Diddly Squat farm in heartbreaking TB outbreak

Jeremy Clarkson is facing heartbreak on his Diddly Squat Farm with a positive result for TB in his beloved herd of cattle. The former Top Gear host has been posting on social media about the latest bout of bad luck to hit Diddly Squat this year. Posting on X, (Twitter) the Clarkson said 'Bad news from Diddly Squat. We've gone down with TB. Everyone here is absolutely devastated. Pic: Gareth Fuller/PA Archive Bovine Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease of cattle and is caused by the bacterium 'Mycobacterium Bovis', which can also infect and cause disease in many other animals including goats, pigs, deer, badgers and even domestic cats and dogs. But in cattle its mainly a respiratory disease and can shut down an entire farm if an animal even tests borderline for the disease. This means no movement of livestock in or out of a farm until the herd is declared disease free. Clarkson has been very upfront about all of the hardships involved in keeping Diddly Squat Farm afloat, with bad weather and torrential rain drowning all of the freshly planted crops earlier this year, to the issues with dried up fields during the heatwave in June and July. He wrote in the Times newspaper how hot and unpredictable weather had been wreaking havoc on his crops. He said: 'It used to be reasonably predictable, but it just isn't anymore. In March Diddly Squat had no rain at all. Not even a drop. In April we got 20mm, which in old money is bugger all.' And so far in May we've had 4mm. You couldn't keep a window box going with a dribble like that. It's been drier than it was in 1976. And while we do have about thirty springs on the farm, they're all in the wrong place. So my onions and my beetroots are just sitting in the dust. 'The wheat, meanwhile, is curling up, the barley won't really get cracking at all and I dread to think what manner of terribleness is being foisted on my poor potatoes.' But the cattle testing positive for TB is another very serious issue for the farm, and Clarkson has been keeping fans of the TV programme up to date with news of the animal infected, saying she is pregnant with twin calves and will sadly have to be culled. Pic: James Veysey/REX/Shutterstock Clarkson who runs Diddly Squat farm along with her partner – Irish born Lisa Hogan says he is absolutely devastated with the news that one of his cows, who is carrying twin calves has tested positive for the disease. The presenter clarified that Diddly Squat has 'bovine TB', which doesn't affect people but rather the cattle that live on the farm. In response to one fan sharing well wishes and hopes for the cows' recoveries, Clarkson replied: 'They have to be culled. It's the law.' He also shared that he hoped his Aberdeen Angus bull who is named 'Endgame' would be OK with the ongoing infection, noting that his test was 'inconclusive'.

US woman accused of murder plot claims she flew to UK for birthday celebrations

Aimee Betro, 45, is alleged to have flown from Wisconsin as part of a plot orchestrated by co-conspirators Mohammed Aslam, 56, and Mohammed Nabil Nazir, 31, of Elms Avenue in Derby, to attack a rival family on September 7, 2019. A trial has heard allegations that Betro disguised her appearance with a niqab when she tried to shoot Sikander Ali at point blank range outside his home in Measham Grove, Birmingham, but the gun jammed, allowing Mr Ali to flee. Aimee Betro is standing trial at Birmingham Crown Court (PA Archive) Giving evidence in her defence on Monday, Betro, from Wisconsin, told Birmingham Crown Court she had slept with Nazir at an Airbnb during a visit to the UK spanning December 2018 and January 2019. Betro, who denies conspiracy to murder, possessing a self-loading pistol and a charge of fraudulently evading the prohibition on importing ammunition, said she did not meet Nazir – who she 'had feelings for' – during a second visit to the UK in May 2019. In her evidence, Betro said the first two visits had seen her doing 'touristy' things such as attending music events, viewing street art in east London, visiting a friend in Birmingham and taking care of a dog 'at someone's house in the middle of England'. Asked why she had paid a third visit to the UK, arriving at Manchester Airport from Atlanta around two weeks before the shooting, Betro told jurors: 'To celebrate my birthday and I won tickets for another boat party in London. 'And there was another little festival that was at Crystal Palace that I wanted to go to.' Betro's barrister, Paul Lewis KC, asked her what she thought of Nazir after meeting him on a dating app, communicating with him via Snapchat and meeting him in London. Betro answered: 'He was charming and I did like him. He was sweet and I did have feelings for him.' She told the court 'I would guess so' when asked if she thought Nazir had feelings for her, but added that she was not trying to build a relationship with him because they lived in different countries. Standing up in the witness box, Betro, wearing a casual round-necked navy blue top and square-rimmed glasses, began her evidence by giving personal details, including her height as being 5ft 5ins. During her evidence, Betro was asked about messages between her and Nazir which referred to a gun broker website and a silencer. She said she did not remember the message referring to a broker, but told the court she had posted 'gaming things' relating to an an old gaming system. She also told the court she had lived at an address in West Allis, Winsconsin, from 2013 to 2019 and had 'a couple of different degrees' in early childhood education and graphic design. The Crown alleges that Betro returned to the scene hours after the shooting and fired three shots into Mr Ali's house, which was empty at the time, before leaving the UK and flying back to the US the next day. The court heard father and son Aslam and Nazir, who were jailed last year for their part in the bungled assassination plot, were involved in a feud with Mr Ali's father, Aslat Mahumad. Nazir and Aslam had been injured during disorder at Mr Mahumad's clothing boutique in Birmingham in July 2018, jurors have been told, leading them to conspire to have someone kill him or a member of his family. The trial continues.

A history of protests against Donald Trump in Scotland

The US president is also set to meet with Scotland's First Minister John Swinney as well as Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Will there be protests? There are certainly many planned. READ MORE: Donald Trump protest planned near mother's birthplace during Scotland visit It wouldn't be the first time, either. Over the years, there have been many events held in Scotland protesting the now US president. Even before he was elected for the first time in 2016, Scots have publicly called out the American whose mother, Mary Ann, was born in the Isle of Lewis. Take Scottish farmer Michael Forbes, who has long been butting heads with Trump. The saga began in 2006 when Trump bought part of the Menie Estate. Residents were concerned about the environmental impact that the 18-hole course would have and Forbes and his family mounted a particularly large amount of vocal and public opposition against it in the years since. On January 30, 2017, just after Trump was made US president for the first time, demonstrators flocked to the streets of Edinburgh and marched from the Mound to the Scottish Parliament (below). (Image: Photo by) The protesters took particular issue with the ban on Muslims travelling to the USA which he had just brought in. During his first state visit in 2018, groups gathered outside of Trump Turnberry to boo the president while he played an afternoon game of golf. They also flew a paraglider around the area with a message criticising the president's first term. Here are some other demonstrators (below) who chose to gather in Glasgow's George Square for the Scotland United Against Trump protest against the state visit. (Image: Lesley Martin/PA Archive/PA Images) The visit also gave birth to an iconic viral moment from Janey Godley. The late comedian arrived at a protest wielding a huge placard with, shall we say, flowery language (below). It immediately went viral across the globe. Now, with Donald Trump soon arriving in Scotland again, there will be a host of protests across the country.
