Du Plessis vs. Chimaev PPV
Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) brought us UFC 319 TONIGHT (Sat., August 16, 2025), streaming LIVE on ESPN+ PPV from inside United Center in Chicago, IL. The pay-per-view (PPV) main event was Dricus du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev for Du Plessis' UFC Middleweight championship title. DDP wanted to go 'full speed and see who quits' in this main event. Chimaev claimed he's up to that task, due to his 'different level' cardio (seen in this gruelling video). UFC 319's co-main event was Lerone Murphy vs. Aaron Pico in the Featherweight division. Pico was debuting in the Octagon after a long career with Bellator. Pico recently talked up how he moved Chimaev around in training. Rounding out UFC 319's PPV card was Geoff Neal vs. Carlos Prates, Jared Cannonier vs. Michael Page and Tim Elliott vs. Kai Asakura. UFC 319's 'Prelims' were supposed to be headlined by King Green vs. Diego Ferreira. Unfortunately, Green had to pull out due to injury. The new featured 'Prelim' was Gerald Meerschaert vs. Michal Oleksiejczuk. Other prime fights on the undercard included Edson Barboza vs. Drakkar Klose. You can checkout everything that happened on UFC 319's 'Prelims' undercard right . UFC 319 START TIME AND DATE will deliver LIVE round-by-round, blow-by-blow coverage of the entire UFC 319 fight card below, starting with the ESPN+/Disney+ early '' undercard bouts, which air at 6:30 p.m. ET right here, followed by the late '' on Disney+/ESPN/ESPN+ at 8 p.m. ET. He gets Du Plessis down and Du Plessis scrambles, trying to vault Chimaev off him. He wraps onto Chimaev's neck and concedes the top position to Chimaev. Chimaev gets side control. He gets the crucifix with four minutes remaining in the round. Chimaev peppers shots on the side of Du Plessis' head. They aren't hard shots, but Du Plessis can't do anything about them. He's pressing his face into Chimaev's chest to prevent Chimaev being able to throw anything harder. Du Plessis tries to buck, but he can't move Chimaev. Chimaev gets a little frustrated with not being able to land hard shots. That gives Du Plessis' a little space to get out of the position. He's still stuck in side control, though. Chimaev tries to get full mount, but Du Plessis is able to block him off. Du Plessis continues to try and lock down Chimaev from the bottom to prevent damage. Du Plessis explodes and Chimaev tries to take his back. He misses and Du Plessis has a window to do something, but Chimaev shoots again and gets another takedown. 10-9 Chimaev after one. Not a 10-8, since, despite the control, Chimaev wasn't close to finishing Du Plessis in that round. Round 2: Chimaev shoots early again. He gets on Du Plessis's back against the fence. Chimaev throws knees to the thigh. Du Plessis stands and Chimaev pulls him down again, away from the fence. Du Plessis crawls to the fence. Chimaev throws more knees to the thigh. Chimaev tries to get a hook in, he can't get it easily, so he goes back to kneeing the thighs. Chimaev jumps on a choke attempt, but Du Plessis reacts quickly and fends it off. Chimaev throws more knees and then tries to climb the back. Du Plessis is keeping himself alive, but nothing more than that. 10-9 again for Chimaev. He's up 20-18. Again, positional dominance from Chimaev, but little to no damage. Round 3: Du Plessis throws a left hand, but is then taken down immediately. Chimaev hangs on his back as he stands. Chimaev then takes him down again and gets side control. Chimaev gets the crucifix again. Du Plessis again presses his face into Chimaev's body to prevent much power coming from Chimaev's ground and pound. Chimaev finds a little separation and lands a nice elbow. He's not able to get enough of these to land to encourage a stoppage, though. Du Plessis gets out the crucifix. Chimaev passes to full mount. Then he takes the back. He looks for a choke with 30 seconds left. Another round for Chimaev. He has a commanding 30-27 lead heading into the championships rounds. Round 4: Du Plessis is breathing hard in his corner now. Chimaev shoots and Du Plessis sprawls. He evades that takedown, but Chimaev hunts him down and gets him to the ground again. The crowd boos. And I get it, this hasn't been that exciting of a fight, but it's hard to blame Chimaev for that. Du Plessis stands, but Chimaev maintains the bodylock. Chimaev muscles Du Plessis down again. Du Plessis tries to roll out of trouble and Chimaev squshes him down and gets him in the crucifix again. Du Plessis gets out and gets to his knee. Chimaev knees Du Plessis and Goddard steps in to stand them up. Du Plessis tries to fire off some strikes, but Chimaev just takes him down again. More knees to the thigh. More booing. Another 10-9 for Chimaev. I'm not giving him 10-8s because he's not doing enough damage from these positions. He's up 40-36, though. Round 5: 'I got this' says Du Plessis