TV technician arrested for molesting minor

Nagpur: A 37-year-old television repair technician, identified as Tanveer Ali Shabir Hussain, has been arrested by Old Kamptee police for allegedly molesting an 11-year-old girl at her residence while fixing her television. According to the complaint filed by the victim's father, the incident took place when Hussain was called to their home in Old Kamptee to repair a faulty television. After dismounting the set and inspecting its components, he listed the parts required for replacement on a piece of paper and handed it to the complainant, instructing him to purchase the items from a shop. While the man left, Hussain allegedly engaged in obscene acts and gestures. The girl later narrated the incident to her mother, who promptly approached the Old Kamptee police station to file a complaint. Following the report, police registered a case against Hussain under Sections 74 and 75 of the BNS and Sections 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. Delhi High Court Allows Family Of Minor Sex Abuse Survivor To Close Case

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court quashed a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act case after the survivor and her family requested the court to close the case as they were seeking a marriage prospect for the girl and now wish to move on. While quashing the case, the court has directed the accused to do community service for a month at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital, while also asking him to pay Rs 50,000 towards "Army Welfare Fund Battle Casualties". The court noted that ordinarily, allegations of this nature, particularly those involving the sexual harassment of a minor, would not merit quashing. The accused, along with another minor boy (recognised as child in conflict with the law), had blackmailed the minor girl with her private pictures, which she had shared with the accused during their relationship in school. The accused, who was her senior in school, had allegedly extorted money from the girl. It was alleged that after the accused shared her pictures with another schoolmate of hers, he (child in conflict with law) hacked her Instagram and uploaded her private pictures on her account. The court noted that the allegations against the accused are serious, involving the harassment of a minor girl through exploitation. "The facts narrated disclose a pattern emblematic of the darker undercurrents of the social media age, where technology is misused to exert control, induce fear, and compromise dignity. Considering this, at the outset, the Court was not inclined to quash the FIR in a perfunctory manner. However, after a detailed and careful interaction with the complainant and her mother, it emerged that they have consciously chosen to move on from the incident," the order read. The high court noted that the survivor's parents said that the complainant is currently exploring matrimonial prospects, and that the pendency of a criminal case may pose as a serious impediment to her future opportunities and personal relationships. "Her mother specifically submitted that ongoing criminal proceedings of this nature are likely to create social stigma and could undermine the family's efforts to secure a suitable match for the complainant," the order read. A bench of Justice Sanjeev Narula quashed the case, stating that, "It is true that while offences under Sections 354, 354C, 384 of the IPC and Section 12 of the POCSO Act are classified as non-compoundable, those under Sections 506 and 509 IPC are compoundable with the permission of the Court, being offences affecting an identifiable individual." "However, the law is equally cognizant of the victim's right to privacy, dignity, and closure. In appropriate cases, the Court, while exercising its inherent powers under Section 528 of the BNSS (earlier Section 482 CrPC), may quash proceedings involving non-compoundable offences where the parties have voluntarily and meaningfully settled the dispute, and where the continuation of the prosecution would serve no useful purpose and would instead prolong trauma," the order read. The FIR was registered for the offences under Sections 354, 354C, 506, 509, 384 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860, and Section 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012. A settlement deed was entered into between the parties, as per which the complainant voluntarily resolved all her disputes with the accused and agreed to give no-objection to the quashing of the FIR. It was recorded that she had neither received any monetary compensation from the accused, nor intended to claim any.

Minister orders probe after POCSO case accused attends school reopening event in Kerala

Kerala Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty has sought an explanation on the participation of an accused in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, in a school Praveshanolsavam (reopening) event in the State capital on Monday. The Minister directed the Thiruvananthapuram Deputy Director of Education to conduct an urgent inquiry into the incident and submit a report. Vlogger Mukesh M. Nair was one of the guests at the Praveshanolsavam held at Fort High School, West Fort, here on Monday morning. School authorities told the media that they or the school had nothing to do with Mukesh M. Nair. They did not know about him or that such a person would attend the Praveshanolsavam. He had been roped in for the event by an organisation that regularly provided school supplies to students of the school in connection with the event. The school headmaster denied that the school had printed any notice with the name or the photograph of the POCSO accused as part of event promotion. 'We use only the banner provided by the government.' The Kovalam police said they were investigating a case registered against Mukesh M. Nair on a complaint about an incident that occurred during the shooting of some reels at a resort at Kovalam. A minor girl had accused him of inappropriate behaviour at the shooting held in February. The complaint was filed in April. Mukesh M. Nair was granted bail in the case by the POCSO court.

The accused has since been remanded to judicial custody. According to the police, the accused, who is the father of a Maulvi, was given a room to stay on the mosque premises by the jamat out of respect. The accused cop was arrested and terminated from service. The Kadaba Police had slapped cases against him under the POCSO Act, 2012 for taking advantage of his official position, raping a minor and for criminal intimidation. A 55-year-old man, who allegedly raped his minor daughter for a year, has been arrested in Karnataka's Gadag district in April, 2025. Chandigarh: Painter found guilty of raping, murdering 8-year-old girl in 2024

Around 16 months after the horrific rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl shocked the city, a special POCSO court has convicted an Uttar Pradesh native, a painter by profession, for the gruesome crime. The court of additional sessions judge Yashika convicted 40-year-old Hira Lal, currently a resident of Hallomajra, under various sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced on Tuesday. Court sources said the prosecution will plead for a stringent punishment for the accused. The child's body, with the throat slit and multiple stab wounds, was discovered near a dumping site in Ram Darbar on January 22, 2024, three days after she went missing on January 19. The autopsy had confirmed rape. The body was found in a semi-naked state and hidden under a pile of garbage, around 600 metres from her house in Hallomajra. During the trial, the prosecution stated that the girl was abducted from near her residence by the accused, who then took her to his accommodation and committed the crime. After the body was found, police identified the accused with the help of CCTV footage which showed him carrying a handbag. His house was raided and found locked. His rented room had been locked since January 19, the same day the child went missing. Police broke the locks and found the slippers of the victim in the house that confirmed that the child was brought there. A chase spanning three states, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, ensued and finally, on the seventh day, police managed to trace him to Nawada, Arrah, in Bihar. The accused was subsequently found to have two wives and five children, the eldest being a 13-year-old daughter. According to police, he was cheating on both his wives, as none of them knew about each other.
