4 Players Punjab Kings Might Release Before IPL 2026 Auction: Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell And...

photoDetails english 2931838 Updated:Jul 14, 2025, 07:20 PM IST 1. Glenn Maxwell 1 / 7 Glenn Maxwell was bought by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for Rs. 4.2 crore during the IPL mega auction. PBKS had high expectations from him but he had a disappointing season. The 36-year-old Maxwell scored only 48 runs and picked 4 wickets in seven matches of the IPL 2025 before getting ruled out of the tournament due to a broken finger. It's not for the first that Maxwell has disappointed an IPL team with his performance. He has had only a few good seasons in the IPL so far. Given his disappointing performance, PBKS might consider releasing Maxwell to free up funds and buy a more impactful performer during the IPL 2026 auction. Glenn Maxwell's IPL Record 2 / 7 Glenn Maxwell, who has played for multiple franchises, has scored 2819 runs in 141 IPL matches with an average of 23.88 and strike rate of 155.14 so far. He has picked 41 wickets so far. 2. Lockie Ferguson 3 / 7 Lockie Ferguson, the New Zealand pacer was picked by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for Rs. 2 crore at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. He performed decently for Punjab Kings with five wickets in four games, before getting ruled out of the IPL 2025 due to a hamstring injury. More than his performance, Punjab Kings might consider releasing Ferguson due to recurring fitness issues. He has had injury issues in the past as well. So PBKS may look for a more dependable overseas pacer during the IPL 2026 auction. Lockie Ferguson's IPL Record 4 / 7 Lockie Ferguson, who is known for his raw pace, has picked 51 wickets in 49 IPL matches with an average of 30.00 and economy rate of 8.97 so far. 3. Marcus Stoinis 5 / 7 Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis was picked by Punjab Kings for Rs 11 crore during the mega auction. However, he couldn't perform upto the expectations, scoring just 160 runs in 13 matches and took only one wicket. Given his hefty price and below par performance, Punjab Kings might consider releasing Stoinis and buy a more effective all-rounder during the IPL 2026 auction. Marcus Stoinis' IPL Record 6 / 7 Marcus Stoinis, who is known for his ability to hit big sixes in the death overs, has scored 2026 runs in 109 IPL matches with an average of 28.13 and strike rate of 144.71 so far. He has picked 44 wickets as well. 4. Aaron Hardie 7 / 7 Aaron Hardie, the Australian allrounder, was picked by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for INR 1.25 Crore at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction. However, he didn't play a single game during IPL 2025. With several overseas all-rounders already in the squad, PBKS might consider releasing Hardie before the IPL 2026 auction in order to free up funds and an overseas slot.

PBKS star Priyansh Arya speaks on debut IPL, second season of Delhi Premier League

By Vipul Kashyap New Delhi [India], July 6 (ANI): Punjab Kings (PBKS) uncapped Indian batter Priyansh Arya, who was brought for a massive Rs 10.6 crores by Outer Delhi Warriors for the second season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL), hailed the competition as a great platform for youngsters to showcase their skills and opened up on his debut, breakout Indian Premier League (IPL) season with PBKS, who ended the tournament this year as runners-up to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Priyansh spoke to ANI amid the auctions for the second session of the competition. Speaking about his maiden DPL season last year with South Delhi Superstarz and the tournament as a whole, Priyansh told ANI, 'This has been a very good journey for me and it will be a very good journey for the youngsters who are coming this time because DPL is a platform where one can show their skills and the whole of India can see that because when it comes on TV, this is a very good platform.' Speaking on his team missing out on the IPL title this year after a six-run loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Arya said, 'Winners are winners. We could not do it this time, but would try to win it next year.' In 17 matches during his IPL debut, he scored 475 runs at an average of 27.94 with a strike rate of 179.24. He scored a century and two fifties and had the best score of 103. He was the third-highest run-getter for PBKS, and his partnership with Prabhsimran Singh, another uncapped Indian, broke several records and garnered acclaim. Arya, who came into the limelight in the DPL last year, was picked up by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for Rs 3.8 crore in the mega auctions last year. Entering at Rs 30 lakh, he attracted bids from Delhi Capitals and RCB before being picked by PBKS. In the DPL season one, he smashed six sixes in an over during a match and scored 306 runs in 10 matches with two centuries and four fifties, striking at almost 199. Speaking about a potential Indian selection, Arya said that it is not in his hands, but rather in the selectors'. 'So I am concentrating on DPL season two,' he added. Arya had extremely positive memories of his first IPL season, saying that it gave him 'maturity'. 'By working with a coach like Ricky Ponting, captain Shreyas Iyer and senior batter Shashank Singh, my maturity level got higher,' he concluded. (ANI)

Watch: Rishabh Pant sends bat flying and leaves crowd and dressing room in splits

Rishabh Pant proved to be the complete entertainer on Day 4 of the Edgbaston Test as he sent his bat flying and leaving the crowd and the Indian dressing room in splits. The incident occurred in the 34th over as Pant went for a big shot and lost grip of his bat, which went flying. The Indian vice-captain had to go and retrieve the bat as the crowd and the Indian dressing room saw the funny side of things. advertisementThe likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj were shown having a laugh seeing the antics from Pant, who has done this before as well. This happened during this year's IPL during a match between LSG and PBKS in Dharamshala. In that case, Pant lost his wicket but this time around he was saved. Broad asked the viewers to remain seated for the Pant show as said that nothing can be predicted while the Indian vice-captain is batting. "It's chaos. Don't go anywhere. You can't predict what Pant is going to do. Even he doesn't know!" said Broad. Pant survives two major scaresPant had come out with clear intent in the second innings as he was aiming to get quick runs and extend the lead. Pant hit a boundary and a big six off the third and fourth deliveries he faced and continued the onslaught. However, Zak Crawley dropped Pant while he was batting on 10 and it was a straight-forward chance. Right after sending his bat flying, Pant almost lost his wicket as he sent a leading edge towards Chris Woakes, whose diving attempt wasn't good enough. Pant remained unbeaten on 41 by the end of the first session as India's lead went past 350. - EndsMust Watch

