, recovered and returned a vanity bag containing valuables worth Rs 1,49,465 to a female passenger under its ongoing initiative, Operation Amanat. Teja, a resident of Kadur, inadvertently left behind her vanity bag while alighting from train No. 16589 at Kadur railway station on May 21. Upon receiving a complaint via the RailMadad. the grievance redressal portal, the RPF escort team sprang into action, conducting a prompt onboard search. The bag was successfully located and secured by the team, and handed over to the RPF post at Davanagere. Following thorough verification, the bag — containing approximately 15 grams of gold jewellery and two iPhone chargers — was returned to the rightful owner on May 22. Senior divisional commissioner of RPF, Mysuru, Sam Prasanth JR., lauded the team's swift action and commitment to duty. He highlighted that during the financial year 2024–25, the RPF successfully returned lost belongings on 197 occasions, with recovered items valued at Rs 52.6 lakh. Operation Amanat is a dedicated drive by the RPF to trace and return misplaced or lost passenger belongings, reinforcing the force's role not just in security, but also in public service. The passenger extended heartfelt thanks to the RPF personnel for their integrity and prompt response.

RPF Mysuru returns lost baggage worth ₹52.62 lakh to passengers in 2024-25
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) of the Mysuru Division has recovered lost baggage of passengers and returned to their rightful owners 197 times in 2024-25, and the authorities have pegged the value of these items at ₹52.62 lakh. The recovery of lost baggage and returning them to the passengers takes place under Operation Amanat across the country. In the Mysuru Division, the RFP personnel have traced the lost baggage 197 times, the latest being on May 21 when the RPF recovered and returned a vanity bag containing gold ornaments and electronic items worth ₹1,49,465 to a lady passenger. A release stated that on May 21, 2025, Teja, a resident of Kadur, left her bag on Train No. 16589 while deboarding at the Kadur Railway Station. On realising that she had left behind her bag, Ms. Teja filed a complaint and the RPF escort team immediately launched an onboard search and located the bag. It was handed over to the RPF Post at Davangere. After due verification, the belongings, including 15 gram of gold jewellery and two iPhone chargers, were returned to the rightful owner the next day. Senior Divisional Commissioner, RPF Mysuru, J.R. Sam Prasanth, praised the team's efforts in retrieving the lost bag and returning it to the rightful owner. Ms. Teja expressed her gratitude to the RPF for its swift response.
