PAGCOR CEO Tengco, board directors tender courtesy resignations
Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) chairman and CEO Alejandro Tengco on Thursday said he and the board of directors had submitted their courtesy resignations. 'I had filed my courtesy resignation together with the entire PAGCOR Board,' Tengco told GMA News Online. 'We all serve at the pleasure of the President,' he said. The resignations came after the Governance Commission for GOCCs (GCG) directed state-run firms' non-ex-officio chairpersons, chief executive officers (CEOs), and all appointive directors/trustees/members of their respective GOCCs' governing boards to immediately submit their courtesy resignations to the President through the Office of the Executive Secretary. President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had earlier lamented the results of the May 2025 midterm polls —which, according to him, showed that the people were "tired of politics and they are disappointed with the government." Early this month, PAGCOR said it had remitted P12.67 billion in dividends to the Treasury, which represents 75% of its net income for 2024. Last year, the state gaming firm posted a net income of P16.76 billion, up 146% from P6.81 billion in 2023. — VBL, GMA Integrated News

VACC: Marcos' call for courtesy resignations should include PCSO, PAGCOR, others
The Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) said Friday that President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr.'s call for courtesy resignations should extend to the heads of other ''under-performing'' government agencies and corporations. In a statement, the VACC said leaders of government-owned and controlled corporations (GOCCs) such as the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) and Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), as well as Bureaus of Customs and Immigration and the Philippine National Police (PNP) ''should step aside and allow the President to realign government to fulfill its mandate to the people.'' 'Bakit mga Cabinet secretary lang ang pagbibitawin sa puwesto? Dapat kasama din ang mga pinuno ng ahensya tulad ng PCSO at PAGCOR na sinasayang ang kaban ng bayan sa mga gawain na walang totoong pakinabang sa mamamayang Pilipino,' VACC president Arsenio 'Boy' Evangelista said. (Why only Cabinet Secretaries were asked to resign? The call should include heads of agencies such as PCSO and PAGCOR who waste government funds in projects that do not benefit Filipinos.) Evangelista said the PCSO has repeatedly ''fallen into disrepute'' over various issues, including a recent Senate inquiry over alleged corruption within the agency. These issues include the questions on legitimacy of the jackpot winners of the state lotteries, and the reports that PCSO insiders had manipulated or rigged the results to favor certain persons. The PCSO has since denied manipulating lotto results. Meanwhile, as for PAGCOR, Evangelista said the agency has been criticized for allowing illegal POGO operations to run rampant in the country. He added that the Bureau of Customs under the Department of Finance and Bureau of Immigration under the Department of Justice have their own list of controversies that remain unresolved. GMA News Online has reached out to the Palace for its comment on the matter but it has yet to reply as of posting time. Marcos had directed the courtesy resignations of Cabinet secretaries to "recalibrate" his administration after the 2025 national and local elections. He earlier said that results of the May 2025 midterm polls showed that the people are "tired of politics and they are disappointed with the government."
