Outlander fans 'confused' over Brian Fraser's death
Jamie Fraser, played by Sam Heughan, often references his father Brain Fraser in the hit Starz show - with his story set to be detailed further in Blood Of My Blood spin-off. Some Outlander fans have been left confused following the death of Jamie Fraser's father in the screen adaptation of the books. Jamie, played by Scots actor Sam Heughan, often referred to his dad although we only seen him briefly. To the delight of fans that will change, with the spin-off Blood Of My Blood telling the tale of both Jamie and Claire Fraser's parents. Jamie's dad, Brian Fraser, died just mere days after Highland warrior Jamie's second flogging from Captain Jack Randall. And although it made it clear what happened in Diana Gabaldon 's books, it appears the Starz adaptation made the details a little murkier, leaving some confused. Taking to discussion platform Reddit, one fan questioned: "Brian Fraser collapsed and died at the prison while witnessing Jamie being beaten by Black Jack. "But in Season 5, Episode 3, Mr. Beardsley has apoplexy. Jamie tells Claire not to ever let him suffer like his father, Brian? who had apoplexy, while Jenny took care of him. Confused." Clearing up the confusion, one fan pointed out: "I don't think he dies at the prison. He collapsed there, was brought home to Lallybroch, Jenny cared for him for a few days and then he died." Confirming the above, one fan of the book franchise quoted Diana Gabaldon's series, stating: "He didn't die at Fort William. He died at Lallybroch in his bed. Echo in the bone chapter 84." Someone else added, "Jamie had fainted when his father died, he did not see him die. People told him he died of apoplexy when he thought his only living son died. Jamie assumed Brian died quickly. When he saw Mr Beadsley's state and Claire told him it was apoplexy, he was shocked to realize that maybe his father suffered and didn't die at once. That's why he told Claire not to let him suffer like that if he has one." Noting where the confusion may have came from, one fan pointed out, "TBF it does make sense for Jamie to consider seeing his father collapsing as seeing his father die, even if it actually took a day or two for him to draw his last breath.." Someone else added, "Jamie didn't know at the time if Brian survived beyond the initial stroke. He had always assumed that he had just dropped and died instantly but was deeply disturbed by seeing Beardsley because it put the idea in his head that his father may have lingered on in that state foe a prolonged period of time. He didn't know for sure until he spoke to Jenny about it." Meanwhile, new series Blood of My Blood will focus on Jamie's parents, Ellen MacKenzie (portrayed by Pennyworth's Harriet Slater) and Brian Fraser (Condor's Nest's Jamie Roy), as well as Claire's parents, Julia Moriston (We Hunt Together's Hermione Corfield) and Henry Beauchamp (Treadstone's Jeremy Irvine). "The series will centre on these two parallel love stories set in two different eras, with Jamie's parents in the early 18th-century Scottish Highlands and Claire's parents in WWI England," according to the official synopsis. Matthew B. Roberts, the showrunner of Outlander, will also serve as the showrunner and executive producer on the spin-off series. The first season will compose of 10 episodes. Maril Davis and Ronald D. Moore will also join as executive producers, with Outlander author Diana Gabaldon acting as a consulting producer. Announcing the premier date of the prequel as August 8, the official Starz social media account on Instagram wrote, "Can true love overcome rival clans? Experience Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser's story in Outlander: Blood of My Blood premiering August 8 on STARZ."

‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood' confirms late Brian McCardie will not be recast to honour his memory: 'We want to preserve his work'
'Outlander: Blood of My Blood' has recently confirmed that, in order to honour the memory of the late actor , they will not be reprising or recasting his role on the popular show following his sudden death. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Brian McCardie's character to be honoured, no recasting According to reports from Entertainment Weekly, the late Brian McCardie's character on the show will not be cast again. The prequel series was in production in spring last year when the actor passed away suddenly due to unforeseen circumstances. Brian had originally appeared in a key role in the first season of 'Outlander' in 2015, where he played Sir Marcus MacRannoch. In this prequel series, however, he was meant to take on a new role as Isaac Grant. One of the producers said, 'We lost Brian McCardie. He's Isaac Grant, and no one could ever be Isaac Grant other than him. We had a plan for him going forward. If there is going to be a season 2, we would've planned a story for him because he's just such a powerful character.' He went on to praise McCardie's work on set, saying, 'Every scene he was in, he just brought the level up, and you just go, 'Oh my god, I want to see more of him.' ' McCardie's role to be 'preserved' The producer also explained that, rather than redoing the scenes with a new actor, the creative team agreed that his character must be respected. He said, 'It was a tragedy, but the one thing we wanted to do after we took a beat to grieve was decide that we want to preserve his work. We don't want to recast and reshoot. We want to preserve that.' It was also revealed that because the original plotline could not be followed, the writers began working on a parallel alternative. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This was done to avoid damaging the show's plot and to accurately preserve the late Brian's role on screen. He added, 'We had to figure out a way to go down the road that we wanted to go down, but it was going to be a parallel road. It wasn't going to be the same road. So, we created a whole new character to take on some of that storyline. But it won't be the same storyline that we were planning.' More about 'Outlander: Blood of My Blood' The prequel series of 'Outlander' has finished production and is set to premiere on 8 August. The story follows Jamie Fraser's and Claire Beauchamp's parents as the two couples navigate their love stories in 18th-century Scotland and World War I England, respectively. The show will follow two separate stories in two different timelines, offering viewers and fans a unique and fresh perspective on storytelling.