in his corner. We'll see. Du Plessis leaps forwards with a combo. Chimaev throws a jab and then immediately ducks down for another takedown. He has side control, again. The crowd boos. Chimaev gets the crucifix again. Chimaev goes for an Americana, but Du Plessis resists. He gets to his knees and Chimaev leans on his back. Du Plessis explodes upwards and Chimaev slips over his back, thanks to all the sweat. He lands on his back and Du Plessis jumps on top of him. Du Plessis goes for the guillotine, but the sweat now allows Chimaev to pop his head out and get top position. Goddard stands them up with a minute 20 seconds left on the clock. Du Plessis is exhausted. He comes forwards and lands a combo, though. Chimaev jabs and then shoots. Du Plessis sprawls, though. Chimaev tries to take Du Plessis down again, but he falls and Du Plessis lands on top of him. Du Plessis takes the back with 20 seconds left. There's not enough time for him to do anything. That's 10-9 and 50-45 Chimaev. Official decision: Khamzat Chimaev def. Dricus du Plessis by unanimous decision (50-44, 50-44, 50-44) Round 1: They trade early. Murphy goes down to a knee, it's unclear if that was off a punch. They clinch and Pico puts Murphy on the fence. Murphy escapes out to the side. Pico nails Murphy with a body shot. He's hurt! Pico tries to follow up, Murphy lands an elbow and then slaps on a d'arce. It's really tight, but Pico gets out. As a result, Pico is now on top of Murphy. Murphy manages to stand and separate, though. Pico shoots and gets the takedown. Murphy works to the fence and gets to his feet again, though. Muprhy lands a nice knee as Pico comes in. Pico brushes it off and pushes Murphy into the fence. Murphy manages to get free, though. Pico boxes his way back into the clinch, he lands a body shot and breaks. Murphy throws a front kick, Pico comes forwards and walks right into a spinning back elbow! Pico is out! Two spinning elbows in a row! Official decision: Lerone Murphy def. Aaron Pico by KO (spinning back elbow), round 1 (3:21) Round 1: Neal throws a leg kick and then a high kick. He doesn't land them, though. Prates is being very springy. Neal throws a clubbing left, but Prates covers up. Prates lands a hard leg kick. Prates continues to fire in leg kicks. Neal leans in looking for his jab, but Prates is backing up and circling away to avoid them. He continues with the leg kicks, they may really pay off for him if this fight goes long. Neal lands a left. Prates responds with a one-two. Then Neal comes back with his left again. Prates lands a good body shot and then a knee to the body. Neal's left eye is starting to swell. Prates targets the eye with a spinning kick. Prates lands some hard shots in the last minute, switching between punches and knees. Neal wraps him up. Prates makes fun of him and Neal disengages. Prates then nails him with another punch. Prates spins and cracks Neal with an elbow on the buzzer! Neal goes down just before the bell. What a knockout from Prates. He was cruising in this fight, hitting Neal with all kinds of offense. Official decision: Carlos Prates def. Geoff Neal by KO (spinning back elbow), round 1 (4:59) Round 1: Page takes the center and starts his usual routine of springing up and down with his hands by his side. He does a little wave and wiggle with his right, trying to distract Cannonier. Cannonier stays focused, he steps forwards and looks to land his jab. Page hops himself back to the fence, but Cannonier doesn't rush him there. He lets Page get off this time. The next time he closes distance and goes for a takedown. He pushes Page into the mesh. Page defends with double underhooks. They trade a few knees. Page then slings Cannonier off of him. Cannonier comes forwards with a combo, but hits nothing but air. Page steps in and land a right hand that drops Cannonier! Cannonier gets up and Page tells him 'calm down'. Page continues to taunt Cannonier. He pops him with another jab. Cannonier changes levels and goes for a takedown. Page stops him. Cannonier has him on the fence, but can't land any offense, save a few knees. They separate with ten seconds left and Cannonier whiffs on some punches. Page, thanks to the knockdown, takes the round 10-9. Round 2: Page tags Cannonier with a right hand immediately in the second round. And now he's back to talking to him. He steps in with another right hand. Page lands a two punch combo and then pushes Cannonier off and to the ground. Page stands and waits for Cannonier to get up and come back to him. Page is having all kinds of fun in there. Page leans in, trying to bait Cannonier. Cannonier clinches and pushes him to the fence. Cannonier lands an inside trip to get Page down. Page stands right up, though. That has to be demoralizing for Cannonier. Cannonier clinches again and holds Page in place, but he's not able to get off any punches or elbows in close. Instead they trade