Federal govt not neglecting Kelantan, Zahid says
Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the federal government comes to Kelantan's aid whenever the state is struck by floods. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : Deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has rubbished claims by a PAS leader that the federal government is obstructing development in Kelantan and neglecting the east coast state. Zahid, who is also the rural and regional development minister, said such claims were outlandish. He added that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim would announce allocations for Kelantan each time he visited the state. 'The latest announcements, one of which I heard for myself, included the approval of RM6.6 million to repair a collapsed slope,' he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian. On July 1, the Kelantan government thanked the federal government for approving the sum to repair the collapsed slope near a water treatment plant in Bukit Merah. The slope collapsed on Nov 26 last year, following heavy rain. Zahid said the federal government would also come to Kelantan's aid when floods struck the state. 'So I hope he gets the details from his leadership,' Zahid said, referring to PAS vice-president Amar Nik Abdullah. 'He should not mislead the public,' he added. Amar had said in a Facebook post that Kelantan was the only state that did not have a highway. He also said that the federal government had dragged its feet when it came to executing development projects.

KLANG : PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has downplayed a prominent religious scholar's call for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's administration to remain until the end of its term, describing it as a personal opinion. Tuan Ibrahim said Sheikh Wazir Che Awang Al-Makki Hafizahullah, who is the deputy chairman of Jabhah Pondok Kelantan, was entitled to express his views like anyone else. 'That is his personal opinion. I believe if there's a new prime minister, it might improve the economy. 'We have our own experts who can offer better perspectives,' he told a press conference after officiating the Selangor PAS Youth general assembly at Dewan Mawar Biru Duo in Kapar here today. Earlier, it was reported that Sheikh Wazir had expressed hope the unity government under Anwar would remain until the end of its term. He said a frequent change of government was 'not in line with Islamic values' and could negatively affect the advancement of Islam and the economy. He was believed to be responding to ongoing efforts by certain quarters, particularly the opposition, to topple the government with a major protest rally planned next week. Yesterday, Anwar challenged his critics to table a vote of no-confidence in the Dewan Rakyat if they wished to take over Putrajaya. He called on those who wanted to topple the government to follow the proper process. If they did not have the support in the Dewan Rakyat, he said they must wait for the next general election instead of resorting to street demonstrations or inciting the public. Perikatan Nasional has planned a 'Turun Anwar' mass rally for July 26 in Kuala Lumpur to push for Anwar's resignation. The organisers expect up to 300,000 participants although a similar protest in Shah Alam earlier this month drew just over 300.

FORMER Meru assemblyman Ustaz Mohd Fakhrulrazi Mohd Mokhtar has questioned the opposition's rush to topple Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim through the 'Turun Anwar' campaign and upcoming July 26 rally, suggesting their urgency may be tied to the looming court cases involving several opposition leaders on corruption charges. 'The question that should be asked of those so eager to topple Anwar before the General Election is: why the rush? 'Can they not wait for the democratic process through the GE? Or is it because some are becoming anxious and restless as enforcement agencies begin to uphold the law without fear or favour? 'It is no secret that Anwar's administration has started tracking down corruption and abuse of power that have harmed the nation. Major corruption cases are being reopened. 'The legal process is being allowed to operate freely. Is this what is causing unease among some political players and old elites? They know that if given time, these legal reforms will reach the old networks that have long been untouchable,' he said in a statement. He argued that with only two years left before the 16th General Election, the democratic process should be respected. He also criticised the opposition's attacks on Anwar as baseless, built on manipulated public perceptions rather than evidence, citing labels like 'traitor' and 'pro-Zionist' as irresponsible political tactics. PSM, Muda keep distance from Muhyiddin's opposition Bloc as PAS cites busy schedules
MUDA and the Socialist Party of Malaysia (PSM) have denied joining Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's proposed united opposition bloc, potentially undermining the former Prime Minister's latest effort to bolster his position within PN. Meanwhile, PAS explained that its leaders were occupied with other commitments, giving the impression that an opposition leader's major effort to rally parties was not a priority for them. PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man explained that party leaders could not attend the meeting due to prior commitments in Kedah following Thursday's 'Himpunan Mandat Negarawan' rally. Muda stated it is open to cooperating with any party sharing its principles while PSM clarified it did not assent to joining PN. 'If we talk about differences, every party present has significant differences. But I think there are a few fundamental issues that we are all concerned about. 'These include the rising cost of living affecting the people, the increasing abuse of power, and the reform promises that remain unfulfilled,' Muda's Acting President, Amira Aisya Abd Aziz said in a statement on Saturday. Nevertheless, she stressed that the opposition must remain strong and principled to hold the government accountable. Muda currently has political understandings with PSM and a cooperation agreement under URA with Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang). PSM deputy chairman S. Arutchelvan said his party attended the meeting as part of its policy to engage with any political group but has not decided to join PN or any new coalition. Any coalition decision must be approved by PSM's Congress. On Friday, Muhyiddin held a meeting with 11 opposition party leaders to discuss the proposal to form a cross-party alliance. What Opposition meeting? PAS Youth says unaware of Muhyiddin call, but suggests talks lack weight without Islamist party
KOTA BHARU, July 19 — PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden reportedly said he was not informed of Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's recent meeting with Opposition parties outside the coalition. Free Malaysia Today quoted him suggesting that the party's top leadership may have known about the meeting and expressed support for such engagements to unite the opposition. 'I have no information regarding the meeting. Maybe top leadership is aware of it,' he told reporters after officiating the Kelantan PAS Youth annual general meeting here. 'However, I think it's good to have such a meeting to strengthen the opposition beyond partisan politics. I guess Muhyiddin was playing his role as PN chief.' Despite that, Afnan said the meeting could have carried more weight if PAS leadership had been present and the Islamist party would likely have joined the meeting if they had been invited. 'I'm not sure of the technicalities behind the meeting, but I feel PAS' presence would have strengthened it,' he reportedly said. Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday said he held a meeting with leaders of several opposition parties to discuss forming a coalition focused on national interests. Muhyiddin said the proposed coalition aims to provide a united opposition front and reinforce the check and balance function in and out of Parliament. PN component parties Gerakan and Malaysian Indian People's Party were present — but not PAS. Other parties represented included Muda, Parti Pejuang Tanahair, Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (Putra), People's Progressive Party, Berjasa, United for the Rights of Malaysians Party (Urimai), and Malaysian Advancement Party.
