Amanah defends Lumadan presence, slams Gagasan Rakyat leader

Hashim BEAUFORT (July 31): Sabah Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) deputy chairman Hashim Daris has strongly criticised recent remarks by Datuk Mazlan Joehari Manan, head of the Lumadan division of Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat), over Amanah's eligibility to contest the Lumadan state seat in the upcoming 17th State Election (PRN17). Hashim, who also heads the Amanah Sipitang division, described Mazlan's statement as politically immature and disconnected from the political realities on the ground, pointing out that Amanah has long-established roots in the area with a growing grassroots base. 'Amanah has been present in the Sipitang parliamentary constituency, which covers both Lumadan and Sindumin, for over five years now. We are not a new or fringe party. Numerous branches have been set up, and our membership continues to grow,' he said in a statement today. He further noted that during the 15th General Election (GE15), Amanah, as part of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, fielded Datuk Lahirul Latigu for the Sipitang parliamentary seat. Lahirul garnered over 2,500 votes in the Lumadan state constituency alone. 'That number alone is proof that Amanah is not a stranger to the voters in Lumadan. The support for us is tangible and cannot be brushed aside,' Hashim stressed. Responding to Mazlan's claim that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) enjoys strong support in Lumadan, Hashim questioned the basis of such an assertion, noting that GRS's influence in the area remains untested at the ballot box. 'Let us not forget that the incumbent Sipitang MP, Datuk Matbali Musa, contested under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) ticket during the last election, not GRS. Everyone understands the political backdrop at that time. So, it is rather presumptuous to claim unproven strength on behalf of GRS,' he said. Hashim also clarified that his remarks were not aimed at stirring conflict among component parties within the unity government, but rather to defend Amanah's dignity, which he felt was being undermined. 'We have no objections if the eventual candidate representing the GRS–PH Plus unity government is not from Amanah. However, let the decision be made wisely, guided by real track records and proven strengths,' he said. He stressed that the selection of candidates for the upcoming state election should be entrusted to the top leadership, including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor. 'We at Amanah Sipitang are fully aware of our capacity. It is not our role at the grassroots to determine candidates. Let us not overstep the leadership. Otherwise, we'll come across as trying too hard to appear clever,' he quipped. Hashim concluded by calling on all parties within the unity government to maintain harmony and avoid issuing divisive statements as the state election draws closer.

BN-PH cooperation not desperation, says Umno

Published on: Tuesday, July 29, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 29, 2025 By: Abbey Junior Text Size: Suhaimi said the collaboration is not a 'political lifeline' for any party but the result of careful discussions aimed at building a stable and inclusive government. Kota Kinabalu: The Barisan Nasional (BN)-Pakatan Harapan (PH) cooperation in Sabah is not a desperate response to any political crisis, but a strategic move to ensure long-term stability for the State, says Libaran MP Datuk Suhaimi Nasir. 'Politics is not about who pats each other on the back today, but about who truly has the capacity to lead Sabah forward,' said Suhaimi, who is also Sabah Umno information Chief. He was responding to Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) Chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor's announcement on Sunday that GRS would be working with PH to face the coming 17th state election (PRN17). Suhaimi said the collaboration is not a 'political lifeline' for any party but the result of careful discussions aimed at building a stable and inclusive government. 'BN Sabah is not a mere complement to any political coalition. We are not a second option. We are a team that is ready to lead this state, equipped with proven experience, solid organisational structure and real capacity,' he said in a statement. He added that the ongoing political negotiations between BN Sabah and PH were part of their election preparations and were not motivated by personal or partisan interests. 'Since the beginning, BN Sabah has consistently emphasised the need to form a government that is truly stable, inclusive and people-focused – not one that depends on temporary arrangements or political manoeuvring,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? GRS accuses paper of unethical reporting

Published on: Tuesday, July 29, 2025 Published on: Tue, Jul 29, 2025 Text Size: GRS Treasurer-General Ardino Diris regretted, Monday, that the peninsula paper's report was based solely on unnamed sources. Kota Kinabalu: The Star has been accused of trying to undermine the ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition by claiming that several component leaders were caught off guard by announcement of an electoral pact with Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the imminent State election. GRS Treasurer-General Ardino Diris regretted, Monday, that the peninsula paper's report was based solely on unnamed sources. 'It is inappropriate and unethical to publish a report based on anonymous sources, as if it reflects the collective position of the coalition. GRS has always practised consultation and discussion in making key decisions, including electoral cooperation,' he said in a statement Monday. He said GRS Chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor's announcement that the cooperation with PH had been discussed was accurate and reflected the reality of internal deliberations within GRS. 'As a mature coalition, GRS would never make a major announcement without going through a strategic discussion process involving the coalition's leadership. 'Therefore, any anonymous personal views do not represent the official stance of the component parties,' he said. He stressed that GRS would not succumb to outside pressure but remain committed to prioritising the interests of the people and political stability in Sabah ahead of the 17th State Election (PRN17). 'We must move as a united team. The strategic cooperation with PH is aimed at ensuring Sabah continues to be governed by a stable, inclusive and progressive government. Division will only harm the people,' he emphasised. On claims that Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (Star), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) and United Sabah Nationa Organisation (Usno) were more inclined to see GRS contest the election solo, Ardino said differing views in politics were normal but all parties remained committed to the spirit of consensus within GRS. 'GRS has never silenced differing opinions. However, once a joint decision is made, all parties respect it and lend their full support for our collective success,' he said. On Sunday, Hajiji, who is also Chief Minister, announced that consensus had been reached between GRS and PH to face PRN17 together, as a move to strengthen the current government bloc which is stable and trusted by the people. GRS, led by Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (Gagasan Rakyat) includes PBS, Star, SAPP, Usno, Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS), Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) and Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (Harapan Rakyat). Meanwhile, Sabah PH comprises Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR), Democratic Action Parti (Dap), United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) and Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah). * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Advice to Youth and Wanita leaders