a few knees. Page takes that round 10-9 and is leading 20-18. Round 3: Page scores with a few darting attacks and a nice inside leg kick. Page hops in for another combo, but his misses, slips and ends up on the ground with Cannonier on top of him. Cannonier passes into full mount. Cannonier lands two punches and Page scrambles back to half guard. Cannonier lands a big elbow. Cannonier isolates an arm and goes for a kimura. He can't finish that, but he does get mount again. This time Cannonier goes for the arm triangle, but Page defends it. Page looks like he's accepted being on his back for the rest of the fight and is just trying to not get stopped. It's working so far. Cannonier lands another big elbow, but he's not able to string enough of these together to make a difference. Cannonier gets the last round. But MVP wins the fight 29-28 on my scorecard. Official decision: Michael Page def. Jared Cannonier by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28) Round 1: Kai Asakura lands a decent amount of punches, some of which rocked Elliott. Elliott scored a takedown of a half landed high kick and spent some decent time on top. Asakura takes the round 10-9. Round 2: Elliott lands a good left hand over the top. Asakura tries to fire back a combo but comes up short. Elliott is doing a good job of being elusive and preventing Asakura from teeing off. Elliott comes in hard, but eats a counter. Elliott is swaying all over the place trying to keep himself off the center line. He dives in for a takedown, this is almost drunken master style. Asakura is able to stay up this time. Elliott ducks down and gets a big double leg takedown. Elliott is in Asakura's full guard. He postures for a punch and then locks up a mounted guillotine. It's very tight. Elliott cranks it harder. Asakura taps! Official decision: Tim Elliott def. Kai Asakura by submission (mounted guillotine), round 2 (4:39) LIVE! Watch UFC 319 PPV On ESPN+ Here! UFC Tonight: What Time Does The UFC 319 Fight Card Start?
CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - AUGUST 14: (L-R) Opponents Dricus Du Plessis of South Africa and Khamzat Chimaev of Russia face off during the UFC 319 press conference at Radius Chicago on August 14, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois. (Photo by Ed Mulholland/Zuffa LLC) Zuffa LLC The UFC 319 pay-per-view fight card goes down tonight at the United Center in Chicago, IL. The UFC middleweight title is on the line at the top of the event. In the UFC 319 main event, UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis looks to make the third successful defense of his crown when he faces the undefeated Khamzat Chimaev. Meanwhile, in the PPV co-headliner, Aaron Pico makes his UFC debut against the unbeaten Lerone Murphy in a flyweight contest. The UFC 319 PPV fight card streams on ESPN+ following prelims on ESPN and early prelims on UFC Fight Pass. Below, we look at details for the main event and co-main event of UFC 319, the main card bouts and the start time for each portion of the UFC 319 fight card. (Photo by Ed Mulholland/Zuffa LLC) Zuffa LLC Dricus du Plessis (23-2) joined the UFC in October 2020 as a 26-year-old with a 14-2 record. Before he joined the UFC, Du Plessis had won titles with KSW and EFC. He made his debut against Markus Perez on the main card of a UFC Fight Night event in Abu Dhabi. Du Plessis knocked out Perez in the first round. He followed that win with a July 2021 'Performance of the Night' KO win of Trevin Giles. Those two wins earned him a shot against the ranked veteran Brad Tavares. Du Plessis won that scrap via decision. The victory put him in the top 15 of the division. A December 2022 submission win over Darren Till moved Du Plessis to No. 10 in the division. A TKO win over the No. 5 ranked Derek Brunson followed. Du Plessis, who was working his way up the rankings, faced a tough test in his next outing when he met the No. 2 ranked Robert Whittaker at UFC 290. Du Plessis continued his rise, knocking out the former UFC champion in the UFC middleweight title eliminator and earning another 'Performance of the Night' bonus. More important than the bonus was the title shot Du Plessis received for that win. He faced then-champion Sean Strickland in January, taking the title from Strickland in a 'Fight of the Night' bonus-winning scrap In his first title defense Du Plessis picked up an August 2024 submission win over former UFC middleweight champ Israel Adesanya. Du Plessis most recently faced Strickland in a rematch at UFC 312 in early February of this year. Du Plessis won that contest via unanimous decision. I wrote of the champ after that fight, "Dricus du Plessis looked much more controlled and less reckless at UFC 312 than in many of his previous battles. He mixed up his striking techniques and targets against Sean Strickland, landed the more powerful blows, and didn't put himself in too many awkward positions. "Du Plessis did a much better job in his UFC 312 rematch against Strickland in shutting down his foe's offense. In the first fight, Strickland landed 173 of 408 significant strikes. While in the rematch, Strickland was held to 128 landed strikes on 263 attempts. Meanwhile, Du Plessis increased his landed strikes and landing percentage from the first fight to the second. In the first battle, Du Plessis landed 137 of 354 attempts for a landing rate of 38 percent. At UFC 312, the champ landed 147 of 314 attempts for a striking rate of 46 percent. 