DTI releases price guide for school supplies ahead of S.Y. 2025
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Friday released the price guide for school supplies in time for the upcoming school year opening in June. The department said prices of some items have been reduced to provide affordable options for parents and students. 'This 2025 price guide covers 195 stock keeping units (SKUs) across 12 product categories. Notably, 29 items have seen decreased prices compared to the previous year, with reductions ranging from PHP 1.00 to PHP 10.00,' the DTI said in a statement. The prices for four SKUs of notebook were cut between P5.00 to P10.00; for 24 SKUs of pad paper, prices have been slashed between P1.00 to P6.00; and a piece of pencil is now cheaper by P5.00. Hence, notebooks are priced from P15.00 to P52.00, pad paper ranges from P15.00 to P48.75, and pencils cost P11.00 to P24.00. Meanwhile, the price of SKUs for ballpens, erasers, and sharpeners remain unchanged. Pens are available from P3.00 to P33.00, sharpeners are priced at P15.00 to P69.00, and erasers remain priced at P4.50 to P20.00. Other school supplies like crayons, in various box sizes, range between P12.00 to P114.00. Rulers can be bought at P16.00 to P39.00. The DTI reminds the public to be careful when purchasing school supplies. Consumers must check the product labels, the number of leaves in notebooks and pad papers, among others. The internship offers an attractive monthly stipend of Rs 20,000 and aims to provide real-world exposure to students in various IT domains. Last day to apply for the internship is June 15, 2025. The internship is part of a bi-annual programme, held in January and July, and is structured to provide students with experience aligned with national e-governance initiatives. The duration is strictly fixed at six months, with no provision for extension. Internship Vacancies The upcoming July 2025 session will offer diverse roles in the tech sector, with a total of 50 internship positions across the following categories: Java / PHP / Python / NodeJS / Dotnet Developer – 6 Posts Product Testing / Security Testing / Software Tester / Quality Analyst – 11 Posts Database Programmer – 6 Posts Business Analyst – 6 Posts Data Engineering & Analytics – 5 Posts Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning / Internet of Things – 5 Posts Educational Qualification: Engineering Graduates or Postgraduates (or equivalent) with at least 75% marks. Year of Passing: Students who passed their qualifying degree in 2024 or 2025, and final-year students graduating in 2026, are eligible. Internship Duration & Mode The internship will begin in July 2025 and run for six months. This is an offline internship, requiring interns to be physically present and adhere to NeGD's daily working hours. Philippine peso advances to strongest since 2023 on dollar, oil
MANILA: The Philippine peso rose to its strongest level in almost two years against the dollar, buoyed by weakness in the US currency and oil prices. The peso gained 0.2% to around 55.17 per dollar on Monday (May 26), the highest since August 2023, as the greenback is weighed down by growing concerns over the US fiscal gap. Low crude oil prices are also benefiting the Philippines, a net fuel importer, and could help narrow its balance-of-payments deficit. "The impressive rally in the peso has been all dollar driven, and is increasingly deviating from domestic fundamentals,' said Wee Khoon Chong, senior Asia Pacific market strategist at BNY. "Key resistance level for the USD/PHP would be 55.41, while the major support level would be the 55.0 round figure.' The country's central bank signaled earlier this month that authorities are unlikely to intervene to curb the peso's appreciation. Investors also received some news of policy continuity on May 23 as President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. retained his economic managers, including Finance Secretary Ralph Recto, amid a Cabinet shakeup. Emerging Asia's trade-dependent currencies such as the ringgit and Taiwan dollar led most regional peers stronger versus the dollar on Monday, driven by bullish trade sentiment after President Donald Trump announced Sunday that he would extend the deadline for the European Union to face 50% tariffs until July 9. Nonetheless, growth concerns remained a headwind for the peso, as the nation's 5.4% economic growth in the first quarter undershot economists' estimates.
