Razman hopes Perak exco man not given ‘immunity' in caricature probe

Published on: Tuesday, June 03, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jun 03, 2025 By: FMT Reporters Text Size: Perak opposition leader Razman Zakaria (left) has demanded that DAP's Woo Kah Leong apologise over a caricature post deemed offensive. PETALING JAYA: Perak opposition leader Razman Zakaria has urged authorities not to grant any 'immunity' to state executive councillor Woo Kah Leong, who is under police investigation over a social media post featuring an allegedly offensive caricature of him. The Gunong Semanggol assemblyman said he had demanded an apology from Woo, but that none was forthcoming. Instead, he said DAP continued to defend its youth chief's actions. He warned that any failure to act could erode public support for the state government led by Umno and Pakatan Harapan (PH). 'To the Umno-led state government leaders in Perak, like it or not, this is the quality of an exco member from DAP,' he said in a statement. 'If you have any honour, just resign from the exco post because the people are always watching and will judge what happens as a result of such irresponsible behaviour. 'It's not impossible that the people will reject you over this issue.' Police recorded Woo's statement yesterday in connection with the investigation into the allegedly provocative social media post. Woo had posted the caricature on Facebook alongside a statement in April. It depicted Razman as a clown riding a unicycle on a tightrope, labelling the Perak PAS chief as 'raja fitnah' ('the king of slander'). This was believed to be in reference to the various instances in which Razman had apologised to PH leaders over various accusations he had made against them. The PAS man has demanded that Woo apologise openly for the 'provocative' posting. However, Woo has stood by his Facebook post, saying it was not a personal attack but satire. He also said the police report stifled freedom of speech. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Cambodia's two largest state-owned ports disclose net profits in Q1

PHNOM PENH, May 28 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia's two listed state-owned ports, Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS) and Phnom Penh Autonomous Port (PPAP), disclosed their net profits in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, according to their financial reports on Wednesday (May 28). The PAS, the kingdom's largest deepwater seaport, made a net profit of 2.62 million U.S. dollars during the January-March period this year, down 68 per cent compared to the same period last year, said the report filed to the Cambodia Securities Exchange (CSX). "There was an increase of unrealized foreign exchange loss from the Japanese Yen, which led to a decrease in net profit if compared to Q1 of 2024," the report said. Meanwhile, the PPAP, which is the country's second-largest container hub, recorded a net profit of 3.6 million dollars in Q1 of 2025, up 134 percent compared to Q1 of 2024. "The above achievement is because the PPAP has paid attention in providing the service of port operation with transparency and efficiency in responding confidently to the needs of customers," PPAP's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Hei Bavy said in the report. - Xinhua

Perikatan rubbishes claim 10 of its MPs switching sides, calls for proof amid defection rumours

KOTA BARU, June 1 – Perikatan Nasional (PN) has challenged those claiming that 10 of its MPs have pledged support for the government to provide evidence. Utusan Malaysia cited its chief whip Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan saying such allegations were no longer surprising amid the current political atmosphere. 'Why only 10 MPs, when we have 74 seats in Parliament? So, when we hear stories like this, it's not surprising anymore in today's political landscape. 'Some even say 11 government bloc MPs are planning to cross over — who knows?' he asked. PN currently has 68 seats in the Dewan Rakyat — 43 from PAS and 25 from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia. The Malaysian United Democratic Union (Muda) has also joined it in the Opposition bloc. Takiyuddin, who is also PAS secretary-general, reiterated that PN remains confident in the loyalty of its MPs and believes none intend to defect. Reports had earlier surfaced citing unnamed opposition sources alleging that 10 PN MPs had signed a pledge backing the leadership of the Unity Government. The unnamed sources claimed the move was intended to 'safeguard national political stability' and to 'reject efforts to undermine the people's mandate through continued perception warfare.'

DOH launches online Patient Appointment System for check-ups

The Department of Health (DOH) has launched the Patient Appointment System (PAS) for more convenient scheduling of medical check-ups. 'Ito, at least, alam mo na hindi ka masasayangan ng pagbiyahe. Wala kang takot kasi secured na 'yung appointment mo,' Health Secretary Ted Herbosa said. (Using this would save you travel time since your appointment is secured.) The PAS is currently open to three DOH hospitals in Manila: Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center, San Lazaro Hospital, and Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital. DOH said securing appointments using PAS could take about two to three minutes. Here are the steps to using PAS: 1. Visit 2. Confirm that you agree to use the PAS 3. Choose a hospital and the needed service 4. Choose the desired time and date of your appointment 5. Fill out the needed information and screenshot it before submitting 6. Go to the hospital and show the screenshot of your appointment —Mariel Celine Serquiña/KG, GMA Integrated News

From influencer to Islamist: Cleopatra joins PAS to ‘secure children's future', vows commitment to party's spiritual training

KUALA LUMPUR, June 1 – Influencer Nur Fathiah Syazwana Shaharuddin, better known as Cleopatra, has officially joined the Islamist party PAS yesterday, citing the need to provide a better future for her children. PAS' Muslimat Wing posted on Facebook that the former independent candidate for Batu submitted her application to wing chief Nuridah Mohd Salleh 'Cleopatra said her decision to join PAS was driven by her hopes for her children's future,' the wing said. 'A single mother, she had previously expressed a desire to get to know PAS better and had voiced her willingness to undergo the party's spiritual and ideological 'tarbiyyah',' it added, using the Arabic word that roughly translates to 'training' or 'education'. Nuridah said the wing has long remained committed to championing the welfare of vulnerable groups such as the poor, persons with disabilities, the elderly, single mothers, and orphans. 'Cleopatra's entry into PAS is seen as a strategic move to strengthen women's political engagement in Malaysia and to further the cause of community welfare,' it said. A single mother and entrepreneur, Nur Fathiah also founded women's and community rights group called Hetero Action Women Alliance (Hawa). She ran in the 15th general election in the crowded Batu parliamentary seat in Kuala Lumpur and garnered only 628 votes in the 10-candidate contest. Pakatan Harapan's P. Prabakaran won by a 22,241-vote majority. Earlier last year, she was forced to deny her wedding to deputy inspector-general of police, Tan Sri Mohd Bakri Zinin in Thailand, after a purported marriage certificate went public. She first went under the media spotlight in 2019 after her little-known firm Cleo International Sdn Bhd led a delegation with local e-sports powerhouse Orange E-Sports to meet then youth and sports minister Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman.