'Du Plessis has defended the UFC middleweight crown twice while going 9-0 in the UFC. Despite his winning ways, the champ remains a bit of an enigma because his style shouldn't work — but it does.' CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - AUGUST 14: Khamzat Chimaev of Russia is seen on stage during the UFC 319 press conference at Radius Chicago on August 14, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois. (Photo by Ed Mulholland/Zuffa LLC) Zuffa LLC Chimaev (14-0) is the No. 3 fighter in the official UFC middleweight rankings. The 30-year-old made his UFC debut in July 2020 with a second-round submission win over John Phillips. He followed that victory with a first-round TKO over Rhys McKee 10 days later, breaking the UFC record for the quickest turnaround between UFC wins in the modern era. Then, in September, Chimaev knocked out Gerald Meerschaert. Things slowed down for Chimaev after that. He was booked to face Leon Edwards in December 2020, but that matchup never came to be despite multiple attempts to make the fight happen. The reason behind the numerous cancellations of Edwards vs. Chimaev was COVID-19. When Chimaev finally returned to the Octagon in October 2021, he made short work of Li Jingliang, scoring a submission at 3:16 of Round 1. In his next bout, Chimaev went the distance for the first time in his career, picking up a victory over Gilbert Burns. He followed that with a submission over Kevin Holland. A break of more than a year followed that victory. Chimaev's next outing was an October 2023 matchup against Kamaru Usman, a fight that Chimaev won via decision. A year after that, Chimaev made short work of Robert Whittaker, defeating the ex-UFC middleweight champ via submission (face crank) in the first round of their UFC 308 scrap. Chimaev opened as the -190 betting favorite over Du Plessis, who was initially listed as the +155 betting underdog. The betting line has shifted. Today, the challenger is -250, while the champ is +200. Bettors seem split on the UFC 319 main event. Sixty-five percent of the bets are on Du Plessis, while 77 percent of the handle is on Chimaev. CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - AUGUST 14: Dricus Du Plessis of South Africa poses on stage during the UFC 319 press conference at Radius Chicago on August 14, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois. (Photo by Ed Mulholland/Zuffa LLC) Zuffa LLC If Khamzat Chimaev figures out Dricus du Plessis he will be the first UFC fighter to do so. Du Plessis is an anomaly He doesn't have great technical skills, but he doesn't lose under the UFC. On paper he shouldn't be a UFC champion, but he is. As for Chimaev, he too is a fighter that we have questions about. He has good technical grappling skills and is an explosive starter, but he has very questionable cardio. Most of the talk around this fight is that if Du Plessis can survive the first round he should be able to take over with his striking and rack up points for the win, but that's a big if when it comes to someone as aggressive and explosive as Chimaev. The betting pick is for Du Plessis to win a decision or via late knockout. However, a pick for Chimaev to win via early submission is not out of line. CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - AUGUST 14: (L-R) Opponents Lerone Murphy of England and Aaron Pico face off during the UFC 319 press conference at Radius Chicago on August 14, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois. (Photo by Ed Mulholland/Zuffa LLC) Zuffa LLC Lerone Murphy (16-0-1) opened his UFC career with a 2019 draw against Zubaira Tukhugov. Since then, the 34 year old has done nothing but win. Murphy has gone 8-0 with the UFC since that draw, most recently beating former UFC interim title challenger Josh Emmett by decision. Before that April 2025 victory, Murphy picked up wins over Edson Barboza and Dan Ige. Murphy is the No. 6 ranked fighter in the official UFC 145-pound division. Aaron Pico (13-4) joined the UFC as a free agent earlier this year. Pico was with Bellator for his entire MMA career before departing as a free agent. The 28-year-old had an up-and-down run with the promotion, but he enters UFC Abu Dhabi on a three-fight winning streak. His record in his past 10 fights is 9-1. His only loss during that span, which dates back to January 2020, is a