Published on: Monday, July 28, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 28, 2025 By: Hayati Dzulkifli Text Size: Hajiji (7th right) taking a group photo with the eight leaders of GRS component parties and some 10,000 delegates of Gagasan Rakyat in its AGM on Sunday Kota Kinabalu: Chief Minister Hajiji called on all Gagasan Rakyat machinery from top leadership to the Women's, Youth and Beliawanis (Young Women's) wings down to grassroots to mobilise for PRN17 and win the hearts of voters, especially the youths. 'Work wholeheartedly for our beloved party. Use the time we have to stay close to the people. Listen to their heartbeat, understand their needs, and prove that Gagasan Rakyat is more than just a name. 'The time has come for us to enter this electoral contest with burning spirit and unshakable confidence, to fight for the people's welfare and the future of our beloved Sabah. 'God willing, we will return with a bigger, fresher, more meaningful, and more stylish mandate from the people of Sabah,' he said. Referring to the women wing as the backbone of the party he called on them to continue and intensify their on-going efforts particularly through the Ziarah Sayang Wanita initiative, a highly effective approach in reaching out directly to the people especially the grassroots. 'Our party becomes closer to the hearts of the people — and earns their trust — because of your presence at the very pulse of the community,' he said. He described the party youths as the warriors and protectors of its ideals and drivers of its fighting spirit. They must remain relevant and bold in their strategies, especially through the Gagah Muda (GAHMUDA) platform, which has now become the key avenue for engaging young voters creatively and strategically. 'I call on you to reach out to the 970,000 young voters — they are the voice of the future that we must connect with meaningfully. 'In addition, you must strengthen our party's digital presence. Social media and the digital sphere are the new frontlines of our struggle. We must fully master this space to ensure our message and ideals reach into the minds and hearts of the younger generation,' he said. As for the Young Women's Wing (Beliawanis), Hajiji who described them as the party's vibrant and energetic arm — a reflection of fresh potential – he said the party places great trust in Beliawanis to become agents of change, especially in winning the hearts of the 103,000 first-time voters — a decisive generation casting their votes for the very first time in the upcoming state election. 'Be voices of principle, vision, and readiness to shoulder leadership responsibility,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Enemies will step up slander, lies: Chief Minister

Published on: Monday, July 28, 2025 Published on: Mon, Jul 28, 2025 By: Hayati Dzulkifli Text Size: Hajiji who is also GRS Chairman said this to send a strong and direct response to the many allegations and accusations hurled at GRS and its leaders with PRN17 just around the corner. Kota Kinabalu: Sabahans, including GRS members, have been urged to be vigilant and wary against opposition dirty tactics of deliberately fabricating issues to mislead the public in the lead-up to the 17th State Election (PRN17). CM-cum-Gagasan Rakyat President Datuk Seri Hajiji said these challenges do not stem from a strong opposition or from our own weakness, but rather from the lies, falsehoods, fabricated stories and above all, slander that they must confront. 'PRN17 brings with it a thousand and one challenges, not because the opposition is strong or GRS is weak, but because we are facing a barrage of lies, fabrications, false stories, and above all, slander. 'Nowadays, social media has become the most popular platform for spreading propaganda and misinformation, which the opposition is using to gain political mileage. 'Every day, they concoct false stories, viral misleading videos and fabricated infographics that are widely circulated, pushed by opposition to tarnish the GRS and manipulate public opinion for their political gain. This is how the opposition launches its attacks against us in the digital realm —and we must fight back with everything we've got!' he said. 'Not all the issues being sensationalised are true or credible! Many are concocted and manufactured with the sole intent of deceiving the public into believing them. Such tactics can lead to endless political unrest. 'Spreading slander and falsehood is the hallmark of dirty politics and we strongly condemn it. Let us not fall into the trap of such unscrupulous tactics. 'Not only are they morally and legally wrong, but any party that wins through dirty politics, slander and lies will not stand the test of time because eventually, the truth will be known,' he said. Hajiji who is also GRS Chairman said this to send a strong and direct response to the many allegations and accusations hurled at GRS and its leaders with PRN17 just around the corner. Despite ongoing criticism and attacks aimed at discrediting the government's efforts, Hajiji said GRS' track record of success cannot be denied. 'I know there are those who are jealous of our success. They want to see us fall apart, humiliated, and defeated. That is why they continue to make baseless accusations to deceive the people. They will never stop. They will relentlessly attack and belittle our hard work,' he said. 'Take good care of GRS. This is our home and it's up to us to protect it, because this is where our struggle is anchored,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
