Just how deep were the 1986 Boston Celtics?
Just how deep were the 1986 Boston Celtics?
The Boston Celtics championship teams of the mid-1980s were not just the Larry Bird show, or even the Original Big Three show, with the team bringing a lot more depth than just the Hick From French Lick, Robert Parish, and Kevin McHale. Those three Hall of Famers formed the core of the 1986 Celtics of course (widely seen as the deepest Celtics and maybe any NBA team of all time), but in '86 in particular, they had a truly legendary supporting cast.
Among them, we can include future Boston President of Basketball Operations Danny Ainge, fellow Hall of Famer and Sixth Man of the Year legend Bill Walton, Greg Kite, Jerry Sichting, Sam Vincent, and Rick Carlisle, just to name a few.
In light of the popularity of the new "Celtics City" documentary series currently out now, the folks behind the "NBC Sports Boston" YouTube channel dusted off their "'86 Celtics" documentary to look back on that gilded era of Boston basketball. Check it out below!