October 2022 TKO loss to Jeremy Kennedy in a fighter were the doctor stopped the bout because Pico dislocated his shoulder. When announcing the initial UFC 319 co-main event of Movsar Evloev vs. Pico, UFC CEO Dana White called Pico, 'the guy most people consider to be the top free agent in the world.' White added, 'Aaron Pico is a ridiculously violent striker and a very high-level grappler. Pico has had hype behind him since he was a teenager because of his skill and fighting style, which people compare him to the likes of Justin Gaethje or Dustin Poirier.' The Pico vs. Evloev fight fell apart in mid-July when Evloev was pulled from the card due to illness. Pico opened as a -170 betting favorite over the +140 Murphy. Those odds have held. Murphy has picked up 58 percent of the bets, while Pico has 62 percent of the handle. CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - AUGUST 14: Lerone Murphy of England is seen on stage during the UFC 319 press conference at Radius Chicago on August 14, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois. (Photo by Ed Mulholland/Zuffa LLC) Zuffa LLC Lerone Murphy is a very good striker who manages distance well while being good at target selection, employing better-than-average footwork. Murphy's takedown defense is 52 percent, but he does not accept being on the mat, doing his best to get back to his feet and getting the fight back to where he is at his best, which is striking. Aaron Pico is a very talented wrestler who left the sport to pursue MMA. He signed with Bellator as a teenager in 2014 and spent his entire career with the promotion before entering free agency. As good as his wrestling skills are, Pico is unafraid to mix it up in the striking department, where he has improved a great deal since his first MMA fights. He is very well-rounded and aggressive. Don't let the four losses on Pico's record fool you; three of those came in his first seven fights when he was still learning the sport. His other loss was a TKO injury. What scares me about Pico is his aggression and willingness to get into a firefight on the feet, and that is not the right approach in this fight. I also think Pico will be focused on putting on a show for the UFC and its fans, which is also dangerous against Murphy. Pico has all the skills to win this fight, and he should win, but the pick is to go with the underdog money and a Murphy decision win. One last big PPV? UFC 319's press conference breaks 2025 live viewership record
With UFC nearing an era without pay-per-views, fight fans only have a few high-profile events left before the MMA landscape gets turned upside down. One of the biggest remaining PPV events of 2025 is UFC 319, which goes down tomorrow night (Sat., Aug. 16, 2025) LIVE on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) from inside United Center in Chicago, Illinois. It will feature a main event matchup between UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis and undefeated Chechen standout Khamzat Chimaev, and based on some recent numbers it might be one of the biggest events of the year. On Thursday, du Plessis joined Chimaev and a slew of other UFC fighters on stage for UFC 319's pre-fight press conference. The Chicago fans proved to be a raucous crowd and the fighters certainly fed off the high energy. It was a great turnout and an entertaining press conference that ended with some fierce staredowns. When the dust settled, UFC 319's pre-fight press conference had the most live viewers out of any other UFC press conference this year with 110,000. That's better than UFC 311, UFC 317, and UFC 314. It's quite impressive. Check it out below: While this is proof that fight fans are intrigued by the middleweight title fight between DDP and Chimaev, does it mean they'll shell out the $80 it will cost to watch it live? Let us know if you'll be buying one of the last UFC PPV's this weekend! LIVE! Watch UFC 319 PPV On ESPN+ Here! Following the money: UFC 319 betting line movements tracker
UFC 31 takes place later tonight (Sat., August 16, 2025) inside United Center in Chicago, IL. The pay-per-view (PPV) main event is Dricus du Plessis vs. Khamzat Chimaev for the UFC Middleweight title. Chimaev needed some assistance, but he did make championship weight for his first title fight. UFC 319's co-main event is Lerone Murphy vs. Aaron Pico. Murphy is on a long undefeated run and he's hoping to show the latest Bellator transplant that there are levels to this game. Rounding out the main card is Geoff Neal vs. Carlos Prates, Jared Cannonier vs. Michael Page and Tim Elliott vs. Kai Asakura. UFC 319's 'Prelims' are headlined by Gerald Meerschaert vs. Michal Oleksiejczuk. The undercard also has Jessica Andrade vs. Lupita Godinez, Edson Barboza vs. Drakkar Klose and Bryan Battle vs. Nursulton Ruziboev. I've been watching the lines (see them here) for all the fights on UFC 319 and tracking the changes to