Four uplift schemes of health, P&D sector approved
LAHORE: The PDWP approves four development schemes of health and P&D sector worth over Rs32 billion. In this regard a meeting of the fiscal year 2024–25, the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) held here on Saturday in which four development schemes totalling Rs32,002.252 million were approved. The approved schemes are programme for revamping of 581 BHUs in South Punjab (Phase-I) at an estimated cost of Rs9,932.946 million and programme for revamping of 220 RHCs (Phase-I) (Revised) at an estimated cost of Rs9,990.223 million were approved. Programme for revamping of 552 BHUs in North and Central Punjab (Phase-I) (Revised) at an estimated cost of Rs9,986.627 million and Transformation of Punjab Resource Management & Policy Unit (PRMPU) at an estimated cost of Rs2,092.456 million were also approved. Punjab approves nine road projects worth Rs13.675bn
LAHORE: In a significant step toward enhancing Punjab's road infrastructure, the Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) approved nine major development schemes on Friday with a combined estimated cost of Rs13.675 billion. The decision came during the 81st meeting of the fiscal year 2024–25, chaired by Chairman of the Planning & Development (P&D) Board, Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan. Senior government officials, including Secretary P&D Dr Asif Tufail and Chief Economist Masood Anwar were also in attendance, reflecting the importance of the session. The projects, all focused on the roads sector, span multiple districts and are aimed at improving connectivity, easing traffic flow, and boosting regional development. Among the key initiatives is the dualization of the Lahore-Jaranwala Road from Mandi Faizabad to Mangranwala which carries an estimated cost of over Rs1.163 billion. Another major scheme involves the rehabilitation and improvement of the Sahiwal-Arifwala to Harappa Bypass route via Malan Shah Chowk, allocated more than Rs 1.094 billion. Similarly, the Farooqabad–Safdarabad stretch of the Sheikhupura-Sargodha Road will undergo extensive upgrades at a projected cost of Rs1.511 billion. Further west, work will begin on the Safdarabad-Manawala Road, with over Rs1.178 billion earmarked for its rehabilitation. In Chiniot, authorities approved the restoration of the road from the district boundary to Tahli Adda via Sial More, with a cost projection exceeding Rs1.941 billion. Infrastructure improvements are also set for Sargodha, where the Sahiwal-Shahpur Road will be widened and enhanced at a cost of Rs1.882 billion. In Nankana Sahib, the Sangla Hill–Safdarabad Road will be rehabilitated at a cost of over Rs1.22 billion. Additionally, the road from Tandlianwala (at Jallah Chowk) to Kamalia, passing through Zaffar Chowk and Mamukanjan, is set for rehabilitation with an estimated allocation of Rs1.818 billion. Meanwhile, the dualization of the Taxila–HMC Farooqia Road in Rawalpindi District has also been approved, with a cost of Rs1.864 billion. These projects underscore the Punjab government's commitment to modernizing infrastructure and improving intercity connectivity. PDWP approves three schemes worth Rs16bn
LAHORE: The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) Punjab on Friday approved three development schemes worth Rs 16 billion belonging to health and shrimp farming sectors. The approval was given in the 79th meeting of the fiscal year 2024–25, chaired by Chairman P&D Board Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan. The meeting was attended by Secretary P&D Board Dr. Asif Tufail, Chief Economist Masood Anwar, members of the P&D Board, and other senior officers. The approved schemes, according to a spokesman of the Board, gave a go-ahead to Rs 9 billion community empowerment and expansion of healthcare access through Maryam Nawaz Health Clinic. Tractors are essential for efficient land preparation, sowing, and harvesting, especially in a country where the majority of farmers still rely on traditional farming methods. photo: FILE The Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) in its 13th meeting under the chairmanship of Additional Chief Secretary of the Planning and Development Department Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ikram Ullah Khan has approved 46 development projects worth Rs 54 billion. According to official communique, the forum approved projects for soil fertility mapping in KP, the establishment of a seed industry, and the promotion of climate-smart and mechanized farming methods in the agriculture sector. Additionally, a Tele-Farming and Digital Services Platform was approved to enhance agricultural productivity and livelihood security. In education, key projects included the provision of additional infrastructure and repairs for existing colleges, the functionalization of newly constructed and existing colleges, including transport facilities, and the construction of BS blocks, additional classrooms, and security infrastructure in government colleges. The upgradation of secondary schools, such as GMS Sangarai in District Shangla, was also sanctioned, along with the recruitment of teachers for primary, middle, high, and higher secondary schools in merged districts. Moreover, the establishment of a Girls Cadet College in Dera Ismail Khan was approved. The tourism sector will see the organization of key tourism festivals across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to promote local culture and attract visitors. In healthcare, the revamping of secondary healthcare facilities, the upgradation of emergency units in newly merged districts, and the strengthening of DHQ hospitals, including COVID-19 preparedness, were approved. A new District Headquarters Hospital in Ghaziabad, District Kolai Palas, will also be established. Infrastructure development projects include the upgradation of roads and construction of bridges along irrigation canals in Charsadda, as well as the improvement and rehabilitation of the Pallai Dam Canal System and Tangi Irrigation Scheme. The construction of a distribution system for the Mohmand Dam Canal System and a feasibility study for irrigation projects in DI Khan's CRBC left-over areas were also sanctioned. Furthermore, mining monitoring and surveillance units in mineral-rich areas and the geological mapping of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were approved. In the judicial sector, new Tehsil Judicial Complexes will be established in Balakot, Pattan, and Sarai Naurang to improve the legal infrastructure. The environment and forestry sectors will benefit from the establishment of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regional labs in Abbottabad, Mingora, and D.I. Khan, as well as the introduction of quinoa farming as a new livelihood source in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Rescue and emergency services will be expanded with the extension of Rescue 1122 services at the tehsil level and a feasibility study for the expansion of emergency mine rescue operations. APP
