PETRONAS Gas Berhad Launches ‘TENANG' Mental Health Support Programme For Affected Residents In Putra Heights
KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (Bernama) -- PETRONAS Gas Berhad (PGB) today launched 'TENANG: Healing Hearts, Rebuilding Lives', a dedicated mental health and psychosocial support initiative under its PGBConnects' Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) framework. The programme was developed to assist residents impacted by the April 2025 incident in Putra Heights, particularly those in Taman Putra Harmoni and Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru. Implemented in collaboration with Naluri and Hospital Putrajaya, and supported by Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat (JKM) Selangor, TENANG offers structured, confidential psychological support to over 455 households, addressing emotional needs that may continue long after physical recovery efforts are completed.

Paragon Globe eyes strong growth from industrial, residential segments
PETALING JAYA: Johor-based property developer Paragon Globe Bhd is positioning itself for sustained growth in the industrial and residential sectors, supported by strategic projects and the state's buoyant economic prospects, following a record-breaking financial performance in its recently concluded financial year. For the financial year ended March 31, 2025, Paragon Globe achieved a net profit of RM105.6 million, reversing the previous year's net loss of RM1.2 million. Revenue surged to RM306.3 million from RM51 million the year before, primarily driven by strategic land disposals and robust industrial property sales. Paragon Globe executive chairman Datuk Seri Edwin Tan Pei Seng said the strong performance was largely attributable to a RM337.3 million disposal of 67.6 acres of industrial land at Desa Cemerlang to Bridge Data Centres. 'Apart from strategic land sales, we experienced high demand for industrial developments at Pekan Nenas, significantly contributing to our earnings,' he added. 'Looking ahead, our growth will be underpinned by residential launches such as Calia Residences and The Iconic at Stulang Laut, along with continued industrial projects.' Paragon Globe recently opened its flagship RM10 million PGB Experience Gallery in Johor Bahru, aimed at enhancing customer engagement and centralising sales activities across its diverse project portfolio. Tan highlighted the strategic advantage of Paragon Globe's industrial projects – Desa 27 and Desa 100 – which are ideally located to leverage the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). These projects have attracted prominent multinational tenants, including Hunter Amenities International and Meiban Technologies. Despite global economic uncertainties, Tan expressed optimism about Johor's property sector, buoyed by initiatives such as the JS-SEZ and the Johor-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link. 'PGB remains committed to resilience, diversification, and sustainability, positioning ourselves to adapt swiftly and effectively to market changes,' Tan said. On shareholder returns, he said the company was actively reviewing its capital allocation strategy, including the possible introduction of a structured dividend policy, balancing prudent reinvestments with shareholder rewards. PGB Restores Gas Supply To Key Areas Following Bypass Pipeline Completion
BUSINESS KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 (Bernama) -- PETRONAS Gas Bhd (PGB) has fully restored natural gas supply to Batu Tiga, Shah Alam, and Connaught Bridge following the successful commissioning of its newly constructed bypass pipeline on July 1, 2025. The gas infrastructure and utilities company said the operation was carried out after fulfilling all engineering, operational, and regulatory safety requirements, including the issuance of a permit to operate (PTO) by the Occupational Safety and Health Department (DOSH). 'With natural gas powering between 40 per cent to 50 per cent of Malaysia's electricity, PGB remains focused on ensuring the public feels secure living near this critical infrastructure – a responsibility the company embraces as part of its commitment to safe, reliable energy for all,' it said in a statement today. PGB said as part of its safety-first philosophy, the company has implemented enhanced engineering reinforcements at the bypass section in Putra Heights, including advanced sensors to detect soil and pipe movement, exceeding standard requirements. To ensure long-term stability and structural integrity, sheet piling and engineered support structures were also installed to safeguard the pipeline, ensuring safe, secure, and uninterrupted performance. The company also said a new permanent pipeline is currently being designed with enhanced safety features and will be installed on deep-piled slab foundations, offering greater structural resistance to soil movement and unpredictable ground shifts, given the specific risks in the area due to surrounding development. It noted that the layout will also include new shut-off valves to allow shorter isolation distances in the unlikely event of an emergency. In addition to restoring supply, the company has disbursed more than RM2 million in ex-gratia and humanitarian aid through local authorities, including RM1.38 million in direct assistance to affected families and a RM25 million contribution via the Housing and Local Government Ministry for home reconstruction. PGB also carried out precautionary assessments along other sections of the 2,680-kilometre Peninsular Gas Utilisation (PGU) pipeline to ensure system-wide integrity.

Excavation did not cause Putra Height explosion
SHAH ALAM; The Selangor State Assembly was informed today that the gas pipeline explosion in Putra Heights, Subang Jaya, on April 1 was not caused by excavation works, nor was it the trigger for the resulting blaze. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said investigations by the police, Minerals and Geoscience Department, and the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) confirmed that the groundworks did not impact the gas pipeline. "According to checks with the local authorities, the 4.2-metre monsoon drain construction and the residential development took place around 2008 to 2009, before the establishment of the One-Stop Centre in 2010," he said during a briefing on the Putra Heights incident at the Selangor state assembly today. Amirudin also refuted allegations that the developer had carried out unauthorised construction near the Petronas Gas Berhad (PGB) reserve. He clarified that the company had complied with Petronas' safety conditions and obtained formal approval to proceed with works on March 20, 2025. He also denied claims that the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) had failed to meet the necessary criteria when approving the planning permission for works within the Petronas buffer zone, explaining that while PGB's buffer zone requirement is 60 feet, the approved buffer zone at the Putra Heights site was 66 feet. Earlier, DOSH Petroleum Safety Division director, Husdin Che Amat, was reported as saying that the incident was caused by weak soil conditions beneath the pipeline. He said that while the pipeline met all technical specifications, the investigation revealed that the ground beneath it was weak and failed to provide proper support, leaving a segment of the pipe resting over soft, wet soil. On a separate development, Amirudin said the reconstruction and repair works for the affected homes are ahead of schedule. He said that based on assessments by the Economic Planning Unit, three homes in Taman Putra Harmoni will be rebuilt, while 46 will undergo repairs, and another 46 units are still undergoing final structural inspections. He added that in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, of the 17 homes affected, 11 will be rebuilt and six repaired. He said that as of now, homeowners in Taman Putra Harmoni have submitted repair claims amounting to RM458,440.50, while residents of Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru have filed claims for RM884,934. He reminded residents that they have until Oct 27 to submit all required documents, with MBSJ, which is acting as facilitator. "Following the assessment, the state government will propose to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government to raise the ceiling for repair costs from RM30,000 to RM60,000 to account for roofing tiles and replacement of fittings such as water tanks," he concluded. – BERNAMA