see which fighters the betting public are siding with. Below, you'll find all the line movement between Monday and this time of writing (Friday morning). UFC 319 PPV Main Card Line Movement Tracker There has not been much movement on the line for our UFC 319 main event. That's a little surprising, since this line has been out for a very long time. Given that the public have had lots of time to bet on these two fighters, the fact it hasn't changed much reflects how accurate Vegas oddsmakers were when setting this line and reflecting what the public thought about the match-up. Back in April Du Plessis opened at +185 and Chimaev opened at -225. There was a bit of movement on July 1. On that day Du Plessis' underdog line dropped to +144 and Chimaev's favorite line upped to -185. Since that, though, the lines have been steadily moving in the opposite directions with Du Plessis odds slightly lengthening and Chimaev's slightly shortening. That all makes sense to me. This match-up is giving me fits, when it comes to picking a winner. I can see scenarios where either man wins and that seems to be the case for Vegas and the betting public (and commentors on MMA Mania, who have largely said the same thing). This is another example of the odds being a little cautious around Chimaev, despite how dominating he can look inside the cage. He opened as just a -195 favorite to Robert Whittaker (largely due to him being out for a year prior to the fight). The public backed 'Borz', though, and transformed that to -225. Chimaev was actually an underdog when he fought Kamaru Usman. He opened at +170. Again, Vegas was probably taking into account Chimaev's long bouts of inactivity and history of illnesses and injuries. However, the public backed him again and flipped that line to -170. Du Plessis has been an interesting case when it comes to line movement in the last few years. It seems Vegas doesn't have a lot of respect for his championship bona fides. However, the betting public sure does. In his rematch with Sean Strickland, Du Plessis opened as a slight favorite at -130. But the public pushed him to -210. Against Israel Adesanya he opened at +144 and closed at +100. And in the first Strickland fight he opened at +130 and closed at -108. Du Plessis won all those fights, of course, making the public look pretty smart. However, some of Du Plessis support from the betting public might not be from smart money. It might instead be from patriotic money. There's no way to see where the money is coming from in sports betting (at least not that I'm privy to), but it seems like whenever a fighter from a underrepresented country rises up they draw a lot of money. It might be the case that, no matter the match-up, South African betters are going to shorten Du Plessis' odds. Chimaev has a lot of regional support, too. But his boosters aren't likely to be gamblers, due to cultural attitudes in the Arabian Gulf and North Caucasus. In this case, a lot of South African money might be preventing Du Plessis' underdog line from ballooning, since — on paper — he seems like a decent sized underdog to the undefeated Chimaev. No matter what, though, I think we're in for a thrilling fight on Saturday. And if the public (outside of South Africa) are right, we'll be hearing Bruce Buffer say 'And New!' when it's all said and done. Vegas had this fight as a pick 'em early on, with Murphy opening at +105 and Pico opening at -125. However, it seems the public thought there was a lot of value on the longtime Bellator man. Pico has been bet into being a pretty comfortable favorite in this match-up. That's great news for me! Murphy is one of my favorite underdogs on the card (since I'm not that impressed by Pico's resume). The public faded Murphy in his last fight, against Josh Emmett, taking his line from -298 to -278. Those who bet against him were wrong, though, with Murphy taking a unanimous decision. In the past the public had shown more support for him. They turned his line from -170 to -275 in his win over Dan Ige and they turned his line from -142 to -155 against Edson Barboza. Narrow odds are new for Pico. In his last fight, a revenge match with Henry Corales, he opened at -400 and closed at -430. Before that he opened at -800 and closed at -1200 against Pedro Carvalho. He won both those matches handily. Before those he opened at -260 against Jeremy Kennedy but was bet all the way down to -650. He then lost to Kennedy due to a shoulder injury, that was a horrible beat for all those Pico betters! If the Pico betters are right this time, though, he'll start his UFC tenure off with a win. And, if he does get by Murphy, he might be the first Bellator signing since Eddie Alvarez to have a shot at taking home UFC gold. We've seen some decent movement in this bout and it's in favor of 'Hands of Steel' Neal. He opened at +235, but the public think he's got a real puncher's chance against