After Elon Musk's Tesla, another US company enters Indian market, to make…, these things to get cheaper because… Electronics contract manufacturer Optiemus Infracom Wednesday, announced the launch of locally made tempered glass screen protectors for mobile phones, manufactured in collaboration with US-based Corning. The screen protectors will be sold under the brand name RhinoTech. Global companies are understanding the potential and opportunities in the vast Indian market and that is why they are entering it. Recently, Elon Musk's EV car company Tesla made its debut in India, giving a tough challenge to automobile giants. Following this, another American company is about to enter the Indian market. Bharat Innovative Glass Technologies is a joint venture of America's glass technology company Corning and Optimus Infracom. The company is expected to start its operations in December this year. Under this venture, the company will manufacture high-quality cover glass for electronic items such as mobile phones. Now the question in people's minds is whether this will reduce the price of smartphones in India. First Of Its Kind Plant This will be first of its kind of plant in India and will manufacture glass covers in large quantities. Notably, the demand for glass cover is increasing in India and the company will play a crucial part in meeting the demand. Cover glass is a safety layer which is applied on the screen of the photo protect it from scratches and damage. These glass covers or popularly known as Corning Gorilla Glasses. The covers have been used in over eight billion devices of more than 45 big brands like Samsung, Xiaomi, Motorola, Oppo, Google Pixel and Huawei. The RhinoTech Optiemus Infracom has recently launched a new range of tempered glasses – RhinoTech . It is 'Made in India'. Optiemus' chairman says that global technology and innovation have been combined in it. Will Smartphones Become Cheaper? After the announcement of this new initiative, many are wondering this will lead to lower smartphone prices in India. However, no details have been revealed on this matter so far. It is expected that producing glass protection locally could lead to a decrease in overall phone costs, potentially resulting in lower prices for consumers.

New Delhi: Optiemus Infracom in partnership with US-based Corning Inc on Wednesday announced that it will manufacture tempered glass screen protectors for smartphones in India. Noida-based firm claimed that it is the first company in India to locally produce advanced-grade screen protectors featuring Corning glass technology.'We are committed to establishing India as a global hub for high-value mobile accessories," said Ashok Kumar Gupta, Chairman, Optiemus Infracom company will produce premium tempered glass screen protectors under the brand 'RhinoTech'. It targets around Rs 2,000 crore revenue from the tempered glass business by March 2027. Majority of the tempered glass used for protecting smartphone screens in India is imported from informed that RhinoTech screen protectors will be manufactured at Optiemus' facility in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. 'Our state-of-the-art manufacturing plant enables RhinoTech to reliably meet the growing demand of Indian consumers while maintaining consistent quality and widespread availability across the nation,' Optiemus said in a screen protectors will initially be available for the premium smartphone category. The company plans to expand its offerings to cater to other categories, including the economy smartphone category, in the coming RhinoTech products will be available in the Indian market starting end of September 2025 through the official RhinoTech website and authorised dealers/retail chains in select cities.'We are excited to work with Optiemus to help offer Indian consumers the choice of a screen protector that is marked as Engineered by Corning. We believe that this development will support the country's growing need for providing screen protectors for the mobile consumer electronics industry,' said Sudhir Pillai, Managing Director, Corning tempered glass screen protectors market is valued at around Rs 20,000 crore. NEW DELHI: Homegrown Optiemus Infracom has partnered with the US-based Corning to manufacture the ' RhinoTech ' branded tempered glass screen protectors in India. Optiemus, in a statement Wednesday, said that it is expecting a revenue of ₹1,800-2,000 crore by the end of fiscal year 2027, following the launch of the tempered glass protectors. The RhinoTech tempered glass screen protectors, engineered by Corning, will be made in India at Optiemus' facility in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Citing third-party estimates, Optiemus said India's screen protector market size was valued $2.5 billion in 2024, and will double to $5 billion by 2030. According to the company, the Indian domestic market for tempered glass screen protectors is estimated to be 400 million pieces with a retail value of ₹20,000 crore in 2025, highlighting its vast potential. Currently, over 90% demand is met through low-cost imports, leading to inconsistent quality and an unorganized market. Ahead of Optiemus' announcement, the Central government introduced a standard for 'Chemically Tempered Glass Screen Protectors' via the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on July 28, 2025. Optiemus said in a statement that the RhinoTech tempered glass screen protectors are Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS)-certified and will be initially available for the premium smartphone category in the coming months, with eventual expansion to other segments. The protectors will also be available for purchase from RhinoTech's website from September 2025-end via authorised dealers as well as retail chains in select cities. 'We believe that these screen protectors using glass engineered by Optiemus will be a game-changer in transforming a fragmented market into an organised, quality-driven ecosystem that benefits consumers and the industry,' said Ashok Kumar Gupta, chairman, Optiemus Infracom, in a joint statement. 'We believe that this development will support the country's growing need for providing screen protectors for the mobile consumer electronics industry,' said Sudhir Pillai, managing director, Corning India. Nirmod Kumar, director, Ministry of Electronics and IT (MeitY), said at the event that India's mobile phone production is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 30-35% over the next five to six years, which will boost the demand for tempered glass protectors. "We are entering the second phase of (electronics) government has already notified a scheme for electronics components manufacturing, and there is a separate programme for semiconductor manufacturing," he said. Pankaj Mohindroo, chairman, India Cellular and Electronics Association (ICEA), said that the mobile accessories segment has often been overlooked, but has a huge potential to generate employment and can become globally competitive. "Accessories can have a very big global market. All of us must seriously consider building this segment indigenously," he added.

Optiemus Infracom targets ₹2,000 cr revenue from tempered glass screens

Electronics manufacturer Optiemus Infracom expects revenue of Rs 1,800-2,000 crore in the financial year 2027 from its tempered glass screen protectors business, a top company official said on Wednesday. The company launched RhinoTech -- Made-in-India Tempered Glass Screen Protectors, which uses glass engineered by Corning. Optiemus Infracom Chairman Ashok Kumar Gupta said that RhinoTech brings global technology and innovation with enhanced hygienic benefits like anti-microbial glass. "It is the first time in India that such advanced screen protection, developed with glass from Corning Incorporated, will be produced locally and made available for both domestic and international markets. We expect additional revenue of Rs 1,800-2,000 crore in financial year 2027 from RhinoTech business," Gupta said. RhinoTech screen protectors will be manufactured at Optiemus' facility in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.
