‘Access to safe milk should be considered right not a privilege'
LAHORE: Ramesh Singh Arora, Minister for Minorities & Human Rights, Punjab, has emphasized that access to safe milk should be considered a right, not a privilege. 'Every citizen deserves access to clean, safe, and nutritious milk. Unfortunately, loose milk often contains harmful adulterants like urea, posing serious health risks. Packaged milk, on the other hand, maintains strict quality standards and offers a reliable alternative. The government of Punjab is acutely aware of the province's malnutrition challenges and is committed to ensuring safe milk reaches every household. We also recognize the negative impact of the current taxation on packaged milk and are working to address this as part of our broader health and nutrition agenda.' Romina Khurshid Alam, Minister of State & Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, emphasized the essential role of milk in ensuring nutritional well-being. 'When we talk about health and nutrition, milk stands out as the one element that completes the nutrition cycle. In the fight against malnutrition, a single glass of milk can make a significant difference - it's one of the healthiest, most complete foods we can provide.' They were speaking at recently convened a national seminar in Lahore to commemorate World Milk Day under the theme 'Safe Milk, Safe Nation: Affordable Dairy for a Healthier Nation.' The Pakistan Dairy Association (PDA) hosted the event which brought together senior government officials, industry leaders, and dairy experts to advocate for a national shift toward safer, regulated milk and to explore the strategic role of the formal dairy sector in enhancing public health, food security, and sustainable economic development. 'According to WFP, stunting is costing Pakistan an estimated $6 billion annually. We must learn from global success stories. For example, China launched a school milk program in 2000 and saw measurable improvements in child growth 0.72cm in 7-year-olds and 0.46cm in 9-year-olds. They have successfully tackled malnutrition and micronutrient deficiencies through such initiatives. As Chairman of the PDA, I believe it's time we ask ourselves: what do we need to do differently to achieve the same for our children?' said Usman Zaheer, Chairman – Pakistan Dairy Association and CEO Fauji Foods Ltd. He also expressed his gratitude to key government stakeholders for their ongoing support and emphasized the urgent need to address the country's nutrition crisis through strategic interventions like school milk programs. Dr Shehzad Amin, Chief Executive Officer of Pakistan Dairy Association, opened the seminar by highlighting the central role of dairy in public health and national development. He said, 'World Milk Day is not just a celebration — it is a global moment to acknowledge nature's most complete superfood and its profound impact on nutrition, food security, livelihoods, and economic growth. Initiated by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, this day honours the tireless efforts of millions of dairy farmers while spotlighting the sustainable development opportunities the dairy sector offers. At PDA, our mission is firmly rooted in ensuring that safe, nutritious, and affordable dairy is accessible to every citizen. We believe and advocate that safe milk is not a choice, but a fundamental right of every Pakistani.' Adding to this perspective, Noor Aftab, Director Corporate Affairs – Pakistan & MENA at Tetra Pak, highlighted the importance of innovation in dairy processing and packaging. 'Milk is more than daily nutrition — it's a cornerstone of public health, food resilience, and economic progress. Through advanced technologies and collaborative efforts, we are committed to making safe, affordable dairy accessible to every household in Pakistan,' he noted. The seminar featured in-depth discussions on regulatory reforms, standardization, certification, and enforcement mechanisms necessary to ensure the safety of milk. Key officials, Jahan Ara Wattoo, Vice Chairperson, Punjab Social Protection Authority, Dr Talat Naseer Pasha – DG PAFDA, Amina Rafique, ADG Technical, Punjab Food Authority, and Saqib Ali Ateel, Secretary for Livestock & Dairy Development, shared institutional strategies for quality assurance and public awareness. The role of the private sector in driving innovation and ensuring a consistent supply of safe milk was also a central theme. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

Centre County farmer's market voucher distribution delayed
CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — Centre County Commissioners announced that farmers' market vouchers are being delayed as federal funding continues to undergo reappropriations. The vouchers were originally scheduled for Monday, June 2, but have been delayed until further notice due to the funding delays. The annual summer program known as the Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program is run by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA). In a memo sent by the PDA, the cause of the delay was detailed. Although it was approved in mid-March of 2025, there was little additional guidance or timelines regarding the release of funds. Two consequences of the funding delays have been identified. First, fewer vouchers will beavailable for distribution through each senior agency. In this case, the Centre County Office ofAging will be receiving only about 74% of the vouchers the County requested. Second, voucher deliveries will be delayed. The Centre County Office of Aging was scheduledto begin distributing farmers' market vouchers beginning on Monday, June 2, though the start date has been delayed. As of now, the start of the Farmers' Market Voucher distribution event has been delayeduntil further notice. Centre County residents can tune into the Board of Commissioners onTuesday, June 3, at 10 am for updates on this program. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Kylie Jenner fans in meltdown as she makes risky sex confession about Timothée
Kylie Jenner has given fans an unexpected glimpse into her relationship and sex life with boyfriend Timothée Chalamet with a clever Sex and the City reference After packing on the PDA with boyfriend Timothée Chalamet at Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals, Kylie Jenner dropped a cheeky bombshell about their sex life - and fans are howling. In a playful repost to social media, the 27-year-old reality star shared a scene from Sex and the City where Carrie asks, "And when did we start caring about basketball?" Samantha deadpans back: "Don is obsessed. I don't get laid unless the Knicks win." The timing of the post, right after the Knicks defeated the Pacers 0 didn't go unnoticed. Comments flooded in praising Jenner's sense of humour: 'The fact that Kylie reposted this,' one user wrote, while another declared: 'Kylie reposting this is GOLD, she's so funny!!!!' Another fan joked: 'Timmy has this girl in spin. It's the first time we've seen her actually personality in so long, since the early days of The Kardashians, and it's so nice to see her shine." Someone else gushed: "Timmy and Kylie are my Roman Empire. Literally what an iconic duo." Kylie and Timothée, 29, have reportedly been dating since early 2023, confirming their romance with a cosy appearance at Beyoncé's Renaissance concert. Since then, she's been a steady presence by his side, even showing up throughout awards season as he earned acclaim for his role in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown. Although they've shared plenty of public moments, the couple only made their official red carpet debut this May at the David Di Donatello Awards in Rome. Since then, they have both been bouncing between Kylie's Los Angeles home and New York to support Chalamet's beloved Knicks. Following the recent win, they celebrated with a dinner date, after being seen kissing and laughing courtside at Madison Square Garden. Jenner was even spotted gleefully snapping photos of her boyfriend mid-game. A source recently told Us Weekly that the two are 'practically living together.' The insider added, 'Kylie's really happy and relieved they finally made their debut. It was time, and she wanted to publicly support him and show how proud of him she is.' 'He has been fully integrated into her life,' the source said. 'Everything is going really well.' It comes after Kylie's fans were convinced she eloped with Timothée after she shared snaps of her in a white dress while on vacation. The socialite and the Oscar-nominated actor have been going from strength to strength since they were first linked and last week, Kylie sent the rumour-mill into overdrive. She took to her Instagram page to share a series of snaps taken at the beach at an unknown location as she rocked a tight mesh mini-dress with crochet floral detailing. She completed the stunning look with matching white stockings, a tight, slicked back bun and pearl earrings. Kylie simply captioned the post: "cosmic girl," referring to her new fragrance. Fans momentarily thought she eloped with her boyfriend after seeing the white outfit and rushed to the comment section to share their excitement. One user said: "Legit thought she eloped and this was an iconic wedding dress," while another posted: "Not me zooming in on the left hand." One fan commented: "For a moment I thought she was launching that about her wedding!!" Kylie and Timothee's relaxed approach seems to work well for the couple, who have, until now, kept their relationship out of the spotlight- reserving their public appearances for private parties and low-key outings. However, their radiant Rome appearance marked a turning point for the lovebirds.