Prates, whose shine was dulled by Ian Machado Garry last time out. The public have been right on Neal lately. He lost to Machado Garry, too, and he did that with a closing line of +235 (after opening at +163). The public were also right to fade him against Shavkat Rakhmonov, turning his line from +350 to +420. And the public were right on Neal's most recent fight, taking his opening line of -170 against Rafael dos Anjos and shrinking it to -245. Neal beat RDA by TKO (injury), but he was well on his way to winning that one by more conventional means. The public have also been right on Prates lately. They faded him against Machado Garry (+110 to +145) and backed him against Neil Magny (-600 to -770) and Li Jingliang (-265 to -320). The public just seem to have a really good feel for these two Welterweight KO artists. If they are on the money again, then this could be a lot closer than Vegas assumed and Neal might even walk away with the big upset. There's not been much movement to speak of here. The public seem fine with Vegas' estimation that Page is a slight favorite over the slightly older Cannonier. Cannonier opened at +150 for this fight and Page was -200. The public were very wrong about Cannonier in his last fight. He opened as the -130 favorite against Gregory Rodrigues. But he closed as the +210 underdog. Cannonier then outlasted and finished Robocop to maintain his relevancy in the Middleweight division. Prior to that, the public was right to fade him against Caio Borralho and Nassourdine Imavov, though Cannonier put forth a very strong effort in both those fights. Page's line dipped down to -225 between July 2 and 26, before creeping back up to where it is now. Just like they were with Cannonier, the public were very wrong with Page's last fight, too. Page opened as the -120 favorite against Shara Magomedov and then closed at +180, before taking a very professional decision over 'Bullet' (or is that 'Pirate'?). The reverse was true when Page fought Ian Machado Garry. Vegas had him as the -155 favorite, but he closed as the +170 underdog before losing a dull decision. Clearly the public are still trying to figure out MVP. Good luck, though, he's made a career on being unpredictable. Elliott opened at +225. On July 26 his line jumped to +245. Then, on August 11, it sank down to +228 before creeping back up to where it is now. The public have been off on Elliott fights. In his last contest, back in 2023, Elliott opened at -180 against Sumudaerji. That line closed at -140 and then Elliott went out and scored the submission win. Strangely, the public backed him when he was a big underdog against Mohammad Mokaev. He opened at +400 there, but closed at +360. He would then lose a decision. Asakura opened at +185 in his debut fight against UFC Flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja. That remains one of the more odd lines I've seen lately. The public bet him out to +200. But, with hindsight being 20-20, Asakura performed in that fight like he was a +500 underdog. Meerschaert opened at +163 and that jumped to +215 on July 26. It then shortened to +181 on August 13 before creeping up to where it is now. I think this shows a lot of uncertainty on the part of the public, which is fair since both these guys feel just as capable of scoring a big finish or being ended by one. In his last fight, a win against Sedriques Dumas, Oleksiejczuk opened at -175 and closed at -180. He opened at +220 and closed at +265 in his loss to Shara Magomedov. The public incorrectly backed Meerschaert in his last fight, changing his opening line of +162 against Brad Tavares to +143. Andrade's line is the biggest mover at UFC 319. She opened at +200, but her veteran savy and name recognition have likely combined to draw a lot of bets. The public fading Godinez has meant her opening line of -275 has shrunk to -149. That's a shame for me, since I feel this is a very good match-up for Godinez. The public were right to fade Andrade in her last two fights. She opened at +200 and closed at +250 against Jasmine Jasudavicius. She opened at +124 and closed at +240 for Natalia Silva. So I'm a little curious where all this love for Andrade is coming from for this fight. The public were right with Godinez lately. She went from -188 to -225 before she beat Julia Polastri and she went from -148 to +122 before she lost to Mackenzie Dern. There's been a decent amount of money coming in against Hernandez for this fight. That makes sense, given the tear that Hooper has been on lately (even if Hernandez himself is on a two fight winning streak). Hooper opened at -278 for this fight. Hernandez was +210. These are shorter odds than Hooper has been used to lately. He was -450 to open against Jim Miller and -700 to open against Clay Guida. His line closed at -770 and -1000 respectively for those fights, which he won pretty comfortbly. Hernandez was incorrectly faded by the public