Shreyas Iyer's Wholesome Moment With Mother Goes Viral As Test Team Exclusion Sparks Debate

In a world of intense cricketing rivalries and selection debates, a viral moment brought a smile to fans across the globe. Shreyas Iyer, the flamboyant India batter and Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper, was 'clean bowled'—not by a raging fast bowler, but by his own mother during a light-hearted game of cricket in their living room. The heartwarming video, posted by PBKS on X (formerly Twitter), quickly gained traction for its mix of humor, family bonding, and unexpected cricketing drama. — Punjab Kings (@PunjabKingsIPL) June 30, 2025 'Only time SARPANCH won't mind getting bowled! ' read the caption, referencing Iyer's popular PBKS nickname 'Sarpanch.' With his mother confidently delivering a straight one and Iyer's defence breached, the playful cry of 'Out!' echoed through the room. Fans flooded the comment section with praise—not just for Iyer's relaxed demeanor, but for his mother's undeniable bowling flair. Shreyas Iyer: The Cricketer Who Stays Grounded Off the field, Shreyas Iyer has always been known for his deep connection with his family. Whether it's joking around in the kitchen or faking a British accent to prank his father, Iyer's candid family moments often reveal a grounded personality behind the aggressive top-order batter. His parents still proudly drop him at the airport, a rare sight in the high-profile world of Indian cricket. This light-hearted dismissal was another testament to that wholesome bond. But beyond the fun, this viral video comes at a time when discussions about Iyer's international future are heating up. Left Out of India's Test Squad Despite Stellar Form Despite his sensational form in the IPL 2025—where he amassed 604 runs at an eye-popping 175.07 strike rate, including 39 sixes and six half-centuries—Shreyas Iyer's exclusion from the Indian Test squad for the England tour raised several eyebrows. The Mumbai batter also had a strong domestic season. Leading Mumbai to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, a consistent Ranji Trophy campaign, and a standout performance in the Irani Cup, where he notched up 699 runs in nine First-Class matches (including two centuries), should've made a compelling case. Yet, the selectors had other plans. 'Yes, Shreyas Iyer has played well in domestic cricket, but at the moment, there is no room for him on the Test Team,' chief selector Ajit Agarkar stated during the squad announcement in May. For a player once seen as a vital middle-order red-ball option, this exclusion has sparked speculation about his Test future. IPL 2025: A Captain's Redemption Story After a record-breaking ₹26.75 crore acquisition by Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer was under immense pressure to deliver. Not only did he rise to the occasion, but he also led PBKS to their first IPL final in over a decade. Though they fell short against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Iyer's leadership and explosive batting were widely hailed. His resurgence in the T20 arena, following a brief form slump post-2023, marks a significant chapter in his career revival. What's Next for Shreyas Iyer? While the selectors may have looked the other way for the England Tests, Shreyas Iyer remains one of India's most complete white-ball batters and a red-ball contender on standby. His fans remain hopeful that continued consistency across formats will leave the selectors with no choice but to reinstate him. For now, though, Iyer is soaking in the love from his biggest supporters—his family—and cricket fans worldwide, who just witnessed one of the most charming 'clean bowled' moments ever caught on camera.

Shreyas Iyer Gets Clean Bowled By His Own Mother At Home, Sparks Internet Trolling: "Try Bouncer..."

Star India cricketer and Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain Shreyas Iyer shared him having a light-hearted moment with his mother at his own home. Away from international duty at the moment, Shreyas instead played cricket inside his home with his mother bowling to him. He shared a video of him missing a delivery bowled by his mother. Punjab Kings took to social media to share the video, sharing a humorous comment, which was added on to further by fans on the internet. "Only time SARPANCH (leader) wouldn't mind getting bowled," captioned Punjab Kings on their official X handle, referring to Shreyas Iyer missing the delivery bowled by his mother. "Ek bouncer uske baad ek yorker, wicket milega (One bouncer and then a yorker, you'll get a wicket)," said one fan. "Is she available for the second Test match?" said another, referring to the second Test between India and England, starting on July 2. "That second one is in such a perfect spot, you have to appreciate it," commented a third. He is likely to feature next in India's white-ball tour of Bangladesh, beginning on August 17. India assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is "available" for the second Test against England at Edgbaston, but it is yet to be decided whether he would feature in the final XI, considering his limited utilisation for the five-match series. After the conclusion of the series opener, head coach Gautam Gambhir declared that the management would not budge on Bumrah's three-match utilisation. There were recommendations from fans and former cricketers to use Bumrah in all five Tests, but Gambhir quickly turned down the suggestion, claiming they were more concerned about his workload. Numerous reports have suggested that India won't line up without Bumrah for the second Test. Doeschate addressed the concerns about Bumrah and declared that he is "available" but the management is yet to make a call on whether to send him to the on-field action or not. "Yeah, he's available for the game, obviously. We know from the start he's only going to play three out of the five. He's obviously had eight days to recover from the last Test. But given conditions and workload and how we think we can best manage for the next four games, we haven't made a call on that. We're going to see what the other guys are with their workload as well. So technically, yes, he's available. But we haven't made a decision on whether he's going to play or not yet," Doeschate told reporters in a press conference.