Warning issued as 33 die of drowning in waters across Scotland in past year
The number of people who accidentally drowned hit peak numbers in May last year. The National Water Safety Forum is warning the public of the dangers of cold water shock. A total of 33 people lost their lives in accidental drownings in Scotland last year which has prompted a fresh safety warning about the dangers of water during the summer. The National Water Safety Forum (NWSF) has issued urgent advice following a spike in fatalities, particularly seen in May last year, where 28 people died across the UK - the highest monthly toll of the year. It comes after the recent tragedy of 21-year-old student Marwan Sulaiman Al Balushi, who drowned at the Devil's Pulpit in Finnich Glen, near Croftamie, Stirlingshire, on May 21. Marwan, a data science student at the University of Strathclyde, was visiting the scenic gorge with friends when he encountered difficulties crossing a deeper section of the current. Despite a brave rescue attempt by one of his companions, Marwan could not be saved. His devastated family described him as 'kind, intelligent, and full of life, love, and curiosity.' They said: 'We never imagined that this would be the last time we would hear his voice. "Marwan was kind, intelligent, and brought light into every room he walked into. This loss has shattered our family. I pray no other parent ever has to feel this pain.' The Devil's Pulpit, made famous by its appearance in TV series Outlander, has become a popular but hazardous destination. The steep, slippery terrain and cold water have led to multiple rescue operations in recent years. The figures released by NWSF show that 61% of accidental drownings happen in inland waterways such as rivers, canals, lakes, reservoirs and quarries. Professor Mike Tipton, NWSF chairman and expert at the University of Portsmouth's Extreme Environments Laboratory, warned: 'Each one of these fatalities represents a tragedy and the loss of many years of life. All those involved have my deepest condolences. 'The National Water Safety Forum will continue to work tirelessly to reduce drownings in the UK through data-driven education, interventions, communication, and campaigns.' Prof Tipton highlighted the dangers of cold water shock, even during warmer months, noting that many inland waters remain below 16°C. Sudden immersion can cause involuntary gasping, rapid breathing, and loss of swimming ability, potentially leading to drowning. Males make up 84% of deaths and of the 193 confirmed fatalities in the UK, 136 were in England, 33 in Scotland, 18 in Wales, and six in Northern Ireland. Of these, 28 occurred in May, 25 in August and 21 in July. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today. A University of Portsmouth spokeswoman said: "May 2024 was the month with the most accidental water-related fatalities, with 28 lives tragically lost. "Sadly, we know that when air temperatures increase, we often see a rise in accidental drownings. "With more hot weather promised across the UK in the coming weeks, increasing numbers of people will be spending time on or near the water. "The National Water Safety Forum (NWSF) is reminding everyone to enjoy the water safely by being aware of the risks, and by knowing how to help themselves and others in an emergency."