in both his fights with Kurt Holobaugh and Austin Hubbard. If they are wrong again this would be one of the bigger upsets possible on the card. Vegas and the public are mostly in agreement here that an aging Barboza is still slightly better than Klose (who is no spring chicken himself). Barboza was faded by the public in his last three fights, against Lerone Murphy, Sodiq Yussuf and Billy Qurantillo. He only lost to Murphy, in a Fight of the Night effort. Klose's line went up to +135 on August 11 before coming back down. He was faded, hard, against Joel Alvarez. He went from +200 to +425 before getting shellacked by one of the more exciting fighters at Lightweight. UFC 319 Early 'Prelims' Line MovementWe've seen some big movement on this fight. Vegas initially had this as +175 for Ruzioboev and -250 for Battle. However, as you can see, the public thinks this is a much closer fight than that. Some of that public scrutiny for Battle might be due to him moving up in weight class for this fight (and Ruziboev already being very big for Middleweight). I'd preach some caution there, though. Battle has a longer reach than Ruziboev and he's missed weight a bunch at Welterweight, so he's probably a pretty natural Middleweight. The public have been right on Battle lately, backing him to beat both Randy Brown and Kevin Jousset. Ruziboev has been faded by the public since he lost a main event fight to Joaquin Buckley, as a Welterweight. He beat both Dustin Stoltzfus and Eric McConcio, but both times his favorite line lengthened a little during fight week. To get faded against McConico was a little strange, given that McConico was a short notice opponent coming right off the regional scene. This is the opposite story of the Ruziboev vs. Battle line. Vegas thought Silva vs. Barbosa was a pretty close match-up, with Silva opening at -163 and Barbosa (a short notice replacement for JJ Aldrich) opening at +120. However, as you can see, the public are all in on Silva here. This has pushed Barbosa out to being a more moderate sized underdog. The public were wrong to back Silva in her last fight. She opened at -230 against Viviane Araujo and closed at -275 before essentially giving up in the third round and handing Araujo the win. Barbosa got a ton of support last time out. She opened at -450 against Diana Belbita and closed at -1000. She would then go on to submit Belbita. The public were right to fade her, though, when she came in on short notice to fight Miranda Maverick. This line has only been out for a short amount of time, since this is a TUF finale fight. Despite that, though, the public are putting big money down on Idiris. I haven't watched TUF since Tony Ferguson called Chris Leben a 'fatherless bastard', so I'm no expert on this match-up. It seems Morales got through to the final through a bad judging decision. I guess he's going to pay for that on Saturday. This line is also very new. This fight was added to UFC 319 like yesterday. Vegas seem to think Susurkaev, who was on Contender Series a few days ago, is going to walk through Nolan. Who am I to disagree? UFC 319 Biggest Line Movements TLDR: Here are the biggest line movements at UFC 318: Jessica Andrade: From +200 underdog to +121 underdog (-35.7%) (C) Joseph Morales: From +250 underdog to a +348 underdog (+21.9%) (A) Dione Barbosa: From +120 underdog to a +173 underdog (+19.4%) (A) Lupita Godinez: From -275 favorite to a -149 favorite (+18.4) (F) Nursulton Ruziboev: From +175 underdog to a +137 underdog (C) Since I've been tracking line movements on UFC PPVs, a few early trends have started to develop. A: Fighters who opened with plus odds and whose odds have then lengthened are 5-38. B: Fighters who opened with plus odds and whose odds have then shortened, enough to give them minus odds, are 10-10. C: Fighters who opened with plus odds and whose odds have then shortened, yet they remain at plus odds, are 2-6. D: Fighters who opened with minus odds and whose odds have lengthened, enough to give them plus odds, are 6-4. E: Fighters who opened with minus odds and whose odds have shortened are 2-3. F: Fighters who opened with minus odds and whose odds have lengthened, though they remain at minus odds are 1-0. UFC 319 Best Underdogs Bets There are actually a few underdogs I like on this card. Lerone Murphy is my favorite, since I think he's a high calibre UFC Featherweight and Aaron Pico is yet to show he's not just a big fish in a small pond. I also like Jared Cannonier, mostly because he's made me look silly in the past. I think his grinding, in your face, game might give Page some problems. And I also think Dricus du Plessis is worth a punt, too. He's never not shown up in the Octagon. I don't think you can totally rule him out of any fight, even against an undefeated finishing machine. Enough about me, though, which of these underdogs do you like the most? LIVE! Watch UFC 319 PPV On ESPN+ Here!