MMNZ rewards Diamond Dealers in a year of growth
Mitsubishi Motors New Zealand (MMNZ) increased its sales and market share in 2024. Recently it celebrated the standout performers contributing to those results at its annual Diamond Dealer awards. The ceremony was held at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort on May 19. While the total market fell by 14 per cent last year, MMNZ grew its overall share to 11.7 per cent with 14,156 registrations. That is an almost six per cent increase from the previous calendar year. And it cemented its third-place position. ASX and Outlander models were the second and third most popular passenger vehicles in 2024. Triton the third most popular light commercial vehicle. Eclipse Cross was the fourth Mitsubishi amongst the top ten, in sixth position. MMNZ Chief Operating Officer Tony Johnston commented: 'In a challenging market, it's exceptional value and customer service that will help to get you across the line. 'These are both things that customers associate with our brand and which is why, while the broader market contracted, we continued to build momentum.' That momentum continues into 2025, with MMNZ holding second place in the market with 4116 registrations as of April. 'That's also a testament to the resilience and commitment of our dealers across the country, and the enduring strength of our vehicle range,' said Johnston. 'We never rest on our laurels – as a business or at a dealer level – and the hard work continues across every aspect of sales, parts and service. 'Our annual Diamond Dealer event is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the very best of our high-achieving teams across the country and incentivise next year's winners. 'I'd like to congratulate our 2025 winners and say a big thank you to all of our dealers and their teams for never losing sight of the fact that our success is only ever measured in the satisfaction and loyalty of our customers.' 2025 Diamond Dealer winners and MMNZ Executive Team at the Sheraton Fiji Golf and Beach Resort Bay City Mitsubishi Brendan Foot Mitsubishi Delaney Mitsubishi Mexted Mitsubishi Morrison Mitsubishi Sockburn Piako Mitsubishi Morrinsville WR Phillips Mitsubishi Baigent Motors Cavanagh Motors 2025 Supreme Diamond Dealer: Morrison Mitsubishi Sockburn Mike Morrison First-time Diamond Dealer Morrison Mitsubishi Sockburn stole the headlines at this year's awards. 'Outlander': Season 7 Blu-Ray Review - Beloved Series Continues To Surprise As The End Draws Near
Following the harrowing events of season six, Jamie and Young Ian race to rescue Claire before she's tried and wrongfully convicted of murder. But their mission is complicated by the beginning of a geopolitical firestorm: The American Revolution has arrived. In the seventh season of OUTLANDER, Jamie, Claire and their family are caught in the violent birth pains of an emerging nation as armies march to war and British institutions crumble in the face of armed rebellion. The land the Frasers call home is changing — and they must change with it. In order to protect what they've built, the Frasers have to navigate the perils of the Revolutionary War. They learn that sometimes to defend what you love, you have to leave it behind. As the conflict draws them out of North Carolina and into the heart of this fight for independence, Jamie, Claire, Brianna and Roger are faced with impossible decisions that have the potential to tear their family apart. For in-depth thoughts on Outlander: The Complete Seventh Season, please see my colleague Martin Sexton's reviews from its original television debut below: Video Quality Outlander: The Complete Seventh Season arrives on Blu-Ray courtesy of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment with a glorious AVC encoded 1080p transfer of all 16 episodes spread over six discs. This transfer showcases a stunning amount of discrete detail within the period costumes and thorough production design. Skin tones appear very natural throughout the season, and compression artifacts and noise are virtually nonexistent. The lush cinematography of this series always looks impeccable in high definition, and this season is no different. This transfer captures every glorious aspect as perfectly as one could hope. The series remains immaculate with a complex color palette revealing deep hues within the backgrounds. Black levels are deep, giving way to rich detail within the shadows. The highlights are likewise brilliant and avoid any instances of blooming in this presentation. The Blu-Ray presentation is top-tier on all fronts and represents a standout effort from Sony. Audio Quality This Blu-Ray comes with a dynamic DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track that brings this journey to life with the utmost precision. Dialogue is a key element of the show, and it springs forth clearly without being overwhelmed by any parallel sounds. The moving score on the show is often grand and immersive in the best way, as it juggles the more volatile moments as well as the subtle stretches. Ambient sounds are carefully placed in the rear channels. The environmental sounds memorably engage the surround speakers to make things feel all-encompassing. Even when you are simply observing the landscapes, this track delivers on all fronts. The more kinetic moments know how to pack a punch in the low end response. The audio track never comes up short. Special Features Deleted Scene: Brief scenes are provided from most of the episodes of moments that were cut primarily for pacing reasons, but prove to be an entertaining addition for fans. A Life Well Lost (1:28) The Happiest Place On Earth (5:11) Death Be Not Proud (2:57) A Most Uncomfortable Woman (1:52) Unfinished Business (6:05) A Hundredweight of Stones (2:38) Ye Dinna Get Used To It (1:28) A Hundred Thousand Angels (3:28) Outlander Untold: An array of bonus stories from the Outlander universe are provided to help flesh out the world more for fans. Syzygy (6:28) A Visitor At Valley Forge (6:24) A Good Man (6:51) Ablution (6:13) Blooper Reel (12:20) Final Thoughts Outlander has always been a show determined not to become complacent with its storytelling, and fans have been rewarded with complex characters, thrilling surprises, and rich narratives that always keep us returning for more. As we start to get closer to the end of the line, we can feel the story picking up the pace considerably, occasionally to a fault. This penultimate season bounces back from a truncated season with a mighty episode haul that often reminds us why we love the show so much, even with the writer's strike impacting the flow in a few different respects. The pacing is somewhat erratic, but we still love embarking on this incredible journey as we continue to grow with these characters (and say goodbye to some). We are not sure if we are prepared for this to officially conclude, but we are excited to see if everything can come together satisfactorily. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has released a Blu-Ray featuring a top-notch A/V presentation and a fine assortment of supplemental features. Recommended Outlander: The Complete Seventh Season is currently available to purchase on Blu-Ray and DVD. Note: Images presented in this review are not reflective of the image quality of the Blu-Ray.
